  1. It was reporters. I don't know whether Cora ever asked him to move, but I'm sure there was discussion about it. At any rate, I don't think that insinuating that you're not willing to move is the appropriate response regardless of whether you're asked by reporters or by the manager.
  2. I was a big Devers fan, and I was happy to have him on our team while he was here, even after the controversy. I wasn't happy that he didn't have a team-first attitude. Had he stayed on the team, however, I would have happily rooted for him. The fact that Breslow felt the need to trade him, despite him being one of the best hitters in baseball, told me what I needed to know. When Devers told the Giants that he would play wherever they needed him to play, that sealed the deal for me.
  3. I was not happy with Bogaerts when his reply to moving to 3B (or 2B) was very similar to Devers' reply to moving to DH. Bogaerts reluctance to move to another position happened twice, once when Stephen Drew was signed, then again with Story's signing. IMO, the response when asked if you would be willing to move to a different position should always be "whatever the team needs me to do."
  4. We'll have no way of ever knowing, but I'm not sure that the team with Devers at DH would have been better than the team with no Devers. We might still be playing now, but we might just as easily not have made the playoffs. On paper, sure, Devers made the team better offensively. But I don't think you can discount the impact of the trade on the atmosphere inside the clubhouse.
  5. I blame Devers for selling out his teammates. That was wrong, regardless of the circumstances leading up to it. I am happy with the direction the team has taken also. Even if there had been no controversy, I am relieved to be rid of Devers' contract. Let's see if the FO makes good on its word to "repurpose" some of that money, beyond extending some of their young players.
  6. Anyone but the Yankees. After that, anyone but the Dodgers, which is sad, because individually, I really like 95% of their team. I hope the Blue Jays finish off the Yankees tonight. Don't prolong my agony.
  7. Cora and Breslow are definitely partially to blame for the Devers situation. Better communication up front would have helped to avoid any such situation. I'm of the opinion that if a player, no matter how big a superstar he is, refuses to do what the manager or the team asks him to do, then he can ride the bench. Easier said than done, I'm sure. Devers acted selfish and childish, but Cora allowed it to happen. Anyway, I'm pleased with the jobs that both Cora and Breslow have done overall.
  8. For the postseason, you can pretty much throw away anything that happened during the regular season. In a short series, anything can happen. To state the obvious, it would be huge if we can win Game 1.
  9. This is my kind of post Worsley. I still have concerns about the inconsistency of our offense, but I love the positive post!
  10. Not to mention how well Cora managed the clubhouse full of young players, especially with all the controversy surrounding Devers, both when he was with the team and after he was traded. Such is the life of an MLB manager. They are going to take a lot of criticism, most of which is unwarranted, even when things are going well. Same goes for the GM.
  11. We don't know what the "elbow issue" is yet, but I'm guessing it's not good news, and Gioloto could likely need some more surgery. If by chance it is a minor issue, I'd take a chance on picking up his option.
  12. I agree that 2004 took a lot of the pressure off. I'm still nervous as heck though. I have a hard time getting through regular season series against the Yankees, much less postseason series. It's all good though. It's been a fun season, either way.
  13. I'm nervous as heck. The hope (obviously) is that Crochet and Bello wrap this up in two. My hope is also that we'll have such big leads in the games that Chapman is not needed for any saves.
  14. Good stuff Notin. The Yankees made the mistake of relying on another team to take care of the Yankees' business for them. That's on the Yankees, not anyone else. I understand wanting to rest players, but you have to weigh which is more important, rested players or home field advantage. The Blue Jays started Gausman yesterday in a successful attempt to win the division, rather than holding him out for a possible wildcard game.
  15. The nerves are running high. As you said, it'll be a grind to get through watching even one game. There's no better postseason feeling than eliminating the Yankees en route to a title. On the flip side, there's no worse feeling than being eliminated by them.
  16. The more I think about it, the more I think that Narvaez is the team MVP. He's not our best player, but with the work he's done behind the plate and with our pitching staff, he has certainly been extremely valuable.
  17. LOL Fair point. I just hate when the baseball season ends. The ending would be 100 times better if the Red Sox win the World Series!
  18. I have a soft spot in my heart for Francona, so I've watched the Reds quite a bit this year. They are the NL team that I'll be rooting for all the way. I'd love to see them take down the Dodgers. They have the starting pitching to do it.
  19. As I said, I hope that teams are not purposely throwing games. But, we have no way of knowing for sure. I'm not unhappy about the Astros missing the playoffs.
  20. I don't think starting DeLeon was an attempt to lose the game. It sounds like this is the guy who Cora thought could give him the most length. Cora took him out of the game at the appropriate time and, IMO, managed the game to win.
  21. I went back and forth on this several times throughout the game. I would have preferred not to play the Yankees in the first round. However, I really could not pull for the Red Sox to lose, nor could I pull for the Yankees to win the division. I hate to think of any team trying to lose a game on purpose for whatever reason. Ideally, everyone plays their best baseball and let the chips fall where they may. I understand resting players and not having your strongest team out there. but beyond that, teams should be trying their best to win.
  22. My Yankees-fan friend (oxymoron?) swears that the Rays tanked their final series against the Jays.
  23. I was thinking the same thing. Rock climbing would be far too risky. It seems like there should be some type of exercise or strengthening activity that mimics rock climbing closely enough to have the same potential benefits, without the risks.
  24. I didn't get to watch this game live, thanks to stupid Apple TV. I watched it the next morning, having already known what happened. Rafaela's walk off triple brought tears to my eyes. IMO, there should be nothing but joy for the players on this team. They played their hearts out.
