    I don't have time to read through all of the threads, so this is the first post I've seen of yours. Good to see you JoeyB. I am okay with Mayer at 3B. I'm also okay with Casas at 1B, and maybe even Campbell at 2B. That would be my dream scenario if they all worked out, but that's a big if. Regardless of what the Red Sox decide to do, they need to have better back up plans than they did this year.

    The saving grace of Bregman's contract was that it was only for 3 years. Even with that, the $40M a year was a gross overpay. I would like to have Bregman back, but I agree that offering him any larger/longer of a contract than he already had with the Red Sox would not be a good idea. I guess we'll have to watch him play for another team next year.

    The only real concern regarding our catching position is the lack of depth. I am more than fine with our duo of Narvaez and Wong, more because of the work that they do behind the plate than for their offense. Even if Narvaez slips some offensively, I'll take him for the work that he does with the pitching staff. Like you said, just sign a capable catcher to a minor league deal, and focus your attention on other areas of need.

    I very much enjoyed the Brewers/Dodgers game, despite the Dodgers winning.

    Well, I would imagine if a team asked a player not to play, there would be good reason for it. It would then be on the player to work his way back into the lineup.

    I'm hoping for Mariners-Brewers also, but don't really care who wins it past that. Just get the Dodgers out and I'll be good with any of the remaining teams, even the Blue Jays.

    Personally, I miss the 15+ inning marathons. I wouldn't want to watch one every night, but every now and then, I find them very entertaining. I would do away with the ghost runner altogether. I felt bad for the Tigers, but such is the nature of sports. Only one team can win.

    I am not a hockey fan, mostly because I've just never taken the time to watch much of it, but I've read that it is the second most random sport behind baseball. Maybe I'll have to take it up as a winter sport. In the NBA, the better team wins a playoff series 80% of the time. In the MLB, series would have to be 75 games long in order to achieve that same percentage. In the NHL, the series would have to be 61 games long.

    In the last week before the playoffs, the Red Sox took 2 of 3 from the Blue Jays in Toronto. Then the Yankees took 2 of 3 from the Red Sox in the wildcard round. Then, the Blue Jays took 3 of 4 from the Yankees. Not to mention we dominated the Yankees in the regular season. I don't think we were overmatched in the wildcard round. I don't think it was the lack of a big bat. It's just one of those things that happens in any short series.

    I've seen reports that Breslow asked him to play 1B, and Devers said no.

    Amen. Jeter should have moved to 3B for ARod. Set your ego aside and do what's best for the team.

    I remember that not too long before Casas injured himself, I made a post about how I didn't like that the big guys (Devers and Casas) could get away with not running hard down to first base every time. (Verdugo was benched for it, if I'm not mistaken.) Well, now we know why they don't run hard.

    We'll have to agree to disagree, on both counts. I understand that players want to stay at their current positions. I get that completely. However, I don't think I'll ever agree with a player not being willing to do whatever the team needs him to do.

    It's the beauty of the game and one of the many reasons that I love this sport so much.

    Cashman is a much better GM than most people give him credit for. I think he was often pressured by Levine to make some moves that he didn't want to make. He should be left alone to do his thing. That said, perhaps just having a fresh view would do the Yankees some good. Cashman has been there a long time.

    Deferred money or not, Bregman is getting a lot of money per year from the Red Sox. Some team will probably offer him a crazy contract, because that's the point that we have reached. I want him to remain with the team, but I'm not willing to give him more than one additional year. I keep hoping, unrealistically I'm sure, that these guys love us so much that they'll take a little less money to stay in Boston. Sadly, in most cases, it's all about the money.

    Woot! That was priority #1 besides the Red Sox winning. Now someone needs to knock out the Dodgers. It seems like the Phillies should be able to do it, but their bats went somewhat silent the first two games.

    Sounds like a good checklist to me. Even though we have a lot of starting pitching depth, and a lot of potential, starting pitching is still my priority.

    I can't imagine that he's opting out. He had a terrific first half but not so much with the second half. And Fenway is tailor made for him. I'm sure he's looking for more guaranteed years, but $40M/year for 2 more years is a lot of money. How much can he realistically get as a free agent? I hope that if his contract is restructured, the Red Sox don't go beyond one additional year.

    Ugh. I don't like giving the Yankees any inkling that they have a chance to come back and win. If this goes to Game 5, I think the Blue Jays are toast, despite the fact that they'll be back in Toronto.

    100%. I'm not looking to sign another huge contract player like Devers, but one can get some good quality players on smaller contracts with that kind of money.

    Breslow was definitely at fault as well.

    The players didn't openly complain. I think there was some tension inside the clubhouse, or some discomfort, at the very least.
