  1. As Merloni said, Chavis might be a good pinch hitting option if we're behind late in a game.
  2. Fangraphs has that stat on its site, and has for several years, though I'm not sure I've seen it displayed on telecasts before. Probably have, just wasn't paying attention. LOL
  3. JD should be batting 4th. Either way, where he is batting is not the problem.
  4. It is most definitely the Yankees' fault. There's no other reasonable explanation.
  5. Calling Chavis up is clearly a panic move, as was calling up Devers a couple of years ago. Devers was not ready to be called up and neither is Chavis. Cora more or less said just yesterday that we would not see Chavis yet. For a team that is 'not concerned' about the slow start, this reeks of desperation. Where is Marco Hernandez anyway?
  6. I know, just responding to a previous post. I still have the Sox penciled in for the playoffs, don't forget.
  7. It's true that some of those guys won't bring back very much. Maybe a contending team has an injury that they need to fill, and a veteran like Moreland would be a nice fit. At any rate, I'd shop them all and see what we could get.
  8. It seems that Cora may have altered the starters' routines this ST, due to the postseason innings last year in addition to his philosophy of bringing the players along slowly. So yes, Porcello knows how to get ready for a season, but they might have done things differently this year under Cora's advice.
  9. Word is he is currently asking for a 1-year deal at a respectable dollar amount. I don't know what kind of money he is looking for. OTOH, Kimbrel is apparently still holding out for at least a 3 year deal. We may very well lose his draft pick.
  10. I don't see it happening, but if the Sox are out of it come late June, then they need to absolutely look into trading players that are not locked up long term, and that includes Mookie.
  11. OK, I had to double check the numbers after this post: Bogaerts batting 2nd: .583 JD batting 3rd: 1.601 Mookie batting 1st or 2nd: .676 Beni batting 1st or 2nd: .812 Moreland batting 3rd: .958 JD having such a great OPS batting 3rd is somewhat going to waste if the guys in front of him are not getting on base.
  12. Oh I'm not trying to pin all of our losses on Mookie. Starting pitching remains the biggest culprit of why our team has performed so badly. That said, our offense hasn't been that great either, and Mookie is supposed to be one of our biggest bats. He will come around. He is suffering from low BABIP syndrome.
  13. Station 13 mojo!!! No time like the present to start our winning streak!
  14. This is our new game plan. We'll just take the night off, and gain a 1/2 game on both the Rays and Yankees.
  15. LOL If I took that bet, that would be like signing the Red Sox death certificate.
  16. It's too bad you can't play the Sox every game.
  17. I feel bad for him too. I have held out optimism for Pedroia's return, but sadly, I think I have to let go of that hope. Pedroia will not doubt go on the IL, and Lin will surely be called up. If nothing else, Lin will shore up the infield defense up the middle.
  18. It doesn't matter where Mookie bats. He needs to get it going soon though. Someone has said many times that this offense goes as Mookie goes. The top of the order needs to get it going.
  19. We will have to just disagree Moon. You aren't going to convince me that he was given a fair chance and that he wasn't jerked around. I know I'm not going to convince you either.
  20. Nice. I didn't see this, so I'm glad you shared.
  21. Agree. I feel like Porcello is underrated because he doesn't have the shining ERA. He has him moments of excellence, along with his very poor starts, but most of the time, he will give the team 6+ innings and keep the team in the game.
  22. When you demote a guy after 8 games one season and try to make him a LFer, then 17 ? games in another season, that is not a fair chance. When a player stays on a roster an entire season and gets almost no playing time, that is not a fair chance. When you say Swihart will focus solely on catching a certain year, then shortly thereafter have him taking reps at different positions, that is not a fair chance.
  23. He did do an admirable job for a catcher who was nowhere ready for such a large role on a major league team. Truth be told, I wasn't even talking about offense at all. A catcher's offense means very little to me.
  24. Well I happen to agree with Dombrowski on prioritizing other areas to spend on besides the bullpen. I have always felt it unwise to give huge contracts to relievers and spend big on the pen. I applaud him on his BP strategy this year. It's okay that you disagree with his priorities. Most people do. But again, my point is that we didn't stand pat. We made improvements, just not in the areas that you would prefer.
