  1. It's funny how that works.
  2. Porcello does need to pitch the game of his life, probably just not tonight.
  3. It's possible that Sale could go in Game 4 on short rest. Of course, that leaves the question as to who starts Game 5, but in the playoffs, you do what you have to do to win today's game. Worry about tomorrow's game tomorrow.
  4. Our line up is fine. Minus Leon, that is.
  5. I love that quote.
  6. No, but you can argue that if a pitcher is getting squeezed, it forces him to start catching more of the plate than he'd like to. Note: I am not excusing Price's poor pitching.
  7. Porcello will be available out of the pen if things get dicey.
  8. I feel good about our chances with Porcello, Eovaldi, then Sale pitching in Games 3, 4, and 5.
  9. I have to disagree with that. As I stated in the game thread, I am not one to blame the umpire for calling strikes or balls that seem heavily in favor of one team over the other. In last night's game, however, I do think that Tanaka was given the advantage on those close pitches that were just off the plate. He got several calls that our pitchers did not. I am not saying that that is the reason why Price did not pitch well. I'm also not saying that that is the reason why the Sox lost. However, I do think that the bat was taken out of our hitters' hands on several occasions and I do think that that allowed Tanaka to not have to throw strikes. That said, Tanaka does deserve credit for being able to repeatedly hit those spots that he knew would be strikes for him.
  10. Trollish posts always get more attention than serious ones, which is the very intent of the troll, as we all know. And yet, we can't help ourselves. I remember when I first started posting at BDC. It took the longest time before anyone outside of the Sawxheads posters (You, Cycles, Zac, and JoeB basically) would respond to me. I mentioned this to several fellow posters independently, and the response was the same from each one - Post something stupid. LOL Very true. On that note, I will give a shout out to the Talksox posters who were here when I joined (and to you, in particular, for getting me here) . I felt welcomed and part of the forum from Day 1.
  11. Exactly. Win one game and the whole tide of the series changes back to our advantage.
  12. That's the spirit! I do think the Yankees have the advantage now, but I don't think that that advantage really means much. I still like our chances.
  13. Of course, the worst case scenario for us could unfold. OTOH, so could the best case scenario. Three games - It's hard to predict anything. Think positively!
  14. Or maybe Sale would have struggled even more because he's not used to entering a game in the 3rd inning. Regardless, if Wright were available, I still don't see the advantage of your scenario over getting 6 from Sale, then 2 from Wright, then 1 from Kimbrel. Yes, I realize that Sale did not go quite 6, but I think the point stands.
  15. I am not one who usually does not complain about the unfairness of the strike zone, but last night I really thought that Tanaka was getting an unfair advantage on those borderline calls. Credit to him for being able to hit those spots, but that still does take the bat out of our hitters' hands and forces our pitchers to hit more of the plate.
  16. I'm all in with this post!
  17. Actually, I believe it was a 50-50 chance at the start of the series. Now, technically, based on history, we are looking at a 37% chance. LOL Home teams who split the first two games have won the series 37% of the time. But this is the postseason. And these are the Boston Red Sox. Throw those numbers out the window!
  18. Momentum means nothing. That said, I do think the advantage has shifted to the Yankees because they now have 'HFA'. That said, you see how much 'HFA' did for us when we had it - a split. As I posted earlier in another thread, I sometimes think it's better not to have HFA in the ALDS because the opposing team only has to win 1 of the 2 first games, then they have a chance to go home and clinch it.
  19. Basically, it's down to a 3 game series. The Sox have been winning 3 game series all year long. I know the post season is a different animal and the opponent is a tougher opponent than what we've seen most of the year, but the Sox can absolutely win this. The series is anything but over.
  20. I agree that pitching + defense = parades, but there has to be some offense. Against the Yankees line up, two runs is not going to cut it. The offense has to do a better job.
  21. Post of the game thread.
  22. Yup, I was very wrong about Price's start. I really thought he was going to do it. I feel bad for the guy.
  23. This game is on the offense as much as it is on Price. Price could have pitched a stellar game and we likely still would not have won with only 2 runs scored.
  24. The Sox are taking both games in the Bronx. No need to get back to Fenway.
  25. That was great. Kelly's pitching was also a highlight. I am one of the ones who didn't want him on the postseason roster. He came up big last night. Even though we didn't win the game, Kelly's 2.1 innings with 0 runs given up was huge at that point in the game.
