  1. Yes, as much as I like the Ranger signing in a vacuum, I wish we'd spent it on the offence. Actually, I wish we'd signed Ranger and not traded for Gray and spent that on the offence.
  2. We'll trade money in the deal, too, which can be used on the pen.
  3. I don't disagree, but almost all the strength was on the offence side of things. It needed correcting - they may have gone too far, we'll see. This years draft - the same happens, we have a problem.
  4. I'm not sure it's right to say they've moved away from it. We'll know more the way they approach this years' draft, but they may have overcorrected. The system badly needed pitching, and pitching is the most valuable commodity, especially in trades, so I get that they moved more towards that, but they also need to replenish the offence side of things now, too.
  5. Yeah, it's a big upgrade if we get the 2nd baseman we're looking for. But we have to do that.
  6. They have to. If he's a bench piece it's good business as he covers SS for Story (as well as 3rd and 2nd). If he is the starting 2nd baseman, man, it's a terrible move.
  7. *groan* This better be a depth piece rather than our starting 2nd baseman.
  8. On the 2nd of May Casas blew out his knee and Devers refused to play 1st. He wasn't going to play anywhere other than DH at that point. That doesn't mean he wouldn't have been back on 3rd earlier if Bregman got hurt. That said, the man-child may have refused and thrown his teammates under the bus then, too.
  9. The Atheltics would want a crazy package for him. And we'd still be stuck with a DH sitting there on $18m a year. It's just not realistic.
  10. Hmm...I mean it's hardly ideal, but keeps Rafaela in CF, allows Masa, and Casas eventually, to share the DH. Unlocks the roster somewhat. It would be last resort stuff, but the more the off season goes on the more we're edging towards this sort of thing. And I preach patience through the off season, normally. That said we'd still be very left handed.
  11. Were we ever there to circle back? I think the chance of us trading for a 32 year old on $32.5m a year for the next 6 seasons is zero.
  12. As a back up to the back up to the back up, what was Duran like as a 2nd baseman back in the day? Is there any data about whether he was even decent at 2nd?
  13. Do you think you might be taking this 'put your glove away' a bit too literally? If Bregman blew out his knee in April, Raffy would have been back as the starting 3rd baseman.
  14. This is where I am, too. I understand his value at CF, but Duran is not a huge step down and we wouldn't have to trade one of our outfielders. That said, it would be my fall back option. I'd rather we just went and got the player we need in a trade.
  15. This is absolutely rational and will fall on deaf ears. I look forward to doing this all again in 5 weeks.
  16. I said you may as well argue with flat earthers, you know, as in they're more likely to change their mind. The key to figuring this out was that my first sentence said Devers defenders are locked in and never changing theirs. If you want to perceive this as comparing your argument to the flat earth argument, well, you do you, I guess.
  17. We can agree there. Cora and the FO should have done a MUCH better job. After that, it's petulance of the highest order and throwing teammates under the bus. I blame both. I just hate Devers' actions. Hate them.
  18. Here they come, defensive, and ready to burn the world down! Relax fellas I was just needling you. Though, I don't know ANYONE that sees it as black and white as it being only Devers fault and that's that. So you can set fire to the strawman instead if you like.
  19. You're never going to change their minds. They're locked in for life. You may as well go and argue with flat earthers.
  20. More going on than we thought.
  21. Donovan just doesn't make sense to me as leftie.
  22. I'm good with Coulombe. Renfigo less so, but he had a decent '23 and '24. Possibility of going one year deal, too.
  23. And even more so with a poor health record. HIs defence is definitely up to muster. Hopefully he can hit and stay healthy. I have worries over both, but I do like the kid and his attitude.
  24. Sandalin was who I was thinking they'd need to attach to get rid of Hicks. I can't say I know anything about the prospect coming back, but pretty good reports online. Surely, at least one of those 40 places is going to be spent on a bull pen arm.
  25. "Cloud cuckoo land" describes a state of fantastical, absurd, or unrealistic thinking, often used in the phrase "living in cloud cuckoo land" to describe someone detached from reality, overly optimistic, or naïve. On the minuscule chance it comes up in a US based trivia night. One of many phrases I routinely mention Stateside that leaves the locals in a state of utter bedazzlement. That's probably wishful thinking - bewildered is likely more fitting.
