  1. If I'm not mistaken, after Foulke went south after 2004, Theo commented that signing Foulke to what was then a big deal was not a good idea. When he was with the Sox, Theo was very much in agreement with the 'collect as many bodies as you can and see what sticks' philosophy. I haven't followed all of his BP moves that closely since he went to the Cubs, but I know that he has signed acquired some big names. Maybe he's losing his touch in his old age. LOL
  2. If it were up to me, I'd offer him 2 years. I'd be willing (grudgingly) to give him 3.
  3. If it's going to take more than 3 years to sign him, they have to let him walk.
  4. I like watching the aggressiveness too.
  5. Yes, this post was directed at them.
  6. Can you tell I'm bored? LOL
  7. I love this post.
  8. Also, there's this: Jen McCaffrey ‏Verified account @jcmccaffrey 4m4 minutes ago Red Sox announce RHP Hector Velazquez will not start tonight’s game against the Mets due to illness. RHP William Cuevas will start in his place.

  10. I completely agree. And I'm a Vazquez fan. Vaz just hasn't really cut it this year.
  11. One of the many, many examples of why W-L records are not a good gauge of a pitcher's ability. Personally, I'd love to see the Cy given to a pitcher with a losing record. deGrom and Syndegaard this series won't be easy.
  12. Ownership can afford to pay for any player they want. They have shown a willingness to do so, to an extent. Ownership is not going to spend without limit, however.
  13. 1. Tough call on whether to keep him or not with the way that he's pitching right now, but I think I'd prefer that he opt out. 2. I can see the Yankees paying him more than what he would get with us. Not only to they need starting pitching, but that would also keep him away from us.
  14. I always felt like there was a greater likelihood of Price opting out because he was so unhappy here, rather than because he's pitching so well. With the way he's been pitching, he has won the fans back, so I think any of those sour feelings are gone.
  15. Kudos to Workman for coming into that mess and getting out of it.
  16. Yup. So yes, it might look like Cora is blowing games or doesn't care about winning, but the bigger picture is more important right now than winning any particular game. Back to back to back.
  17. No doubt he will.
  18. Cora has recently said that he wants his starters to pitch to all 3 catchers in the remaining games. Not a bad idea, but also not something to be messing around with in the playoffs. Come playoff time, Leon needs to be behind the plate.
  19. Broken down by categories: UBR = -9.6 wGDP = -4.5 wSB = 6.9 We are very good at stealing bases. Advancing an extra base or avoiding a double play, not so much.
  20. When the aggressiveness works, like it did last night, it's very fun and exciting to watch. Personally, I love the philosophy. We just have to keep in mind (not speaking to you particularly), that this aggressiveness will often lead to outs on the bases. You live by aggressive base running, you might also die by it.
  21. Cora is in audition mode with his relievers, which is probably why he left Kelly in as long as he did. I appreciate all that Kelly has done for us this season, including the plunking of the Yankees punk, but he is too inconsistent to be on the postseason roster. I read yesterday that Brasier and Poyner rank 2nd and 3rd out of 627 in getting batters to swing at pitches that are out of the middle of the zone, so the batters are not doing a lot of damage against them. Poyner is also getting a lot more playing time recently than any other lefty. I'd be surprised if those two are not on the postseason roster.
  22. Awesome. Glad you guys had the chance to meet, and glad you both had a good game to watch.
