  1. I was 100% with you last season, and I am 100% with you this season. If ever a team had a legitimate chance to repeat as World Series Champs, this team does.
  2. Despite the opinions of many, IMO, Devers was called up before he was ready. He was thrown into the fire without having the benefit of being able to work through any issues and season himself at the minor league level. We tend to forget how young he is. We've read that he's spending the offseason working with JD Martinez. I am optimistic about his upcoming season.
  3. We're Red Sox fans. We don't temper expectations.
  4. Dombrowski is not finished. He will sign at least one reliever, probably two.
  5. This. Although I do have to point out that Pythagoras has us as a 103 win team, your point stands. There's not a lot that needs to be done, especially when most of the team will be back. Sign a couple of solid relievers and call it a day. Let the other teams worry about improving to our level.
  6. Clay Buccholz!!!
  7. Amen brother Notin. You said this much more concisely than I did.
  8. The catchers are not on my list of concerns for the 2019 season.
  9. Our starters, outside of Porcello, all have some question marks health-wise. As you said, their ability to stay healthy will be the key. If they are healthy, we have one of the best rotations in baseball. I have no doubt that Dombrowski is not finished with our bullpen. Maybe I'm being overly optimistic, but I think Jackie will have a good and more consistent season. I don't think we'll see the long slides that we've seen in the past.
  10. What do the depth signings have to do with whether our team will stink or not? These guys are likely going to be our 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th starters, etc. If we're lucky, which is the hope in signing these guys, one of them will come through for part of the season like Buccholz did last year. If we have that many injuries to our starting pitchers where we're depending on our depth starters to carry us through the season, then you're right, we'll probably wind up in 'the depths'.
  11. David Ortiz. There's the diamond in the rough type player that I'm talking about.
  12. The other thing is, once you draft a player, knowing not to trade said player away. Yes, there was probably some luck in getting Betts. But there was more to it than just luck.
  13. Betts is mostly in a category of his own. I'm not just talking about him, but I'm also talking about any of the home grown starters that we have. Sure, it takes some luck, but it goes back to having a strong farm system. Theo was the king of grabbing those supplementary draft picks from his departing free agents. Maybe some of them didn't amount to anything, but the more you have, the better the chances that a Betts or even a JBJ will emerge. And that also includes not trading away your prospects in mass volume.
  14. IMO, the Yankees will sign him. As Jacko said, Machado wants to play for the Yankees so it would take a lot for other teams to draw him away. If Machado does become a Yankee, it will be interesting to see how Hal responds to questions about his previous comments.
  15. Two things about that: 1. I think it should be trimmed. As I've said, if people have to debate about whether a player should be in the HOF, then he shouldn't be. 2. Some of the players that were not voted in their first year would have been voted in their first year if the players only get one year on the ballot. I really don't understand the point of making a player wait several years to get in if the player is good enough to be in.
  16. Any team who's willing to pay the price can acquire the big boys. It's much more difficult to produce your own superstars or to find the diamonds in the rough. That's all I'm saying.
  17. Personally, I hope not. Get him down to 3 years, then we can talk.
  18. And yet the Sox are still the early WAR leaders, even with our 'sieve in the back end'. As you did last season, keep trying to convince yourself that the Sox aren't going to beat the Yankees.
  19. The Sox were 5 games over their Pythagorean W-L, which had them at 103 wins. The Yankees were 1 game over, which had them at 99 wins. The Astros were 6 games under, which had them at 109 wins. The point being, on paper, the Sox were not the best team last year. The Yankees were the heavy favorite for the division when the season started. The Red Sox will be fine. Back to back to back to back.
  20. Dave is finally starting to pay attention to us.
  21. I always enjoy watching guys like Price, Sale, and JD, and I'm always happy to have them on my team, though I am usually not happy with the cost of acquiring them. With those guys, you know they're going to be stars. But as I've said several times, I am much more impressed by the acquisitions of Pearce, Eovaldi, and Brasier. They might not be the stars, but their contributions to the team are just as important.
  22. Agreed. I guess the question is whether his talent is enough to put up with the antics. Probably at first it will be, but if Machado doesn't outgrow this behavior, I think it will become a problem sooner in the contract rather than later.
  23. I have no problem with Adam Sandler. It's not like I'm a huge fan and go out of my way to see his movies, but the ones I've seen have been enjoyable. So, you're in good company. Dumb people unite! {Fist bump}
  24. If they're not good enough to be 1st ballot HOFers, they're not good enough to be in. One and done, either you're in or you're not.
  25. Machado is a great player. He also carries some baggage with him. I get the impression that he thinks he's bigger than the team. Time will tell whether his attitude will create any clubhouse issues or not. It's also very possible that Machado will mature and outgrow these things. I do not want him on the Red Sox, I know that.
