It doesn't really make any sense for Cora to put Wright on the roster if he knew that Wright couldn't pitch. I really think Cora was planning on going with Wright to back up Sale in last night's game.

I do not have a whole lot of trust in Kelly, but I'm not surprised he made the roster. It looks like Hembree is getting the call to replace Wright. Cora like his strike out rate.

If Wright had been healthy and entered the game after Sale, the bullpen travesty would have been a non issue as well. Wright did not have to start the game for the Sale/Wright tandem to be effective.

No. We were able to say that about 2017, that the poor performances were not sustainable.

1. Agreed. Sale is back! Agree on 2 and 3 as well. 4. I'm hoping that it was just a combination of nerves and the long layoff for the bullpen and they got it out of their systems. They should be better next time out. 5. Porcello had already thrown about 25 pitches in a bullpen earlier in the day. He might not be available for his start in Game 4, which speaks volumes for the kind of player Porcello is.

That game was far too nerve wracking! Thank goodness the Sox held on. I probably would not have been able to sleep if they blew it. No matter how, a win is a win and we'll take it. Win Game 2 tonight!

Sandy Leon was the unsung hero of the game, followed closely by Porcello. In addition to the 5 blocked pitches with runners on base, Leon was able to coax the pitchers through their messes. This is why you have him behind the plate, despite the woeful offense. Kudos to Porcello as well, who likely gave up his Game 3 start to save the bullpen from its woes last night.

Kelly is one of the least prone pitchers on the Sox to give up the long ball, which was a big factor in Cora's decision.

1. Well, I am not worried about Sale. He's our ace. If you can't trust your ace to go out there for Game 1, then your team is probably in trouble. IMO, Sale will get the job done. 2. The Rays had to go with bullpen games because they didn't have the starters. We have the starters. 3. I'm not taking anything away from Wright. He's been very good for us this season. As other have posted, I just think having Wright follow Sale rather than Sale following Wright makes more sense for several reasons. -

Throw all that stuff about which line up is better, etc. out the window for the playoffs. Any player can OPS 1.200 for a few games, and any player can go 0 for 15. At any rate, I think the teams are pretty evenly matched overall. It's anybody's game and series.
