  1. Just to give some props to our boy Mookie: Buster Olney 13m Mookie Betts has 30 Defensive Runs Saved. Next closest right fielder has 6; next closest at any position has 19 He is the player that would be my top priority to extend, but even with that being the case, I would not give him a 10 year deal.
  2. They have gotten it done so far. It's really hard to sweep any team in a 4 game series, no matter how bad they are, so I really could not complain about winning 3 of 4. Going into the series, that was my hope. Having said that, now that we've won the first 3, I expect a sweep. I won't settle for less!
  3. Broadcasters, players, coaches, etc. also believe that fastballs rise. I don't know how many times Eck talked about rising fastballs in the last 2 telecasts. Just because they talk about things as if they actually exist does not mean that they do.
  4. Pitchers will pitch batters differently. The overall net effect to that batter is insignificant however. Bonds being walked, which means he is not making an out, has huge value to Bonds in and of itself. It's not as flashy at the home runs he may hit if he were pitched to, but they are far better than the outs that he would also make if he were pitched to.
  5. Any way you slice it up, batting orders just don't matter that much.
  6. I would much rather have a strong pitching staff and a mediocre to good offense than the other way around. But I think this shows that you can win both ways.
  7. It is nice to see some more home runs being hit.
  8. Managers are still extremely traditional in their line up constructions. The #2 spot is the most underrated and misused spot in the line up. There are signs that this has been changing, but change is slow.
  9. Fister and the Red Sox for the 4 game sweep! Get it done boys!
  10. Great job by Pomeranz. He has been coming up huge! Thanks Dave!
  11. I wish Pablo the best. Unless he plays against us, I hope he does well.
  12. It sounds interesting Bell. I hope you'll let us know when it gets published.
  13. Cashman has been very Theo like.
  14. I believe you were one of the first to declare that you really liked the Nunez trade, before he even played a game for us. Good call. I like what Dombrowski did at the deadline.
  15. Yeah, Gray did pitch well. My post was not specifically in regards to the Gray trade, but just in general.
  16. I don't follow the minors as closely as some of you, but I have read that we should should sell high on Chavis.
  17. I respectfully disagree, and I'll leave it at that.
  18. The number of runs is not as important as the run differential. A team can afford to score fewer runs if they have a pitching staff that allows fewer runs.
  19. I don't think you can really read much into the results one way or another.
  20. I would much rather see him pitch against the Rays. I think our offense has a better chance of scoring against the White Sox than they have against the Rays.
  21. I wish Pablo the best.
  22. The thing for the team is to take it one game at a time and not get ahead of themselves. They can't be looking ahead to the Rays and the Yankees and take the White Sox for granted. Yeah, I agree. We have a couple of off days coming up. Go for the sweep.
  23. To be fair (to me), I think I gave a 're-tooled his swing' argument, but I also made it very clear that he would not be able to maintain his 2016 production. I knew that Leon would not repeat 2016, but I thought with the 're-tooled' swing, he would be much better than 2015, which he is. On a related note, I hesitate to even bring up Devers' and Nunez' BABIPs.
  24. Good for you. I give you and all the other writers all the praise in the world. I hate writing. I absolutely hated writing papers in English class, and I still hate writing recommendations, reports, etc. Hate it! Dread it! LOL What kind of book is it?
  25. The contracts have gotten out of hand. If we are going to give a player a huge contract, I'd rather give it to someone like Mookie, rather than to a free agent who's never played here before. Ideally, we'd be able to lock them up before they hit FA at a bit of a team discount, and for fewer years. A 10 year contract is insane. Even 7 or 8 years is crazy.
