  1. Here are the pitching match ups for the series: Thursday...7pm....CC 6-4/ 3.53 vs Johnson 1-3/ 3.45 Friday.....7pm....Severino 14-4/ 2.94 vs Porcello 13-4/ 4.03 Saturday...4pm....Happ (perhaps) 11-6/ 4.05 vs Eovaldi 4-4/ 3.80 Sunday....8pm...Tanaka 9-2/ 3.84 vs Price 11-6/ 3.97 Looks like some pretty good match ups. I am most interested in seeing how Price responds to his last outing against the Yankees, after coming off a gem in his last game.
  2. I feel the same way. As a baseball fan, you hate to see good guys get sidelined by injury, even if they are on the rival team. And when you play each other, you want it to be the best against the best. No excuses. That said, I won't be the least bit disappointed when we beat your team with some of your players on the DL.
  3. Strangest thing ever.
  4. I am surprised that somebody beat Jacko to starting this thread. LOL
  5. Sale stated last night that if the situation were crutial, he would be pitching in 2 days. He also said that he is confident he will only miss one start, although I agree with whoever said that the Sox might take this opportunity to give Sale extra rest, depending on how the Yankees series goes. One of the beat writers said that Sale is the type of guy that you take on his word. I am hopeful that this is more precautionary than anything else.
  6. Pom was not the problem in last night's game. He did not pitch well, but he limited the damage and kept the team in the game. I think that if we would have been told before the game that Pom would go 5 innings and only give up 2 runs, we'd take it. The pen has been solid. Our offense needs to get it going. They've been in somewhat of a funk since the All Star break, scoring 3.8 runs/game. That includes one game where they scored 9 runs and another game where they scored 10. It also includes 2 extra innings games.
  7. I wasn't really big on signing Scherzer, but losing Lester hurts. That said, I would not have tried to outbid the Cubs for him. But if that situation had been handled correctly, it never would have gotten to that point.
  8. An all home grown team, while we can dream, is unrealistic. Some of the positions have to be filled through FA or trade. I would tend to sign the 2nd tier, Mitch Moreland types to shorter deals rather than the big name FAs like Price. Trades are okay too, but not one like Kimbrel trade.
  9. Swihart looked pretty good out there. That said, as long as Vazquez is on the DL, I think it's a mistake to trot Swihart out there to other positions. It's too risky health wise. Once Vaz returns, having a 3rd catcher on the team who can also play other positions without being a liability will be a huge plus. That's what I thought we would be getting from Swihart at the start of the season, but for whatever reason, Cora just wouldn't give him the playing time.
  10. Just because a decision ends with a bad result, that does not mean the decision was a mistake. If Moreland were healthy, I still would not have pinch hit for Jackie.
  11. I recall that. He and the team seemed to have turned it around though.
  12. I'm assuming that your numbers are bWAR. Using fWAR: Betts - 6.5 Beni - 3.7 JBJ - 1.3 Total - 11.5 Judge - 5.0 Gardner - 2.3 Hicks - 3.2 Total - 10.5 Plus, our guys are way cooler.
  13. LOL I didn't go quite to that extreme, but your point is correct. There are better ways to spend our resources than on relief pitching, including closers. Please note (not you in particular) that I am not saying that bullpens are not important.
  14. I can't say for sure who would be on my team besides our home grown players, including Lester, but I know I would still have a farm system.
  15. Interesting tidbit - The last game that Kapler played with the Sox, he batted 8th and opposing manager Cora batted 9th. Another interesting tidbit - Does everyone remember how Kapler started off this season, and the fans and media were calling for his head?
  16. I am going off of a report from Evan Drelich yesterday who stated that "sources with knowledge of the team's payroll" told this to NBC Sports Boston. It may not be accurate, but Drelich is usually pretty good.
  17. No worries. This team is so good that game thread ju-ju doesn't affect them one bit. Red Sox for the win!
  18. Thanks. That was what I was thinking.
  19. I don't know is this was posted elsewhere, but according to the powers that be, the Sox, as currently constituted, are projected to be over $237 million. If that's the case, then we might as well get the best pieces available for both the bullpen and 2nd base that we can get. It wouldn't make any sense to have gone over the next threshold for some marginal upgrades.
  20. Good call. After Beeks' start last night, the Rays may become a strictly bullpen rotation. LOL
  21. Remaining strength of schedule: The lucky Yankees still have the second easiest remaining schedule at .470 while the Sox have the 5th toughest remaining schedule at .515. Of further note, per Frangraphs, the Yankees playoff chances are down to 99.9%. They were at 100%. LOL The Sox' chances remain at 100%.
  22. I am impressed that you were able to pull that out of your memory box. That line drive HR from Devers last night had almost no height.
  23. If he's virtually free, I don't see why not. That said, I took a quick look at his defensive numbers and I had to giggle. His UZR/150 at 3B in 2015 was -124.5. I thought to myself, I don't think I've ever seen a number that bad. Then I looked a little farther down, and his UZR/150 at SS this season is -255.4! Holy cow! OK, both samples are extremely, extremely small, but I found that rather funny. The things that keep me entertained...
  24. I would not be surprised if the Yankees make another move. They have been scuffling for a little over a month now, while the Red Sox have been on a torrid pace. I wouldn't call them desperate, but I think they feel a sense of urgency. I am fairly certain that Dombrowski will add a reliever before the deadline.
  25. I have to admit that I haven't really followed him all that closely, but I have the impression that he is punk and a guy that is kind of full of himself. Just my impression. Either way, I don't see the need for Harper.
