  1. I agree that this is a right tailed outcome for him, not that I'm complaining. Considering the types of contracts these players usually get, I absolutely love his contract.
  2. The way that Cora likes to rest his players, there will be enough ABs for everyone. I'm guessing that unless the race really tightens up, the regulars will be getting a little more rest this month than they have been.
  3. The technology that is available these days makes it pretty simple to calculate any stat that you want and to filter the stats by pretty much any criteria that you want. Awesome stuff for people who love stats.
  4. I agree completely. Sorry, but this doesn't sound like a team player to me. How about "I will play wherever the team needs me to play". This idea about only playing 3B under the 'right circumstances' sounds a little too 'me first'.
  5. If he is trying to make anyone feel good about himself, I would think that Devers needs that more than Nunez. Hopefully, Devers will respond to the challenge.
  6. It will be an interesting decision, for sure. I am actually a little surprised by Cora's statement. I thought that he would state that Devers is our starting 3B and that Nunez will return to a utility role. I have been impressed with Nunez' defensive play at 3B, but I'm not sure how long he can keep his offensive hot streak going.
  7. Completely agree.
  8. The interesting thing is that there is evidence that pitchers will pitch differently to a 'protected' batter. Despite that, the protected batter does not produce better results.
  9. On a related note, it's uncanny the number of times a manager pulls his starter after 5 2/3 innings, just short of the Quality Start. It doesn't really mean much, unless you're talking fantasy baseball.
  10. It is interesting to note that Cora has said that whoever is playing better between Nunez and Devers will get the starts. He wouldn't even commit to platooning the two. I think Devers is our 3B of the future, but Cora has definitely sent him a clear message - play better or you will be sitting on the bench the remainder of the season.
  11. When the starters don't give the team the innings that they need to, the bullpen becomes less effective. Having our starters healthy and effective will have a trickle down impact on our relievers.
  12. There is a difference between being called up before you're ready, which is the case with Devers, and being called up when you have no more to gain from AAA and suffering through typical growing pains.
  13. Confirmation bias at its finest.
  14. Jackie is just fine hitting in the #9 slot. If if ain't broke, don't fix it! With Kinsler, Nunez, and Jackie hitting, the bottom of our order has a whole different feel to it.
  15. LOL That can't be possible.
  16. Big money contracts rarely work. Big money to relievers works even less.
  17. If that's the case, then it's 'Thanks for your service, but so long'.
  18. You may very well be right. You had a good point about Kimbrel wanting to stay in Boston for the medical attention that his daughter will need. I hope you are right.
  19. We either get Kimbrel for a reasonable contract or we at least get some compensation when he walks. Both options are preferable to re-signing Kimbrel to a huge contract.
  20. Correct. WAR does an excellent job as a descriptive stat, not as good a job as a predictive stat. That said, WAR (especially fWAR) is a better predictor than most other stats.
  21. I don't think any of us imagined he would be as good as he is. It will be interesting to see what kind of new contract JD will get if he continues to perform at this level through next year.
  22. No, he did need some more time in the minors to work on his defense. He wasn't quite ready yet. I'm not advocating and have never advocated sending him back down to work on it this year, but ideally, he wouldn't have been called up as quickly as he was. Now that he's up, you are absolutely correct about having patience with him.
  23. Interesting pitching match up tonight. I don't know what to expect from either pitcher. Keep the good times rolling! WIN!!!
  24. Don't listen to the talking heads on MLB. Listen to the actual stat geeks.
