  1. The problem is, he's also more likely to hit when there are 0 outs.
  2. That's the biggest thing about batting someone first - the # of PAs he will get versus the batters in the other slot. I can defend most line up changes that managers make, but this one is difficult for me to defend. Especially from a manager like Cora.
  3. So of course Kike has a very good 2 games leading off and the Sox offense explodes. LOL SSS alert!
  4. JD is such a professional hitter that I can't see him not rebounding this year. I am comfortable letting him bat 4th. I think our offense will be very good. Our defense is another story. The closer we get to Opening Day, the more excited I get about this team.
  5. Competing with the Jays.
  6. I will say that the offseason after 2012 was one of my favorite offseasons.
  7. This is not a weird decision. This is a pretty egregious error. That said, batting order really does not make that much of a difference. Still.... I have Kike batting 8th or 9th.
  8. Trust me, it's not something I like to say.
  9. I think more highly of Kike than I think most posters here do. Even those who are not big into stats, however, are on board with the notion that a leadoff hitter has to have the ability to get on base at a good clip. His speed and energy aren't going to do the line up any good if he's making outs.
  10. Defense is my biggest concern at this point. I am hoping that at the very least, Cora can work his magic with Devers. To me, Devers looked defeated last year.
  11. I did not see the game. I am just commenting about things I've read. I haven't had a chance to watch a ST game yet.
  12. Kike should not be leading off, unless Cora knows some magic formula to vastly improve his OBP.
  13. Also, I'm reading that Cora is toying around with the idea of Kike batting leadoff. Despite the career OBP of .313 (.270 last year), Cora reportedly like Kike's speed and energy at the top of the order. I may have to disown Cora as my manager.
  14. For a team that is prioritizing defense, they sure are making an awful lot of errors so far.
  15. I could live with that.
  16. The overkill started with Kimbral. When we traded for Sale, I posted that I thought that was an overkill type of move.
  17. The Jays do have a habit of fading down the stretch when they get off to a strong start.
  18. The Jays probably have a slight advantage over us, but it's not like they are going to be light years better than us. It will be an interesting race.
  19. No to Devers batting 3rd, although it doesn't really make that much of a difference.
  20. Before Beni was traded, I had a lineup as follows: Verdugo Bogaerts Beni JD Devers Renfroe Dalbec Vazquez Kike I am not sure who I would bat 3rd now. I'll have to investigate a little more. That said, I would feel comfortable switching #1, 2, 4, 5 in pretty much any order, though I don't think JD felt comfortable batting 2nd last year. I would also be good switching 5-9 in pretty much any order.
  21. Ah, this it the way to do it. Quote the post in your signature so that when the time comes, you don't have to search through a bunch of history to throw said post back in someone's face. LOL Jacko should take notes on this.
  22. I don't disagree with any of this Nick. I think it's a good idea to extend players who are in their arb eligible years, but that type of deal has to benefit both the team and the player. And the player has to be willing to do it. While I am not on board with Tatis' 14 year deal, I like his extension a lot more than I like Mookie's deal with the Dodgers. And if you know that it's very unlikely that you'll be able to extend a player, then you have to be willing to let him go, as much as it might hurt.
  23. Actually, it's because I'm a strong believer in the 'crap shoot' playoff theory that I don't think overkill is a good idea. Build a team to win in the regular season. Don't focus on trying to put the team over the top in the playoffs. I like what Bloom has done so far as well. It will be a while before the final verdict will be out on him.
  24. I have never blamed Dombrowski for our lace of success in 2019.
