The Sox do have the most OOBs, but that number in and of itself can be misleading. That would be like saying Player A has 50 stolen bases, but not considering that he also got caught 50 times. Look at the last column of that chart, XBT%. The Sox have the 4th best % of extra bases taken. IMO, that's a better measurement of how 'idiotic' the base running is or isn't. I've said before that they may have the most outs, but that's because they take more chances. And while more chances leads to more outs, it also leads to more successful bases taken. The Sox are still at a +1.6 in UBR and +1.3 in stolen base runs, so overall, the aggressive baserunning has helped the team. Yes, there are times when they make a bad base running blunder. But their success rate is better than most other teams.

Pablo and Crawford were bad deals to begin with, but yes, the team was unlucky with both players in that they did not live up to their contracts in the early years, much less make it to the latter years. Neither one of them should have been as bad as they turned out. I've never had a problem with Hanley's contract and still don't.

I am more than fine with Vaz and Leon as our catchers. Defense first. Our line up should be able to carry a 'weak' bat in the 8 or 9 hole.

Dombrowski is a smart baseball man. I have never denied that. I don't like his aggressive win now philosophy, as I have always considered a strong farm system to be the top priority. For me, the issue is not in who he traded away, and the idea that they would have been blocked here anyway, or that they may never pan out. They are still valuable trade chips. The issue for me is the magnitude of the prospects traded and not getting full value in return.

This is a different situation than a coach signaling whether run through versus slide head first.

Because on a bang bang play like that, hitters should already know this. Now if the infielder muffs the ball and it goes into left field and the runner can't see that, then the 1B coach should absolutely be signaling the runner to run to second.

The other thing that stats show is that adding a good hitter to an already good line up has more of an impact than adding a good hitter to a weak line up. No, it doesn't make the other hitters better, but it has a somewhat exponential effect. There are theories that if a team is a strong hitting team with weak pitching, the team may get a larger upgrade by adding another good hitter than it would be adding a good pitcher.

Well, I give him credit for putting together a very strong team for the immediate future. There are times that I think this FO makes some rash moves, however. Some have worked out, some have not.

They sure have. If the Sox can win a World Series (or 3) during our 'window', then I will deem it all a success.

Go figure. Maybe that's the problem with our offense. Our pitchers have been too good and our offense thinks they can coast.

It probably is a myth. LOL That said, I do believe that there are things that can spark a team. I may be completely wrong about that though. What the addition of Devers and Nunez does provide is a lengthening of the line up.

I have had no problems with Gomes in the booth. I like the guy. I have had to listen to so many other teams' annoying announcers that I welcome the NESN broadcast whenever I get it.

All batters go through slumps. It's to be expected. Usually, when a player or two have slumps, there are other players who are having hot streaks to pick them up. For whatever reason, our players all seemed to slump for most of the month of July. Hopefully, they have turned the corner offensively.

Good sign in last night's game, not only in his 2 big hits, but the fact that one was to left and the other was to right-center.

The good news is, Bauer is hittable. Or at least he should be. Then again, I called a pitcher's duel for last night's game, so what do I know? LOL A sweep tonight would be lovely. Go Sox!!!

Here's the thing. Are the other 29 1B coaches yelling at their players to run through first base? There are things that are not a 1B coach's job for good reason.

It is amazing what Devers and Nunez have done in this short time. We can't expect them to keep it up, obviously, but it does appear that they've provided the spark that our offense needed.

Ben had a 5 year plan. He was trying to build a farm system, which he did very well, while trying to remain competitive, which worked brilliantly in 2013, but not so much in the other 3 years. Those signings are the exact types of signings that a GM should be making. They are short term, '2nd tier' signings that won't cripple the team if they don't work out, but where the upside can lead you to a championship. The philosophy is sound. Therein lies the 'brilliance'. Yes, he made some costly mistakes as well.

Another good point about Wins having more validity back in the day. I wonder if MLB would ever change their scoring rules regarding Wins. Or do away with the stat altogether. I doubt it, but they should.
