This is not trying to knock your knowledge of baseball in any way, but don't you think that Farrell and the coaches, who work with him every day and are in the dugout with him, can tell better than any of us whether Price is done or not?

FTR, I was surprised that Price came back out too, but Farrell had a reasonable explanation for bringing him back out, and going batter by batter. The next Astros batter, Marisnick, has pretty extreme reverse splits. He has a .300/.386/.720/1.106 slash line with seven homers and 13 RBIs against righties and a .209/.277/.326/.602 slash line with no homers (until last night) against lefties. I'm not saying that leaving Price in was the right call, but he is not making his decisions as blindly as some seem to think he is.

The most noticeable thing is his 600 pitching changes one his starter leaves the game. What irks me the most about those is that he could have a situation where his team is down by 7 runs in the top of the 9th with 2 outs and no one on base, and he'll make a pitching change. I don't remember the exact situation, but he also did something similar with challenging a call when the game was pretty much out of hand. And it wasn't an obvious wrong call. I also think that he micromanages with the positioning of his players on the field. I've read that he adjusts his pitching according to what umpire will be behind the plate. There are other things that I've read about that go on in the clubhouse more so than on the field.

The team is not in a dire situation right now in terms of playoff standings. While I'm sure Dombrowski is kicking the tires on every possibility, he doesn't have to act rashly. He can let the Panda issue play out a little longer.

DRA - Deserved Run Average - It's the way to go. It takes into account, for both the starter and the reliever, how many inherited runners were allowed to score.

Although Pablo has performed poorly, he has not been the problem. As you said, he has played very little, and the team has a better winning % when he plays than when he doesn't. Also, adding a bat at 3B is not going to solve any offensive problems if the rest of the offense continues to sputter like it has been. As I see it, the fix for this offense is to get the guys already on the team to start performing up to expectations.

Good point about most teams not running on all cylinders at the same time. The offense has been extremely frustrating, but I also am not concerned about them yet. We need to hope Price and Porcello can get their acts together.

I would agree that the offense has underperformed its talent level. It's a good thing, I guess, when the team can underperform and still be winning enough games to be right in the thick of things. I posted elsewhere that we have not been firing on all cylinders while the Yankees have been, and yet we're tied. If the offense starts clicking like I think they're capable of, look out.

You make fair points Oldtimer. The offense does appear to need some type of spark, but you would think that with the youngsters already on the team, the spark would be there.

I highly doubt that anyone is keeping Pablo on the team out of niceness. At the moment, they have no other options. I think Devers will likely be called up a little later, but I think the FO will try to exhaust all other realistic trade options first. The problem is, not a lot of trades happen in the 3rd week of June.

That was another stressful and nerve wracking game, but also very enjoyable. Awesome throws by Beni and Vazquez to get big outs. Winning 2 of 3 from Houston on the road - can't complain about that.

In terms of W-L record, it was terrible. But you lost 6 games by a total of 9 runs. Your team is underperforming its Pythagorean W-L by 5 games. Your record in one run games is 7-12, but your record in blowout games is 19-2. Much to my dismay, all of that points to a team that is playing well and has been a bit unlucky.

Another fine post with which I agree. I never followed LaRussa closely enough to have an opinion on him, but I always felt like Maddon, Showalter, and Scoscia are the trifecta of the self-important micro managers. IMO, teams are usually better off if the manager just lets the players play.

Excellent points made. We all think we know what the correct decision should be, but there is much more that goes into the decision that we are unaware of, including information that we are not privy to. Also, just because a decision fails, that does not mean that it was the wrong decision.

Issues can always develop for any team. I think our offense has been largely underperforming, yet the team is in very good shape in the standings. Hopefully, the offense gets their heads out of their butts soon. I really don't think it's a lack of talent.

The Yankees being in a skid of course helps, but we still need to win our games while they're skidding. We've been able to make up ground because we are winning. Does it matter how we're winning? As for being puzzled and concerned about our run scoring issues, I am puzzled but I am not yet concerned.

Frustration over the lack of hitting? Yes. Concern over the lack of hitting? No. I still believe that the talent is there. For whatever reason, they all tend to go into these funks at the same time. Of course adding another bat would help, but more importantly, we need the bats that we have to perform up to their talent levels.

Sam Travis is a good possibility if Hanley continues to deal with injury. Also, I appreciate your well thought out posts about Sandoval.

I'm a big Cameron fan, and as I posted elsewhere, he makes a strong case against Pablo. That said, it's hard to know what Pablo can provide this year with the sporadic playing time he's been given. It's difficult for even the best players to play their best if they're only playing 1-2 games a week. No one expects Pablo to become an MVP. But could he provide more production than Rutledge or Marerro? I think it's quite possible. At any rate, I don't think Pablo will get much playing time anymore, and I think he'll be gone as soon as the Sox can get a viable replacement. Getting a legitimate starting 3B in mid June is easier said than done.

I don't think you all need to worry about Sandoval. IMO, Rutledge will get the bulk of the playing time at 3B. Farrell and the FO have more or less already sent the message that they've given up on Pablo. He will remain mostly on the bench (in case of injury to Rutledge) until the FO finds a replacement. IMO, we'll see Devers sooner than we and the FO expected.
