  1. I won't give up on catching the Yankees until the math says that I have to, but they play the White Sox and the Orioles, so I'm not seeing a lot of help there. The Os could win a couple of games for us, but I'm not sure that the White Sox can muster even one win. As I've said, I really don't like having to rely on other teams to win (or lose) games for us. We just have to take care of our own business.
  2. Oh goody.
  3. I was more concerned about adding pitching at the deadline. We got May, which didn't pan out. I think the other pieces were just too expensive. There's always seemingly more that a GM could have done, but the cost is often prohibitive. I don't think it's from lack of trying.
  4. It's frustrating to have so many LOBs, but as you said, it means we're getting a lot of runners on base. That's actually a good sign. It would be nice if we could at least put the ball in play when needed. That might not always result in a run, but striking out certainly isn't going to get it done.
  5. We are 1 game up on CLE and HOU, but we own the tiebreaker against them both, so it's essentially 2 games. We probably would not win the tiebreaker over DET unless we sweep them, and even then, it's iffy. We need DET to win against CLE, but to (obviously) lose against us. We really need to win at least 2 against TOR, which might be handing the Yankees the division, but so be it, And also win at least 2 against DET. This stuff makes my head hurt!
  6. And they still have a -9 run differential. Yet they just keep winning and are 12 games over .500.
  7. Agreed. I'd like them both back next year, though I'm still against extending Bregman for more than an additional year. Ideally, he'll choose not to opt out. Also ideally, Gio will give us a break and pick up the mutual option.
  8. I would not have traded Sale to get him, but I thought Grissom could end up being our long-term 2nd baseman, . I really am puzzled by what happened to Grissom in our system. At any rate, it ended up being a really bad trade.
  9. I'm almost never a fan of trading away starting pitching for a position player.
  10. If the Sox miss the playoffs, Breslow will surely receive a lot of criticism, though IMO, it would be unwarranted. I'm not sure what else he might have done to bolster the offense besides maybe adding some depth pieces. We lost 3 lefty bats in Mayer, Abreu, and Anthony. That would be difficult for any team to overcome.
  11. Limping into the postseason sums it up pretty well. The good news is, we are still in control of our destiny. The bad news is, our remaining 5 games are no cake walk.
  12. Absolutely, we need to get a run there, regardless of the bad ball/strike call. It seems like oftentimes when we fail to score a run in a situation like that, the opposing team comes back in the next half inning and scores very quickly. Interestingly, in recent weeks, I have watched several teams fail to score in similar situations, so it's not just the Red Sox. Do we do it more often than other teams? Probably.
  13. Oddly enough, I am not. However, I prefer the 2 challenges per game over an automated system calling all the balls and strikes.
  14. Dear Red Sox, I am starting to get a knot in the pit of my stomach. Don't do this to me! Just WIN!
  15. The Jays have surprised me. I didn't think they would be able to pull out a probable division win.
  16. Our offense is so maddening at times. How can you not score at least one run when you have bases loaded and no outs? I would like to point out how one bad strike/ball call potentially changed the outcome of that game in a big way. In the second inning with bases loaded, Rafaela had a 2-0 count in his favor. Pitch #3 to him was clearly Ball 3. The ump called it a strike. If the count had gone to 3-0 like it should have instead of 2-1, the entire trajectory of that game might have been different.
  17. They need to start losing. They're making me nervous.
  18. I've said it before, but how is Cleveland even in this wildcard picture with a -31 run differential. They should be 71 - 78 instead of 78 - 71.
  19. Woot! Let's hope MN can win another. The Rays had a very good chance of beating the Jays, both in the bottom of the 10th and the bottom of the 11th. Unfortunately, the Rays could not get a run home from 3rd base with less than 2 outs. Oh well, it would have taken a near miracle for us to overtake them.
  20. Yeah, the Rangers and the Guardians are really getting on my nerves right now.
  21. Let's hope the Twins can do something against the Yankees. We still have a very outside chance of winning division, only because we still have 3 games remaining against the Jays. We are going to need a lot of help though, and like I just posted, I don't like having to rely on other teams to win. They inevitably will let me down. Full steam ahead for the Red Sox.
  22. Yes. The Red Sox have to take care of their own business. These 3 teams beating up on each other does us no good if the Sox can't win their own games. I hate having to depend on what another team does to make it into the playoffs. Fortunately, the Sox don't have to do that if they win their games.
  23. Off days are at least a lot easier to take when we're coming off a win. Thank goodness the Sox won and the Rangers lost yesterday. I needed that. I don't think the Twins have it in them to beat the Yankees.
