  1. The inconsistent offense is my biggest concern. It's nice to see how much of a strength our bullpen has become. Chapman is getting a lot of praise, and rightly so, but Whitlock has also been money.
  2. It was a legitimate concern because who really knew how he would respond to the workload? Thankfully, he looks really strong.
  3. I wouldn't mind AZ either, but the Reds are my first choice.
  4. It's amazing how quickly things can change in baseball. One week can make a world of difference. That's why it always surprises me when people start counting the Red Sox out at the end of May. It's also amazing how many division leaders have blown big leads this season. The beauty of baseball.
  5. Just wanted to give a tip of the cap to Mr. Crochet. He showed no signs of being worn out from the additional workload in innings this year.
  6. I'm pulling for the Reds.
  7. Magic number is down to 1 !
  8. I currently no longer care who wins the Detroit-Cleveland series. I just want Houston to lose now. Or more ideally, the Red Sox to win. Frankly, of all the AL teams still in the hunt, Houston is the team that I hope is the odd man out.
  9. Yeah, I get it. Personally, I have no issues with baseball going into November, but I get it. Elimination games are typically a lot of fun, as is playoff baseball in general. These last couple of weeks have been a lot of fun, though at times, very stressful. I'm just glad that we're playing meaningful baseball going into the last series of the season.
  10. Winning the first two in Toronto has done wonders for my nerves. We're not out of the woods yet, but I'm feeling a lot better about getting there. We could clinch tonight. The Blue Jays' juggernaut offense has suddenly hit a brick wall, scoring 0 or 1 run in the 6 of the last 7 games. It would be awesome to sweep them in their home ballpark. Also, we still have an outside shot at winning the division! (Yes, I know it's a very slim shot, but it's a shot nonetheless.) Come on White Sox, help us out here... I hate that we're helping the Yankees regain the lead in the division, but oh well. We'll worry about the Yankees later. Let's go!
  11. Fair enough. I don't disagree that subtracting Devers' bat was huge. I think the hope was that Anthony, Mayer, and maybe Yoshida could make up for some of the offense, which Anthony did pretty well until he got injured. All that said, I am not upset with how Breslow handled the deadline.
  12. Like you, I was pleased with our pitching depth going into the season. It's amazing how quickly injuries can derail that. Breslow has made some mistakes, as all GMs do, but I'm happy with what he's done overall. As Bellhorn said, though, he needs to stop trading away starting pitchers.
  13. I agree. There should be a 1-game playoff game. Will one additional game/day really make that much of a difference to the teams who have byes in the first round? The other thing I don't like, which others have mentioned, is all three games in the first series being played at the higher seed's home park. That said, I don't know what the solution is that is going to appease everyone.
  14. I do not disagree with any of this 5GG. It's going to be very difficult to win the series against the Jays, in Toronto, no less. That said, I remain hopeful, as always. I'm sure I speak for most if not all of us when say I'd rather take care of the wins sooner rather than later. I really don't want to see it come down to us having to win the last 2 games to get in.
  15. The second tiebreaker is the record within the division. The Sox hold a slight edge over Detroit (1 game?) at the moment, but with both teams playing within the division this next series, that could change. At any rate, it would be pretty hard for us to sweep the Tigers. I'm pulling for the Cleveland and Houston to lose.
  16. It's amazing how far Detroit has fallen. On July 8, they had a 14 game lead on the division and were, IMO, the best team in baseball. Now, they might not even make the playoffs.
  17. I won't give up on catching the Yankees until the math says that I have to, but they play the White Sox and the Orioles, so I'm not seeing a lot of help there. The Os could win a couple of games for us, but I'm not sure that the White Sox can muster even one win. As I've said, I really don't like having to rely on other teams to win (or lose) games for us. We just have to take care of our own business.
  18. Oh goody.
  19. I was more concerned about adding pitching at the deadline. We got May, which didn't pan out. I think the other pieces were just too expensive. There's always seemingly more that a GM could have done, but the cost is often prohibitive. I don't think it's from lack of trying.
  20. It's frustrating to have so many LOBs, but as you said, it means we're getting a lot of runners on base. That's actually a good sign. It would be nice if we could at least put the ball in play when needed. That might not always result in a run, but striking out certainly isn't going to get it done.
  21. We are 1 game up on CLE and HOU, but we own the tiebreaker against them both, so it's essentially 2 games. We probably would not win the tiebreaker over DET unless we sweep them, and even then, it's iffy. We need DET to win against CLE, but to (obviously) lose against us. We really need to win at least 2 against TOR, which might be handing the Yankees the division, but so be it, And also win at least 2 against DET. This stuff makes my head hurt!
  22. And they still have a -9 run differential. Yet they just keep winning and are 12 games over .500.
  23. Agreed. I'd like them both back next year, though I'm still against extending Bregman for more than an additional year. Ideally, he'll choose not to opt out. Also ideally, Gio will give us a break and pick up the mutual option.
  24. I would not have traded Sale to get him, but I thought Grissom could end up being our long-term 2nd baseman, . I really am puzzled by what happened to Grissom in our system. At any rate, it ended up being a really bad trade.
