  1. 'Poor little Hal Steinbrenner' is right. From Sherman: Hal Steinbrenner refers to “the first week in October” often in a 40-minute phone conversation. He uses that term (“first week in October”). Not the Division Series. Not the loss to the Red Sox. It haunts and irritates. The Yankees owner both wants to put his arms around the reason his team was ousted (all together now) in “the first week of October,” yet it is palpable how much he is repelled by the subject. That it was the hated Red Sox who eliminated the Yankees and went on to win a fourth championship in 15 years “certainly pisses me off. I never want a division rival to outdo us.” At another point, Steinbrenner offers, “I have no love for the Red Sox on the field or in the division.” I feel bad for Steinbrenner. NOT!
  2. As much as losing those close games hurts, it is actually a much better sign to lose a close game than it is to lose a blowout. As I've said many times, a one run loss or win comes down to random factors more than it comes down to skill. Losing that game was crushing, but not in the sense of the overall outcome of the series. I never thought we would sweep any of the series to begin with, so I still really liked our chances after that game.
  3. I still have the games on my DVR as well. I will go back over the winter, when I'm really going through baseball withdrawal, and relive the magic.
  4. And I say this as a huge Cora fan since Day 1.
  5. Yes, you're still alone. Cora had the single greatest season of any manager of all time, I will grant you that. Cora might very well be on his way to being the greatest Sox manager ever. But, IMO, it's hard to give that title to Cora after only one season. What if the team only wins 80 games next year and misses the playoffs, with mostly the same players back? Is Cora still the greatest manager ever?
  6. JD may or may not opt out, but what I hope the Sox don't do is renegotiate JD's contract to more years. The thing that was so great about his signing was the reasonable length of the contract.
  7. Ha.
  8. Dombrowski does not get to where he is with the Red Sox today without Ben's foundation.
  9. I more or less agree with what you've posted here. What I liked about most of Ben's FA signings is that were relatively short term. I was fully on board with the Hanley signing. I didn't think a 4 year contract for a player of his caliber (at the time of the signing) was a bad deal. The Pablo signing was bad, though I'm convinced that that was not Ben's doing. Even so, I understand the rationale for signing him.
  10. I really never thought he would opt out in order to try to get a better contract. I thought there was a good possibility of him opting out if he was truly unhappy playing for Boston. Having pitched the way he did in the postseason and winning back the fans, there was no way he was opting out.
  11. Oh yes, Dave has budged quite a bit. The gap between Ben and Dave is much smaller than it was.
  12. Dudes dig the long ball.
  13. What an exhausting game that was. The players are talking about how Eovaldi's performance was their rallying point. Way cool.
  14. The road to the World Series Championship is always made sweeter when it goes through the Yankees. I would have been thrilled had they not made the playoffs at all, but you can't argue with eliminating them from the playoffs on their home turf.
  15. I am happy to say that I have been a fan of the Kelly trade and of the Porcello signing since day one. I was also a fan of the Castillo signing, which doesn't look like it has any chance of turning around for us.
  16. Theo > Ben > Dave FACT!
  17. But at least you all have me. I'm sweet and lovable.
  18. Thanks Ben!
  19. Kinsler was a very solid pick up as well.
  20. He did, indeed. While JD got a big contract, 5 years is really nothing for the caliber of player we got. As I believe you know, finding guys like Eovaldi and Pearce, not to mention Brasier, is what makes a great GM IMO. I'm more impressed with these kinds of under the radar moves than I am with acquiring the all stars. I still do not like what Dombrowski did to our farm, but I have said many times that if we won the World Series, it would all be worth it. In my eyes, Dombrowski redeemed himself this year. Not that he needed redemption from me.
  21. I don't mind Buck. I've heard worse.
  22. I am extremely happy for David Price. I'm still not a fan of his contract, and never will be, but because he's a player on my beloved Red Sox, I have become emotionally attached to him, as I do with almost every Sox player. After he had that horrendous postseason start against the Yankees, I truly felt bad for him. Seeing that huge smile on his face as he was holding the WS trophy did my heart good.
  23. The tweet was not in reference to whether he opts out or not. It had something to do with the media's treatment of him or something along those lines.
  24. Dombrowski did an awesome job of putting together this championship team. The moves he made this season were pure gold. Thank you Dave!
