  1. LOL No, I couldn't possibly forget about his .208 batting average. I'm reminded of how awful Pablo is every day, several times a day. Just making an observation.
  2. There was a lot more to my post than just that one line that I marked in bold.
  3. Winning 3 out of 4 in any series is a success. That said, it's hard not to disappointed by last night's loss when Sale pitched such a gem. Have fun at the game tonight!
  4. Ha! Welcome back Cycles. It warms my heart to see you posting again. I'm so glad you're okay.
  5. Guess what our record was after 65 games last season, when we won the division?
  6. I've always been good at math, but calculus kicked my butt when I took it, for reasons that I will not get into here. I absolutely love calculus now. Math Geeks Unite! I think most of us here, myself included, have played sports at a fairly competitive level. I know you get the human element. Every stat geek I've ever read gets the human element. For people to say otherwise is just false information.
  7. He's a question mark, no doubt. Hopefully he gets back soon enough to give the team a good look before the trade deadline. If he can do the job, then our resources would be better served elsewhere.
  8. Here are some stats on outs made on the basepaths. This does not include caught stealing. The Sox lead the pack with 32, which I think we all figured. Of note, however, is that the Yankees and the Astros, the current 2 best run scoring teams in the AL, are right behind us with 31 and 30, respectively. Does having more baserunners lead to more OOB? Does a higher OOB mean that the team is more aggressive? Does this aggressiveness lead to more run scoring? Or maybe there's no connection whatsoever? In terms of the outs made on the basepaths by individual Sox players, here's the breakdown: Beni - 6 Pedroia - 6 Moreland - 4 Hanley - 4 Bogaerts - 3 Vaz - 3 Leon - 2 Betts - 1 JBJ - 1 Marco - 1 Young - 1 Pablo - 0 !!!
  9. In fairness to "Benny Boy", there really wasn't any reason to expect Hanley to not be adequate in left field.
  10. Personally, I'm now a Keith Law fan.
  11. That's the main thing. Whether it's good or bad, it's difficult to make any definitive assessments over such a short period of time. Patience is the key.
  12. LOL Right or wrong, I think you're awesome. We've all been terribly wrong about baseball related topics on more than one occasion.
  13. I actually liked this trade. I had no problem with trading Shaw. That said, there was failure in having a viable Plan B in the event that Pablo could not cut it.
  14. Carson Smith could be that one more solid arm that you're talking about. It sounds like he's very close to returning. And indeed, the pen has done a mighty fine job.
  15. Mookie should be hitting 1st or 4th, IMO. I think ideally he slots into the 4th spot, but I have no problems whatsoever with him leading off.
  16. Well nothing more if he keeps hitting like he has in the last 7 games. Prior to that, he was scuffling. Looks like he's back on track.
  17. Yup, good call. The cliff may not be quite as steep as it was, but it is still looming large.
  18. Also, the Sox reportedly approached Betts with a multi-year deal this past offseason, but Betts declined, saying that he was comfortable going year to year. That may not mean anything for his long term future with the team, but then again, it may.
  19. Maybe, but Betts cannot win a championship by himself.
  20. To piggy back off of something you posted a couple days ago, the Sox are 17-11 when Pablo plays (.607 win %) and 15-10 when he starts (.600 win %). They are 20-17 when Pablo doesn't play (.540 win %). Coincidence? I think not!
  21. I am in full support of all of our players. That does not mean that I won't be critical of them from time to time or that I won't get frustrated with them, but I support them all. Personally, I think we have a really good team.
  22. I feel a S-W-E-E-P! Win!!!
  23. The perception that most people have of stat geeks is very incorrect. Outside of my family and friends, what could possibly bring me more enjoyment than combining my two favorite things, baseball and math.
  24. In other words, stolen bases are overrated. In Henderson's 1982 season, in which he stole 130 bases but was also caught 42 times, his base running was worth a whopping 1.6 runs over the entire season. FTR, I'm a fan of what I've read from Law's book, which is what you've posted.
  25. Of course Farrell knows what he's doing. Much more so than all of the arm chair managers on this board, myself included. That said, Farrell looks good because the bullpen and the team executed and we won the game. If any of the relievers had lost the game, then every move that Farrell made would be under a microscope.
