FTR, I have always thought it was silly to blame Farrell for Wright's injury.

I find it interesting that the Yankees have said that they are unwilling to go 4 years on Eovaldi.

It is possible to have a better balance between short and long term goals. Dombrowski was 'all in' for the short term, with little regard for the long term. It paid off, short term. However, is it possible that we could have won the WS this year without having gone 'all in'? It would not only have been possible, but it would have been probable. So, we only win 99 games in the regular season instead of 108. Who cares?

I don't know, but that doesn't change the fact that most of a 10 year contract for Mookie will be for past prime years.

I would be a lot more impressed with Dombrowski if he had torn the team down, then built it back up from scratch. He didn't. The 'one of the best teams of all time' that he 'created' was already 2/3 created when he arrived in Boston, and the 1/3 that he did 'create' would not have been possible without the strong farm system that he didn't create but did manage to ruin, and without the numerous cost controlled players that were already part of the 2/3 that he didn't create. I'm not impressed with his acquisitions of Price, Sale, and Kimbrel. I am far more impressed by his under the radar moves in 2018.

I'm not advocating trading Mookie, but I think that there is some merit to the idea.

I have no idea what that theoretical trade would be. I don't know other teams' systems well enough to even know where to begin. Even if we couldn't get back the same value that we are getting from Mookie, I think that we could get close enough that it would make sense to make the trade when you factor in the money you'd be saving on Mookie's long term contract. If the Sox don't think there's a reasonable chance of signing Mookie long term, it would make even more sense to trade him for some pretty good value before he walks away as a free agent.

He didn't sell himself short. He just prioritized something over money. It's not like he's going to starve to death on $6 mil. Good for him.

I would prefer to keep our tandem of Vaz and Leon, and use the money saved on pitching. Our position players and line up are fine.
