    Once Hanley was DFA'd, it probably would have been worthwhile to have JD start taking some reps at first base. At the moment, I'm not willing to give up Pearce's or Moreland's defense at that position. Pearce, in particular, has been outstanding with those stretches.

    It's not like Cora and his staff take these decisions lightly. As much debating as we do on this forum about where to play JD, you can bet that they have discussed every pro and con that we have, and then some. The team is in good hands.

    Mookie has been spending more time this week practicing at 2B. If if comes to that, he'll be ready.

    The Dodgers are not to be taken lightly. The Sox are the better team, but the Dodgers are no slouches. It should be a good series. I think the Sox will win it 6.

    I think a huge part of Cora's success is getting his players to buy into the analytics. He said that was a priority in the offseason and it looks like it's working.

    I was agreeing with Bell about Dombrowski's brilliance for this year. I do not think that his moves during the first two years of his tenure with Boston were brilliant, Price contract included. That said, I am a David Price fan, and I've had confidence in him to pitch very well this season. It looks like it's all coming together for us. The Championship is by no means a given, but if we do win it all, all of Dombrowsk's moves will have been worth it.

    I think a strong argument can be made that managing in the AL is more difficult than managing in the NL.

    I would still put Francona ahead of Cora as well. Cora is arguably having the best single season as a manager, but Francona's overall resume' far outweighs Cora's at this point.

    But I think that a lot of what posters deem to be mistakes, really aren't mistakes at all. Just because a decision does not have the desired outcome, that doesn't mean it was a mistake. Now I'm not saying that they never make mistakes. I'm also not saying that managers aren't open to questioning. I do think much of the criticism is unwarranted though.

    My guess is that some of his decision will be based on what happens in the first 2 or 3 games. If Cora feels like he needs to 'shake things up' a bit or go bold, then he will try Mookie at 2nd base. If things are going well, he'll stay with the safer choice of having JBJ or Beni sit.

    1. For whatever reason, Cora seems to prefer JD in right field. Maybe that's more of a Fenway thing? 2. Beni is an overall better player than Jackie. Beni's offense outweighs Jackie's defense. I agree with you about the defensive alignment, and believe me when I say, I am as huge a fan of defense and of Jackie as you are. This is not a knock on JBJ in any way. I just think that's what Cora is going to do. And if Cora chooses to sit Beni instead of Jackie, I'd be okay with that decision as well. The real problem stems from not being able to use our DH. MLB needs to fix that.

    I would prefer the DH as well, but I really just want both leagues to be the same. I will add that while most of the pitchers' at bats end in futility, I get a big thrill when I see pitchers get a big hit, like Porcello's double with a head first slide into second base.

    JBJ - Mr. Clutch Cora is not going to be swayed by recent, short, or heroic results. I hate to see JBJ have to sit, but he is the logical choice. IMO, JBJ sits for 2 games and Beni sits 1 game.

    I can't see Wright replacing Swihart. I am 100% in favor of keeping Swihart on the roster, whether he actually plays in a a game or not. As I posted earlier, the luxury of being able to pinch hit for our catchers is a big benefit. Plus, with the need to pinch hit for our pitchers, we need the position player over the extra pitcher. I can see Wright replacing Hembree, who was only added after Wright got injured to begin with. All that said, I am also a fan of the 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' philosophy. Whatever the case, I trust Cora to make the right decision.

    LOL I would be down with an immaculate inning. A 1-2-3 inning, of course, is the preferred outing. But I can usually stay fairly calm as long as the tying run does not come to the plate, where one swing can blow the save. In a 1 run game, the tying run automatically comes to the plate, so those are pretty much always nerve wracking no matter what. With a 3 run lead, I can deal with a base runner. The bases loaded crap, where the 1/2 inning takes 20 minutes (or more), is unbearable.

    Cora has our team ready. He is so baseball smart that I don't really think it matters what the other team's strategy is. And our players are good enough to usually adapt or adjust to whatever the other team is throwing out there. The Series is by no means in the bag, but I'm feeling good about our chances.

    I've said it many times, but I'll say it again. He's no Koji. The thing that I liked best about Koji is that he didn't mess around, and he didn't walk batters. There was rarely any drama when Koji came in. We can all do without the 9th inning drama, for sure.
