  1. The way baseball works, if Sale faced your real lineup, he probably would have pitched a complete game shutout.
  2. The Sox will be playing October baseball.
  3. His stuff was there last night, his location was not. That at least sounds like he's moving in the right direction. If I'm not mistaken, Sale ranks dead last in swings and misses on his fastball this season.
  4. Who are these imposters disguised as the 2019 Boston Red Sox? They aren't just losing, but they're losing bad. Three of their wins have only been by one run, but when they lose, they're mostly getting blown out. I am so over this team right now. Pathetic bunch of bums playing with no life.
  5. Now see, you just blew the whole game thread system out of the water. Who starts tonight's game thread? Technically, you can't, because the Red Sox lost. OTOH, your team won, so does that mean you get to start the next game thread? These are the things that keep me awake at night.
  6. Randy Johnson and Bryan Johnson
  7. Maybe we should call some of these tater hitting prospects up. Our team could use some taters.
  8. I did not agree with that argument either.
  9. As I said in other posts, Swihart is not the reason that Sale and the rest of the rotation have pitched poorly. However, I do think that Leon makes a difference. Do you not think that that a pitcher having confidence in and comfort with a catcher affects the way he pitches?
  10. Cora said today that he will not be flip flopping Beni and Betts anymore. Once Beni returns, he will be in the leadoff spot permanently.
  11. This is true. Leon is not going to be the savior to our season. The Sox were going to improve either way. But I do think he will help.
  12. Fair point. I had forgotten that he just lost his brother, and I'm sure that had something to do with the decision.
  13. It's almost like you're hoping Sale gets rocked, just so you can say "I told you so."
  14. And the Sox learned this after 17 games in 2019 when they didn't know this after all of his previous seasons with the Sox? The Sox screwed up in choosing Swihart over Leon to begin with. Now they are being very reactionary in DFAing him.
  15. I am a Leon fan, and 100% believe in his intangibles with handling a pitching staff. That said, I agree that this is a panic move.
  16. I don't think any of the pitchers have been whining. I really don't. I just think that the team felt like something needed to be done, and Swihart ended up being the scapegoat.
  17. It is not Blake's fault that our starting pitching has been so bad. However, if it helps the pitchers' confidence and comfort level, I'm all for bringing Leon back. I just don't like the way the Sox have handled Swihart over his career. It appears that Cora has spoken.
  18. I will be very surprised if he is not claimed.
  19. They should never have messed with Leon/Vaz to begin with. That said, this is a panic move all the way. Mirabelli 2.0 . Swihart was never really given a fair chance. The Sox have mishandled Swihart big time. I hate to see him go, but I hope that he gets the chance to play regularly for another team.
  20. I will be very surprised if he is not claimed.
  21. I am more of a Sesame Street type person. Bert Blyleven and Ernie Banks
  22. I was just reading an interview with Leon on WEEI in which Leon talks about how he calls a game. One of the things that made Varitek so good, IMO, was his ability to adjust on the fly when needed, rather than just sticking with the game plan and scouting reports. Leon talks about that same ability. I think that too often, some catchers will stick to the pre-determined game plan, even when it's not working. The ability to know when to make adjustments and what adjustments to make is a skill that not only takes time, but it also takes baseball smarts and keen observation.
  23. Cora was criticized quite a bit last season for the same things, resting or 'babying' our players. He stuck to his guns, and his philosophy paid off beautifully. Things look bad right now, but it is too soon to know how things are going to turn out. As you said before, Cora has earned a pass based on what he did last year. In Cora We Trust.
  24. I'm sure the team's extremely poor start is a combination of several things that have unfortunately come together to impact the team negatively. Lack of preparation in ST, playing with a sense of complacency, the brutal west coast schedule to start the season, and Leongate have already been mentioned many times. Another factor is just plain, good old randomness or luck, as is suggested by the following stats, courtesy of my man RedSoxStats: Compared to last April the Sox are striking out, walking and hitting home runs at an identical pace. Their barrel or solid contact was 15.1% and it's 15.5% now. Their doubles are WAY down. Their BABIP was .316, it's currently .272. 2018: 17 games, 5 HR allowed on mid-mid pitches 2019: 17 games, 16 HR allowed on mid-mid pitches Last year, lady luck was on our side to open the season. This year, not so much.
  25. I'm guessing the fact that Vazquez caught the previous 3 days in a row, and this was an early morning start, had something to do with that decision as well.
