  1. The enigma to me is why their slugging % is so low. I understand that we don't have a team full of Ortizes, but these guys can slug better than they have been. They can hit more homeruns than they have been. It's odd that it's a team wide epidemic. Hanley, Betts, and Bogaerts look absolutely pathetic right now. Betts usually takes the first pitch, and it's often a fastball right down Broadway. Last night, he finally decided to swing at a first pitch, and it was a breaking ball that was nowhere near the strike zone. It's hard to believe that he is being fooled that badly.
  2. I am surprised that they won't make room on the 40 man for Brentz. I don't think he will be anything special, but he certainly couldn't hurt and he certainly deserves the chance. It's too bad for him.
  3. Well, I didn't think we'd drop off by over 100 runs, so the number sounds about right to me, considering the underperformances.
  4. We need a team full of Pedroias and his grit.
  5. The Sox have 3 off days coming up this month. If they simply stay on rotation, Sale will get his extra rest.
  6. There are many sexist views and comments on this board. You guys can deny it all you want, but they are clear as day to a woman. The worst part about it is that they are glossed over and accepted. In many cases, you don't even realize you're being sexist. Why? Because you're all men. Shame on you. The recent posts in this thread sure do explain a lot.
  7. For the remainder of this season, I think Swihart's primary role will be to serve as a #3 catcher in case of emergency so that Farrell will have more flexibility in pinch hitting or pinch running for his catchers. For next year he needs to get fully healthy first and the FO needs to make up its mind as to what Swihart's role will be. My guess is that his days of being primarily a catcher are over with. I agree that he could provide some value to the team as a utility type who can catch in a pinch if needed.
  8. Farrell has the B line up going tonight: Nuñez 3B Betts RF Benintendi CF Ramirez DH Travis 1B Bogaerts SS Young LF Vazquez C Marrero 2B
  9. The hitting truly has been a puzzle and a disappointment for me. Like you, I figured there would be a drop off, but that the team would still be one of the top offenses in the league. That said, we are on pace to score 767 runs, which would put us at #3 in the AL last year. That's still more of a drop than I expected, but our middle of the pack status is due more to other teams scoring more runs this year.
  10. Pedroia's 1st pitch swing % is 15.2%. Out of the regular players, Bogaerts and Betts have lower percentages, at 11.0% and 11.5%, respectively. For some reference, the team average is 20.3% and the league average is 28.1%.
  11. There is a reason that I tend to stay out of game threads during the games.
  12. So, the vibe I'm getting here is that a woman can't possibly know as much about baseball as a man because women do not play baseball. Bogus.
  13. And isn't today still officially the Labor Day Weekend? The MLB offices now miraculously decide to open? Bogus.
  14. Very good point about Farrell trying to get Sale an extra day of rest here and there earlier in the season. We have a few off days coming up this month, so maybe the extra day between starts will do Sale a bit of good. The word on Price has been very encouraging. Maybe he can get back and make a few starts to give Sale some more days off.
  15. I think once again too much is being made of one series. Yes, we've had an inconsistent offense all year. Despite that, we have a 3 1/2 game lead or the division, a +81 run differential, and we are one game better than we were after 137 games last year, despite the drop in offense. I do not consider the division as being wrapped up by any means, but I like our chances better than I like the Yankees. The realistic view is that we are very likely headed for the playoffs. Once there, anything can happen.
  16. Thanks for the correction.
  17. This is a post that I can get on board with!
  18. Boone is a big time Yankee homer.
  19. Not saying that it would have made any difference in the outcome, but there are 3 things about this series that just didn't sit right with me: 1. The biased umpiring, including the NY based review team that overturned a call in the Yankees favor when there was no conclusive evidence to do so. 2. MLB conveniently not giving their decisions on Sanchez' and Romine's suspension appeals until after this series. 3. MLB or ESPN changing the starting time of last night's game to accommodate the Yankees' travel schedule. The Sox were denied a similar request a few years ago.
  20. I am of no use during the game. I'm still pretty ticked off the morning after. That said, whose position would you rather be in? The Yankees, who just took 3 out of 4, but are still fighting an uphill battle against a 3 1/2 game Red Sox lead, or the Red Sox, who just lost 3 of 4, but are still in the driver's seat? Losing always stinks, especially to 'those guys', but it's not all bad. I'm still driving the Playoff Party Bus through October!
  21. As I posted before, I'm wondering what has happened to the concept of protecting the plate? Or are our hitters being fooled so badly that they can't pull the trigger?
  22. O!M!G! This post is so wrong on so many levels.
  23. Sadly, rather than slamming the door on the Yankees when they had the chance the last 3 series, the Sox have opened the door and let them right back in. This series stunk, big time.
  24. Very true. But that's okay if the great outweighs the boneheadedness.
  25. Ha. If Price had only stayed healthy.... LOL FTR, I did not like the Kimbrel deal either.
