  1. I could be on board with that.
  2. When the rest of the offense isn't really doing its job either, Jackie becomes the scapegoat.
  3. Dare I say it? That's what the stats are for.
  4. Depends on what he's willing to sign for. I'd offer him a minor league contract. Being as he just opted out of one, I'm not sure he'd be willing to sign another.
  5. Yes, we posters do. It's what we do here.
  6. Yes, which is code for 'panic'.
  7. Chavis might be able to handle the job just fine. I'm not saying he can't.
  8. Unless there is a medical reason why he can no longer be a starter, Eovaldi will not be moved to the BP.
  9. Outside of our BP possibly becoming ineffective due to being overworked early on, our BP has been and will be fine.
  10. So what changed between 2 days ago (Chavis will not be playing 2B) and 1 day ago? Chavis' one good at bat?
  11. Absolutely, a team needs to be balanced. If the other guys hit like they should, there is enough offense on the team to carry JBJ's, Vazquez/Leon's, and even Lin's weak bats. That said, it does come down to who the best overall player at each position is. If Swihart's offense had been so strong that it outweighed the defense of Leon, than as much as I'd hate it, we'd have to go with Swihart.
  12. Cora himself pretty much said that Chavis needs more time in AAA. Maybe not in so many words, that but was clearly his message.
  13. I don't have a problem with Chavis starting at 2B. All I'm saying is that the Red Sox complete about face about Chavis over a couple of days screams panic. I'm not saying it won't work. It could very well be a gold mine move.
  14. Yes, I do agree with this.
  15. I get why he was called up. Hence, I initially recanted my 'panic move' comment. Choosing offense over defense is fine if that is the overall better move for the team, but don't make statements the day before that Chavis will not be playing 2B. To turn right around and contradict your own statement because Chavis has one good at bat comes across as nothing more than desperation.
  16. We'll never know for sure, but IMO, it was the insufficient activity in ST. Regardless, it's good to see the rotation coming into form.
  17. @PeteAbe 4h4 hours ago #RedSox starters first 13 games: 8.79 ERA. #RedSox starters last 9 games: 3.21 ERA.
  18. We have Lin, who would most surely solidify the middle infield defense.
  19. Two days ago, Cora states that Chavis is not ready to play 2B. Yesterday, Cora states that Chavis will not be playing second base. That will be Lin's job until Holt/Nunez return. Chavis will DH, PH, or play 1B or 3B. Later that day, Chavis hits a double which leads to the Red Sox winning the game. Today, Chavis is playing 2B. Panic move.
  20. The Mariners bats came out swinging. Our pitching was not ready for them.
  21. WAR thankfully values defense, as it should.
  22. Actually, I think dudes dig the long ball far more than chicks do!
  23. It seems that there is too much focus on offense, and not enough on defense. I'm not saying you specifically, but that seems to be a too prevalent theme on this forum. That doesn't just apply to to Jackie, but to our catchers as well, and now with Chavis after one at bat. Defense people. Defense.
  24. If Chavis starts today at 2B, then I am re-instating my 'panic move' claim.
