    There is no grief and no argument whatsoever about how great a job Dombrowski has done for the present. It's the impending cliff that some of us have a problem with.

    From a stats point of view, because I know how much you love them, Devers' range is fine (+1.4). His negative defensive ratings come from his errors (-4) and from turning double plays (-0.5). I completely agree that he will become a solid 3rd baseman.

    I'm not saying that Lucchino purposely drove Theo away or that he wanted Theo gone, but I do believe that his strong arm in baseball ops decisions led Theo to leaving. It was the root behind the gorilla suit fiasco.

    He probably knows more than we give him credit for, but his main goal was to make money. That can be a bad thing from a baseball ops point of view.

    To be fair, as much as Lucchino knows about baseball, his main purpose behind baseball moves was putting fans in the seats. The way a baseball ops persons builds a team (to get the most wins) is different than the way a businessman builds a team (to make the most money). Sometimes, those two ideas are not mutually exclusive, but many times they do not mesh. The moves that I blame Lucchino for are the types of 'splashy' or 'sexy' moves that just do not make any sense from a baseball ops point of view, especially one that is advanced metrics oriented. Pablo is Exhibit A.

    Why are the Yankees going to be good for several years? They have a strong farm system. I am so opposed to any GM depleting a farm system in an all out effort to 'win now'. It irks me even more when a GM depletes a farm system that he didn't build. IMO, Dombrowski did not have to go to the extremes that he did, and the team would still be competitive now. That's my only beef with Dombrowski.

    And the Sox don't have to play the Sox, the best team in the division.

    I go back and forth about whether I want to face the Yankees in the ALCS. Beating them in the ALCS would be the sweetest kind of victory possible. OTOH, losing to them would be the toughest kind of heartbreak to deal with. Honestly, I would prefer that they are nowhere near the playoffs. With that not being a option this year, I hope they are eliminated in the WC game.

    You have a fair point Harmony. In terms of the top two teams, no other division rivals the AL East. Not even close. I think that's where most of the disagreement with you stems from. In terms of the bottom 3 teams, it is fair to say that the AL West is stronger than the AL East. To add to the strength of remaining schedule that I posted elsewhere, the Ms have a tougher schedule (.515) than either the Sox (.501) or the lucky Yankees (.475).

    This is absolutely correct. My hope is that the As mount a serious charge and make the Ms work for it.

    LOL I, too, was of the opinion that Cora should have pulled Porcello at that point, but what do I know? Porcello worked his way out of it and ended up having a pretty good pitching line. Kudos to Cora and Porcello for knowing what they're doing.

    There are certain games where the opponent takes the lead, and I don't have much confidence that the Sox can come back. This wasn't one of them. I kind of feel sorry for the Royals, as I did for the Nats when we were whooping up on them. LOL

    Ten of his errors are fielding and 8 are throwing. More importantly, Devers is now at -9 in defensive runs saved and -4.5 in UZR/150. The good news is, Devers has good range.

    In terms of the strength of remaining schedule, Baseball Prospectus has the Sox strength at .501 (.500 being average) and the Yankees at .475. For reference, the weakest strength of schedule belongs to Cleveland at .468. The Yankees have the 2nd weakest, reinforcing my claim that the Yankees are the luckiest team ever. The Strongest remaining schedule belongs to Baltimore at .532.
