  1. I think there is an added pressure or expectation to batting leadoff that would give some players a fit if they found themselves batting first.
  2. Well that's because managers have traditionally been putting the wrong guys in the #2 hole. The trend is changing. You will soon be able to recall great #2 hitters, just as you can recall great clean up hitters.
  3. Cora is calling the in game shots, I can almost guarantee that. And he is a big fan of analytics. That's why he is the man.
  4. Please do. She needs to come back!
  5. It's the hair, or lack thereof. He needs to grow the hair back.
  6. Sale is a great pitcher in his own right, but Leon makes him even better.
  7. With all that evidence, I really don't know how anyone can dispute how bad he was defensively. He made up for it with his offense, so I guess people think he wasn't that bad defensively, but he was that bad. And the worst part about it, they kept handing him the Gold Glove.
  8. 100% yes.
  9. FOM, as we like to affectionately refer to them. Personally, I like d-money.
  10. Red Sox Notes‏ @SoxNotes 19m19 minutes ago Red Sox since being swept by the Tigers in a doubleheader on Apr. 23: .765 win % (13-4, T-1st in MLB) 121 runs scored (1st in MLB) .283 AVG (1st in MLB) .383 OBP (1st in MLB) 95 BB (1st in MLB) 2.74 ERA (1st in AL) .190 opponent AVG (1st in MLB) .586 opponent OPS (1st in MLB) We have also had the best run differential in MLB at +69 since April 17th, per Bob Nightengale. It's the other teams that should be worried.
  11. Not true. I would take a well-pitched, well-defended, 1-0 game any day of the week over a 11-10 slugfest.
  12. LOL Sandy Leon joined the team, the team started winning. What other stats do you need? My comment was mostly tongue in cheek. The Sox were going to start playing much better and winning regardless of whether Leon joined the team or not. That said, I absolutely do think that Leon makes a fairly significant difference.
  13. I have nothing against Seattle, except for when they're playing us. I do feel bad for most teams when they're struggling.
  14. I'm still holding out hope for both Brewer and Thornburg. Also, our pen is currently ranked 9th overall in MLB. Last year, we were 12th.
  15. The Sox did not prioritize a backup 1B over the pen. They prioritized spending on a backup 1B over spending on the pen. There's a difference. Also, it's the correct prioritization.
  16. Shortly after playing us, Seattle took a nose dive. As the saying goes, it's not who you play, it's when you play them.
  17. Poor guy cannot get a break.
  18. The Red Sox started turning it around at the same time that Leon joined the team. Coincidence? I think not!
  19. Seattle needed that payback. Bigly.
  20. I'm wondering how this turned into a basketball thread. And it's not even about the Celtics!
  21. I completely agree about Moreland. I like both his original signing and his re-signing. Then again, I really like the Pearce re-signing too.
  22. I am 100% on board with Dombrowski's BP strategy this offseason. IMO, he deserves a lot of credit for the moves he has made the past 2 years.
  23. 'You get what you pay for' might be true with position players or starting pitchers, but it's not the case with relievers.
  24. Bunting for a hit, okay. Sac bunting in the 6th inning, no. Just NO. Play for the big inning. That said, having Jackie sac bunt there in hopes of maybe getting him going somehow might be a different story.
  25. Relatively good health is always a key factor.
