  1. Devers is reportedly going to spend all off season working with JD Martinez in Miami. Good for both of them.
  2. Agree, it would be nice to own some Red Sox World Series memorabilia.
  3. That doesn't really say that any of those teams had a much less chance of winning the World Series than any other team though. Any team entering the playoffs has a much larger chance of being eliminated than they have of winning it all. The Red Sox have been very good, but at the same time, they have been lucky. A different bounce of the ball could have made the difference in winning any of those championships.
  4. I agree. Many of us have made comparisons to the 2013 throughout the season.
  5. I would love to own some of those things. My bank account disagrees with me, though.
  6. I found this moment absolutely awesome. For me, it's one of the many highlights of the season. It's not that he flashed the card, per se. It's that Mookie was waaaayyy out of position for a right fielder, and McCann hit the ball right to him. I don't think he even had to take a step. It's like the waving of the card was symbolic of Mookie probably being hesitant about playing that far towards center field, but then acknowledging the mantra, "In Cora We Trust".
  7. Well, if Dave signs Kimbrel to a 5 year, $100 million deal, I'm most certainly going to criticize him for that. He brought us a World Series. All moves leading up to that and the impending cliff are forgiven. Everything he has done has been worth it. I'm not saying that I now agree with all of his moves. I still think that we could have won a World Series without the 'at any cost' dealing, but that flag will fly forever, so IMO, the over-payments are worth it. That does not give him a free pass from this point forward. Dombrowski won me over with his moves during the 2018 season. If he continues with more of those types of moves, I'll be his biggest fan.
  8. Yeah, I don't really believe that he will go with Barnes or Brasier, though I would have no problem with that.
  9. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. We have another World Series ring. Dombrowski's moves have all been worth it.
  10. By my calculations, the favorite has a 4% better chance of winning it all than the longshot.
  11. Ha. Great minds... I agree that 60-40 is too steep. I have it at 55-45, and even that may be a bit steep.
  12. 100% randomness? No. But probably more randomness than actual skill. In short series, randomness is king.
  13. I would have to disagree with you there Bell. I think the favorite team, at best, would be at about 55% chance of winning each series, while the weakest team would be at about 45%. That puts the favorite team at about 16-17% chance of winning the whole thing, as opposed to the weakest team having about a 9% chance. That's not much different than the flat out even 1 out of 8 chance of 12.5%.
  14. Joe Kelly for 2019 closer. Get it done, Dave!
  15. The luxury tax system and our depleted farm.
  16. Every hockey fan I know says that it is, by far, the most exciting sport to watch. I have never been able to get into it, but I'm sure that if I followed it as closely as I do baseball, I would agree with them.
  17. No doubt. Locking them up now will be easier said than done. I still find it very disheartening that for most players, it's all about the money. One of the reasons why I am such a huge fan of Pedroia's is that he was willing to lock up long term with the team that he loves, rather than going for the most money.
  18. Each one of our championship teams is special for their own reasons. For me, no World Series Championship will ever top 2004. If we had never won another World Series after that, I'd be good to go. Not that I haven't thoroughly enjoyed each of the others, and not that I don't want to win every year, but I was set after 2004. The rest of these championships are gravy.
  19. I agree that Kimbrel likely has a couple more good years in him. I would love to have him back on a 2 year deal. Seeing as how he is likely to get 4-5 years, I would have to pass. It will be interesting to see what Dombrowski does in terms of a closer. I trust him to get us a quality one. I don't trust him to make a good deal in doing so.
  20. Well, you might have a point. After all, Sale did cut up those jerseys, which, despite how anyone wants to rationalize it, was an extremely selfish and childish thing to do. That said, the way that the pitchers were all approaching Cora in the offseason, letting him know that they were available to pitch in whatever capacity Cora needed, leads me to believe that there was not much, if any, selfishness going on with this team.
  21. IMO, the worse kind of baseball season would be one in which the Red Sox are eliminated by the Yankees, who then go on to win the World Series. The sooner the Yankees are eliminated, the better. While it was sweet eliminating them in the ALDS, I would not be a single bit opposed to the Yankees being eliminated in September.
  22. I think the biggest issue with the length of the game is the commercial breaks. The length of the breaks during the postseason games was beyond ridiculous. I know that MLB and the networks are not going to get rid of their commercials, but that is the biggest culprit. The pitching changes in the later innings (which leads to more commercial breaks) is another big culprit. I read a suggestion somewhere to require all relievers to pitch to a minimum of 3 batters or maybe a minimum pitch count of 30 pitches, whichever comes first, unless there is an injury. I would be on board with that rule. I also like the suggestion that defenders have to play withing certain zones, like the SS has to play on the left side of 2nd base.
  23. My sentiments exactly.
