  1. Yikes Moon. Best wishes to you.
  2. If I knew anything about economic theory, I might have a better response for you.
  3. I don't think James expressed himself very well, and I don't think he meant it to come out as callously as it did. Certainly, the players are the game, and certainly, you want to put a good product on the field to keep fan interest. That said, I still think his overall point stands. Take Mookie, for instance. If it's going to take a 10 year deal to re-sign him, I'm letting him walk. He can be replaced. Not necessarily by a single player, but with the money it would take to keep him, the Sox can certainly replace his production. And, I'm guessing that the fans would be just as happy if the team continued to be a playoff contender.
  4. I don't think that we would have necessarily heard anything about it yet. Some of the decision on whether to try JD at first will be determined by what else happens in the offseason, which is still in the very early stages. As far as Devers moving to first, I can see that happening in the future, but I don't see it happening this year. Not with Moreland slated to be back.
  5. I would not give him a contract extension of that length. The best thing about JD's contract was the reasonable of its length, even if JD was just so-so and chose not to opt out. I think it would be a mistake for the Sox to now go back and turn it into a contract that's far too long.
  6. Agreed. If this is something the Sox are considering, I'm sure Cora is all over it.
  7. I'm surprised that the Sox did not start giving JD some reps at 1B as soon as they DFA'd Hanley. At any rate, I like the idea of JD playing some first base for us next year. He can still play in the OF from time to time too.
  8. My belief has always been that there are far better ways to spend your resources than on a closer, or bullpen in general. I'm not saying that building a strong pen isn't important, just that it can be done relatively cheaply. There is a reason why replacement level for relievers is so low.
  9. Well, in most cases this is the truth.
  10. Well, I think his overall point is that no player is worth signing to a ludicrous contract. Which is spot on.
  11. I don't think that's an accurate interpretation of what posters are saying about Kimbrel. I love Kimbrel. I want him here and I'd like to keep him as our closer for next year. I have never liked what we gave up for him. If we do re-sign him, I am pretty sure I'm not going to like the contract. At the same time, I'll continue to be happy to have him on my team.
  12. I more or less agree with all of this. I am not suggesting that we should hoard our prospects. Part of the reason for having prospects is to trade them. I do think that we went farther than we needed to (Did we really need Sale? LOL) and that we could have made some better deals, but it's a moot point now. I have been with you all along in believing that Ben would have traded some prospects if he had stayed here as GM. I am also 100% convinced we would have made the playoffs each of these years with Ben at the helm. I am curious to see what kind moves the Sox make this year and the next couple of years.
  13. I'd be happy with the MLB minimum salary. LOL
  14. I really don't like teams having an unending supply of relievers on their expanded rosters and being able to change pitchers at will.
  15. I get all that oldtimer. I don't expect all of the prospects to be brought up to the big club. I also know that part of the reason for having prospects is to trade them. My issue is with the magnitude of the prospects traded away in approximately 2 years. Our farm system went from being one of the best to being one of the worst in that short amount of time. I have never questioned or doubted the caliber of the teams that Dombrowski has put on the big league field. I just think there can be the same short term success balanced better with the long term outlook. All that said, I really do not want to take away from the record breaking team that we had this year, not to mention the World Series Championship. Dombrowski set out with a goal, and he very successfully accomplished it. His moves were all worth it. Thanks Dave!
  16. Since Henry took over ownership, I have felt like the Sox were contenders every year as we entered the season. Obviously, there were several seasons in which things didn't work out. What happens on the field can't be helped. It's the job of the GM to put together a contending team on paper. Theo, Ben, and Dombrowski have done that for over 15 consecutive years. So yes, IMO, that kind of success can be sustained if the farm system is good enough. It has been good enough until about 2 years ago. Time will tell whether that marks the end of the run of having a contending team as we enter the season.
  17. Good. Eovaldi should be a priority over Kimbrel.
  18. I have started re-watching the playoff games that I have saved on my DVR. I've only re-watched ALDS Game 1 so far. The games are so much more relaxing to watch after the fact. Also, I have put in my Christmas order for the World Series DVD set.
  19. I don't follow football closely enough to make the comparison with Belichick. As far as the Sox go this year, Cora started preparing his players from Day 1. His focus all season has been geared towards the postseason, from both a mental standpoint and from a physical standpoint.
  20. There's no way of knowing for sure what would have happened. I don't want to take anything away from JD because he is a great player and he definitely made our team better. IMO, however, this team as a whole, along with several individual players, were due to bounce back. I believe they would have been better this year with or without JD. I also think Cora deserves some credit for the offensive improvements we saw this year.
  21. I don't disagree with that. I just think that there other factors to consider for MVP. If it were a Player of the Year Award, I'd be okay with taking the top WAR guy.
  22. LOL That's pretty funny.
  23. I am sorry to say that I read this about 7 times, and I still don't understand what you're saying. My question is, do you mean that having a strong farm system is overrated, or do you mean that people tend to overrate their farm systems?
