  1. Well, Pedroia definitely needs to be on that list. The Sox have no choice but to repeat.
  2. Actually, this is more Cherington's championship than it is Dombrowski's.
  3. It could also be said that it's only a sharp strategy because we won it all. What is we had been knocked out in the first round again? If it hadn't have worked, things would not be looking as 'okay' with the penalties as they do now.
  4. You, of course, are welcome to make as many line up changes and suggestions as you want. I'm just probably not going to agree with them.
  5. No doubt. It's not the $35 million I'm concerned about, it's the 10 years.
  6. I don't mind a Sunday night game. I just don't like the 8:00 start time. IMO, a 6:00 start time is perfect.
  7. You don't have to let everyone walk. Keep some of the players who won't cost as much to keep. We can keep 2 or 3 players for cost of Mookie.
  8. Even more reason to trade Mookie before he possibly walks.
  9. I think you hit the nail on the head when you said to take the emotions out of it. Everybody loves Mookie and wants him back, including myself. But signing him to the type of contract that I think he's going to command is really not the smartest thing to do, for a couple of reasons. I can certainly understand why some fans feel like he needs to be re-signed no matter what cost. It really will be interesting to see how Henry and Dombrowski handle things next year.
  10. Sense in teams facing a pending cliff terms.
  11. Batting line ups have been a topic for debate for as long as we can remember. Old habits die hard. LOL about the trades. I don't have enough time to study all of the other players on all of the other teams in order to know what might work and what won't. I prefer to wait until a trade is made and I know who the particular players involved are to give my two cents on whether it was a good trade or not. Trying to come up with a 3 team, 8 player trade is not going to happen.
  12. I understand that most players have batted in several different spots. Comfort level is probably not that big of an issue either, but it's still a bigger issue than any changes you're trying to make based on the opposing pitcher and who might be hot or cold at a particular time of the season.
  13. Not if it's going to tie up $300+ million. Tying that kind of money up in one player will make it all the more difficult to replace the others. It actually might make more sense to trade Betts next offseason.
  14. How are we going to replace them? It takes either money or prospects. If we're resetting, we won't have the money. And we don't have the prospects.
  15. It's possible that another team likes him as a super sub type who can also catch. There is some value in that.
  16. As I said, you may be right. For all we know, we may go into the season with all 3 catchers again. Or, we may acquire Cervelli and decide that Vaz is the best trade trip of the three. If it were me making the decisions, I'd leave the catching duo alone.
  17. I am just not a fan of micro managing the line up based on who is pitching. It just doesn't make a big enough difference. IMO, it might do more harm than good having the batters hit in different line up spots from day to day. That said, the decision should be based on the player's comfort level in a certain spot, and also the comfort level of having a consistent spot versus being moved around. As we've mentioned many times, I'll trust Cora to know what's best.
  18. It's more of an "Opener" type game than a bullpen game. The idea of an opener starting the game can certainly mess with the opposing manager's line up.
  19. Kimbrel is holding up the market.
  20. ^^This. There is really no downside to signing these guys to minor league deals. Sign as many as you reasonably can.
  21. Agreed. The more pitching depth, the better. It would be nice if he had options though.
  22. Dombrowski also said that at some point soon, the Sox will have to reset the penalty. The idea that the Sox will be okay because we have the money to sign whoever we want is not realistic. Of course we could sign or retain anyone we want to. Realistically, it's not happening.
  23. Oh he's spening more money on the bullpen, without a doubt. The way he was talking, though, he won't sign Kimbrel to a 4 or 5 year deal. That said, I'm not sure I believe that.
  24. Your best 3 hitters in terms of OPS or wOBA should bat 1, 2, and 4, with emphasis on OBP in the 1st and 2nd spots and power in 4th spot.
