  1. Unless we trade Duran for Paredes and a bull pen arm/top prospect and start Mayer in AAA. But yes, I agree, we're set now, while still trying to move Masa if something comes up.
  2. I feel the opposite. Romy is great against Lefties. Matches up nicely with Mayer. Assuming health, of course.
  3. Not for me. Keep him developing his arsenal and bring up to be (hopefully) eventually a top end starter.
  4. "The Red Sox have a policy of not doing this." "But they did this..." "I didn't say never!" And rinse and repeat.
  5. Not loving IKF as our starting 2nd baseman, but yeah, I've no problem with Mayer starting in AAA. He has a lot to prove right now. But this is almost certainly the starting lineup with 2nd up for grabs.
  6. I didn't buy a word they said on Masa playing outfield. It seemed designed to say - hey look everyone, he is worth something, honestly. If he gets 5 games in the field, I'd be genuinely stunned, or sad because someone died.
  7. Yeah, I think this year is going to be heavy platoon however (assuming he makes the team). Then given the full runway next year if he proves to be healthy and good this year.
  8. I don't see any evidence of that. I don't think anyone wants Masa in the field, outside of Masa himself.
  9. He looked lost in every way at that stage of his career. His one full year in CF he looked very good, with the odd weird decision. He did not look good in Left at all. I sure trust him the least out of all the outfielders (Masa excluded).
  10. I reckon it's for the same reason Durbin will be at 3rd - Romy. He's going to be the platoon for Mayer when he's healthy, and rather than move Story back to SS when Romy comes in for Mayer (Romy will have to play 2nd), they just live with Story's D for one more year (which isn't terrible) and not move parts around continuously to manage Mayer. If Mayer proves he can stay healthy and move on from platoon status they make the switch next year.
  11. I think an extended lockout is all but a guarantee at this point. This has been building since about 20 minutes after the previous collective bargain. I'd go as far as saying I'd be quite surprised if we don't lose at least a quarter of the season. I imagine quite a few of the owners are hopeful the Dodgers win again this year, so they can further hold them up as the reason why a cap is needed.
  12. I don't do that deal either. I'd have done Mayer and Harrison, but no more. The Marte contract is good but we were getting the lesser years of him. I've no problem the Red Sox telling them to go away when asking for both Mayer and Tolle/Early.
  13. I think there is still enough speed in the team that if we got a power bat in for Duran it would lead to a nicely balanced attack. Whether that player is available is another thing. The answer seems to be no right now.
  14. Agreed. He seemed far more comfortable in CF than LF where he looked lost on times. He's great cover, which is what you want from your DH/4th outfielder I guess.
  15. Cedanne's numbers would have to crater. The best alignment by far is - Anthony in LF, Raf in CF, Abreu in RF, and Duran at DH. You are elite defensively, and have all manner of threat from the four of them offensively. I'm not one who thinks we should trade Duran for prospects. But he is the DH unless performance or injury dictates otherwise. Which is a pretty good place to be. I do see the merit in trading him for a position of need if the return is right.
  16. This is why I made the argument to trade Mayer for Marte (or another) earlier in the off season (though no way I do the Marte trade with Early as well!). Mayer is on a knife edge. Could really go either way and I'd rather the known quantity. Now he's staying, with luck, he really kicks on, but I would not be surprised if he turns out to be a relative bust in relation to his sky-high expectations a year or two ago. His health and bat have a long way to go yet...
  17. Fair enough. I don't think you're 'handing him' away. You're clearing some salary and bringing in a power bat to play DH, while freeing up the roster from a virtually useless Masa and Casas. It'll never happen, and I'm not even sure it should, but as much as I like Duran - he's 4th outfielder right now and will stay that way unless something happens. Which is fine in itself, not many, if any teams have that sort of cover, but Harper isn't nothing, and brings an element this team badly misses - power. Regardless, it doesn't feel like a Brez move. I was mostly just mostly putting it down to stress test it in my mind.
  18. Where does Duran play? edit - Never mind I see you covered it above. I don't see how Masa gets at bats, never mind Casas.
  19. If there are injuries he will play the field, obviously. And he will be used to rest players every now and then. Otherwise he's at DH. Where he should be in that alignment of 4 players.
  20. Played 132 games last year. 145 the year before. And he'd be DH only in this scenario. Comes with risks for sure.
  21. He's going to be mostly DH. As you know. We'd miss his cover, but I'd rather Bryce at DH.
  22. I know this is a no-go from the off, but with Bryce dropping a hand grenade on Dombrowski this week, I wonder if they will want to trade him if they can. And whether we can make something work involving Masa along with Duran/Casas to counter the Masa inclusion while taking on all the money. Hugely unlikely I know, but Bryce at DH with Contreras at 1B would bring some pop to the line up without hurting us too much.
  23. It could be argued we've only moved laterally, too, however.
  24. This but Abreu in RF, Anthony in LF and Duran at DH, and giving rest to the others.
  25. Yeah, it's gone by in the blink of an eye for me.
