The thing that correlates best with post season wins is regular season wins. So, the # of wins does mean something in that regard. Not a lot, as the postseason is still largely a crapshoot, but it means something.

That's true. And he'd likely do it. But in the event that the 2nd catcher got hurt, we'd be in trouble for the rest of the game. Maybe it's not a big enough risk to even worry about? But with Blake being able to play multiple positions, plus pinch run, I would consider it.

No, but that wasn't what I was saying. Having the 3rd catcher is an important factor in being willing to pinch hit for your starting catcher in the 4th inning.

Sandy Leon's offense: Since the beginning of July, his line is .129/.201/.197/.398 . Since the beginning of August, his line is .101/.184./.188/.373 . Leon is in such a horrendous slump offensively, that he will almost have to be pinch hit for in a key situation in the playoffs. And that key situation might come fairly early in the game, like the 4th inning. Because of that, I really don't think it's a bad idea to have both Vaz and Swihart on the roster. I understand that Vaz won't offer much in terms of versatility, but it will give Cora the freedom to pinch hit for Leon at any point in the game, without the concern of losing the catcher. Swihart offers that versatility, including being a pretty good runner.

Not so sure. We could probably be 145-0 if not for Cora.

Cora always has a plan and he is always in the game. I, along with many others, was wondering why he pulled Moreland back in favor of Holt. Even if Holt had struck out, Cora had a very good rationale for making that move. Holt's HR made Cora look like a genius. The dude has the Midas touch.

I pretty much stopped posting in game threads towards the end of the 2011 season. You can imagine how toxic those game threads were.

I think Pom is my biggest disappointment as well. I believed that he would regress, but I didn't think he would pitch as poorly as he had. That said, the team has overcome that disappointment quite well.

Yes, the team can absolutely get there. No, I don't think that getting there should be any part of the team's focus. If it happens (it will), then great, but don't play for that goal.

Leon ranks 4th out of all catchers in pitch framing runs above average at 9.2. He has earned the team roughly 1 Win in pitch framing skills alone. That doesn't include his 'handling of the staff', which I can't prove, but believe is among the tops in baseball.

Absolutely. Imagine, as an opposing batter, adjusting from 95 mph, to 65 mph, back to 95 mph in the same game.

That's fine, but we have other options, especially once Sale gets back and we have all of our starters finally healthy.
