  1. I agree. All the alternate uniforms are getting to be too much.
  2. Ha. Nicely done. It may be a good thing he was on the DL for Players Weekend.
  3. I have not changed mine either. Not that I'm superstitious or anything...
  4. I do believe they auction a lot of those uniforms off.
  5. Plays are ranked by difficulty based on where the ball is hit, what type of batted ball it is (fly ball versus line drive, for instance) and whether the ball was hit soft, medium, or hard. The difficulty factor is determined by how often that type of play is made. If a player makes the play look easier or harder than it was, that has no bearing on the difficulty factor. JBJ making a play look routine, and another CF having to dive to make the same play would get the exact same credit. With Statcast data now available, defensive metrics will become more and more accurate.
  6. I really believe that Cora should tell some of these pitchers who can't seem to get on the same page with Leon or Vaz and take forever between pitches that they are not allowed to shake off the catcher. Get the sign and make the pitch. Stop thinking so much on the mound.
  7. Sandy is pretty good at framing pitches. BP has him ranked 8th out of all MLB catchers with +9.2 framing runs. That is virtually one game that he has won for the team with his framing skills. StatCorner has him ranked 4th out of all MLB catchers with +9.0 framing runs. Sandy averages 1.08 extra stirke calls per game, ranking him 14th in that category, but some of the catchers ahead of him have very small sample sizes.
  8. That's the spirit!
  9. I was okay with the pink uniforms on Mother's Day to promote breast cancer awareness. Then, they added the blue uniforms on Father's Day to promote prostate cancer awareness, and I was okay with that too. I'm also okay with the red, white, and blue uniforms to celebrate our great country on the 4th of July. But come on. They have gone too far with these Player Weekend unis. Before we know it, they will be doing a special type of uni every weekend.
  10. Maybe, but it sure isn't good for the fans. LOL
  11. It does make for more exciting times, that's for sure.
  12. You are absolutely right about teams' inability to score in that place. I don't know what the reason for that is. Maybe they have the visitor's clubhouse rigged with subliminal messaging.
  13. I have found that for the most part, people are opposed to advanced stats for one of two reasons: 1. They don't understand the stat correctly. 2. The stat does not support their opinion of something, therefore the stat must be bad.
  14. That is a valid point. The same might be said of Mookie being somewhat hurt by having Jackie in center. I know that there are several fly balls to right center where Jackie and Mookie both converge on the ball. Either player could make the play, but only one can get credit for it.
  15. That would be interesting to look at. Unfortunately, neither Fangraphs or BR does any defensive splits.
  16. Players don't get penalized in UZR for making a play look easy. Similarly, players who have to dive to make a routine play do not get bonus points for making the play look harder than it was. JBJ may be hurt somewhat because he doesn't have a lot of CF wall over which he can rob others of homeruns at Fenway.
  17. The Red Sox are 0-4 and have been outscored 35-7 over the past 2 seasons during Ugly Uni Weekend. It's time to put an end to that nonsense, both the losing and the ugly unis. WIN!!!
  18. Some good points about Nunez. He deserves some love too. His numbers might not be the greatest, but he gives it 100% every time out and he does whatever Cora has asked of him.
  19. Price is getting to the point where he should be in the Cy Young discussions. He won't win it because he lags behind the top contenders due to his start of the season, but I think he is working his way into the discussion.
  20. Price is the first guy that came to my mind when I was reading the opening post. I would have to go with him and Leon. It's nice to see that Holt is getting some love again.
  21. Isn't there (or wasn't there) also a rule about the batter not stepping out of batter's box in between every pitch to adjust his gloves or whatever? I actually think it helps the pitcher a great deal to pitch quickly and not overthink what he's doing, but I don't want to see that forced upon a pitcher by MLB. OTOH, I have often said that the Red Sox coaches should tell some pitchers (Buchholz comes to mind) that they are not allowed to shake off the catcher or that they are not allowed to throw to first base unless called for from the dugout.
  22. I get frustrated when a pitcher takes forever in between pitches, but I like that human element aspect of that part of the game. I like the cat and mouse that sometimes goes on between pitcher and batter, and I love to see how different pitchers respond to being in jam. Some pitchers just seem to be so deeply inside their own heads. I am actually in favor of limiting the shift, as contradictory as that may sound. I think baseball was designed to be played with 2 infielders on each side of 2nd base.
  23. Some good and interesting ideas Jacko, but I would be opposed to #3 and #5.
