  1. Calling him up has indeed been the right move. And a good one.
  2. Because we really didn't have the need to add bats. Also, keep in mind that the window is not just this year. The window is open for another 2, possibly 3 years. Resetting the cap versus not has huge implications for the next 2 years.
  3. Ben gets too much blame for those last place finishes. He did his job. He built a contender each of those years. The team did not get it done.
  4. It might be a matter of semantics, but I don't think it's nonsense. Dombrowski was probably not forbidden to trade the top prospects, but was probably given a strong directive not to do it unless there was an offer that they just couldn't pass up. In other words, don't do it.
  5. We can love Sale and Kimbrel all we want. That's not the point.
  6. I agree that there seems to be a larger than average number of mental lapses on this team. I'm not sure where the blame falls for that, but I think it's fair to question the manager/coaches.
  7. Mitch Moreland regressing after his hot start should not have surprised anyone, but I also don't think he should have been as bad as we've seen most of July.
  8. Exactly what I was trying to say. I think that we could have entered the crap shoot without going for broke and limiting ourselves to a 3 year window.
  9. The playoffs being a crap shoot is one of the biggest reasons why I'm so against the 'win now at any cost' philosophy. I have never tossed that idea out the window. Going all out to win guarantees nothing, and because of that, I don't think an approach like Dombrowski's is justified or worth it at the expense of the long term. If it turns out that we win a World Series (or 3), then in hindsight, the moves will have been justified.
  10. It does seem like we should take at least 3 of 4, if not sweep these guys, but the Indian series reminded us in more ways than one that we can never assume anything. The team cannot take this series lightly. One game at a time.
  11. The sheer numbers in an extremely short period of time.
  12. LOL, well considering the series against the Guardians, maybe Farrell is on to something.
  13. There are some drawbacks to calling a player up and having him fail. One is the time clock/options thing, which most people don't seem to care about, but it should factor into a decision. The other is that it could delay the player's development. I don't think it will 'ruin' a player, but I do believe it could delay development.
  14. Short sample, but things are again looking up!
  15. If I read correctly this morning, our pitchers are all being pushed back a day in their starts. Subsequently, if the rotation then stays on turn, Sale will not pitch against the Yankees in our next series with them. Memo to Farrell: Fix this!
  16. LOL I have to admit that there are times when this team has made it very difficult to remain positive.
  17. What are you even talking about?
  18. I have high expectations.
  19. Are we opposed to having Travis as our 1B for next year?
  20. The Dodgers look tough. They also have the best run differential in baseball.
  21. Kelly is expected to be activated on Friday. I'm not holding my breath on Smith, but wouldn't it be nice if he can be the guy for the stretch run that we thought we were getting.
  22. One thing I remember being said about Alex Cora when he played for us is that he never made a mental error. This stuck with me because it was very true, at least as far as I know. You can live with guys making an error now and then, or with guys being aggressive and getting thrown out on the bases if it's a close call, but the bonehead plays due to lack of focus or whatever are a different story. Especially if it happens frequently.
  23. I think that notion has been debunked too, but it does seem to happen a lot. Maybe it's becoming a self fulfilling prophecy.
  24. LOL Jacko. I thought I read that the Yankees were having second thoughts on sending Frazier down . I bet they find a way not to.
