  1. I really do like the idea of having 3 catchers, provided that one of the 3 can play multiple positions.
  2. That might be the case, but my point isn't about having a draft pick versus having Kimbrel. It's about not paying the large contract to Kimbrel. I would offer Kimbrel a moderate 2, maybe 3 year deal, and give him a QO, not necessarily in that order. If he declines all offers, at least we get some compensation in form of a pick.
  3. I would definitely offer him a QO, and I would hope he takes it. The amount of money is higher than what I would like to pay, but I have always been a fan of offering more AAV for fewer years. A QO for one year would be ideal, if he would accept it. If he doesn't, we get the draft pick. Win-win.
  4. Wise, wise man.
  5. Pitching match ups for the series: Thursday...Porcello 15-7/ 4.18 vs Giollto 10-9/ 5.85....8pm... Friday....Eovaldi 5-6/ 4.15 vs Kopech 0-0/ 1.13....8pm Saturday...E-rod....11-3/ 3.44 vs Rodon 6-3/ 2.70.....7pm Sunday....Johnson 4-3/ 4.12 vs Shields.....5-15/ 4.59.....2pm
  6. The Red Sox should not offer Kimbrel a huge contract. I felt that way when he was being dominant. It's better than Kimbrel falters now rather than in the postseason. Hopefully by then, he is back to being dominant.
  7. Or even a check swing dribbler.
  8. Also, how often do we see the momentum change in one inning, only to have it change back the next? Momentum cannot be used as a predicting tool.
  9. You can disagree, but this is another topic that has been dissected every which way, and the idea of a team with momentum having a better chance of winning its next game is pretty much incorrect.
  10. Right. The Yankees had all the momentum in the world in the ALCS. Until they didn't.
  11. I like having Kinsler on our team too. Not only does he solidify 2B, he also makes our depth/bench guys stronger.
  12. Devers should and will be our everyday 3B once he returns, though Cora might ease him back into it. Nunez has been a pleasant surprise since taking over everyday 3B duties, but he, like Holt, serves the team better in a utility role.
  13. 100% Keep the win streak going!
  14. With the new Statcast data, defensive metrics will only get better. They can track exactly how far the player had to run to get to a ball, along with exit velocity and launch angle of the ball. All of this gives the scouts very accurate reads on defensive plays.
  15. 1. Every play is watched by at least two different video scouts. Also, they watch the plays several times, if needed. 2. The scouts aren't recording the plays by watching whether the player made the play look easy or hard, but by the quadrant in which the ball was caught. 3. The velocity of the batted ball can now be measured accurately.
  16. If you were talking about the Sox versus the Orioles, that would be a good bet. But that has to do with the difference in talent, not in momentum. If you were talking about the Sox versus the Yankees, or any two teams who are somewhat fairly matched, you would lose that bet as often as you'd win it.
  17. If Vaz is healthy, I am thinking the Sox may go with 3 catchers. Swihart can play other positions as well, and Cora once referred to Swihart as his pinch runner in a Dave Roberts type situation.
  18. Momentum is another one of those myth type things. Momentum does not hold any predictive ability for the postseason, for the next series, for the next game, or even for the next inning. Momentum does exist in the descriptive sense, but not in the predictive sense.
  19. I agree. All the alternate uniforms are getting to be too much.
  20. Ha. Nicely done. It may be a good thing he was on the DL for Players Weekend.
  21. I have not changed mine either. Not that I'm superstitious or anything...
  22. I do believe they auction a lot of those uniforms off.
  23. Plays are ranked by difficulty based on where the ball is hit, what type of batted ball it is (fly ball versus line drive, for instance) and whether the ball was hit soft, medium, or hard. The difficulty factor is determined by how often that type of play is made. If a player makes the play look easier or harder than it was, that has no bearing on the difficulty factor. JBJ making a play look routine, and another CF having to dive to make the same play would get the exact same credit. With Statcast data now available, defensive metrics will become more and more accurate.
