  1. As a back up to the back up to the back up, what was Duran like as a 2nd baseman back in the day? Is there any data about whether he was even decent at 2nd?
  2. Do you think you might be taking this 'put your glove away' a bit too literally? If Bregman blew out his knee in April, Raffy would have been back as the starting 3rd baseman.
  3. This is where I am, too. I understand his value at CF, but Duran is not a huge step down and we wouldn't have to trade one of our outfielders. That said, it would be my fall back option. I'd rather we just went and got the player we need in a trade.
  4. This is absolutely rational and will fall on deaf ears. I look forward to doing this all again in 5 weeks.
  5. I said you may as well argue with flat earthers, you know, as in they're more likely to change their mind. The key to figuring this out was that my first sentence said Devers defenders are locked in and never changing theirs. If you want to perceive this as comparing your argument to the flat earth argument, well, you do you, I guess.
  6. We can agree there. Cora and the FO should have done a MUCH better job. After that, it's petulance of the highest order and throwing teammates under the bus. I blame both. I just hate Devers' actions. Hate them.
  7. Here they come, defensive, and ready to burn the world down! Relax fellas I was just needling you. Though, I don't know ANYONE that sees it as black and white as it being only Devers fault and that's that. So you can set fire to the strawman instead if you like.
  8. You're never going to change their minds. They're locked in for life. You may as well go and argue with flat earthers.
  9. More going on than we thought.
  10. Donovan just doesn't make sense to me as leftie.
  11. I'm good with Coulombe. Renfigo less so, but he had a decent '23 and '24. Possibility of going one year deal, too.
  12. And even more so with a poor health record. HIs defence is definitely up to muster. Hopefully he can hit and stay healthy. I have worries over both, but I do like the kid and his attitude.
  13. Sandalin was who I was thinking they'd need to attach to get rid of Hicks. I can't say I know anything about the prospect coming back, but pretty good reports online. Surely, at least one of those 40 places is going to be spent on a bull pen arm.
  14. "Cloud cuckoo land" describes a state of fantastical, absurd, or unrealistic thinking, often used in the phrase "living in cloud cuckoo land" to describe someone detached from reality, overly optimistic, or naïve. On the minuscule chance it comes up in a US based trivia night. One of many phrases I routinely mention Stateside that leaves the locals in a state of utter bedazzlement. That's probably wishful thinking - bewildered is likely more fitting.
  15. It is if you had a childhood in the UK. And now a novel apparently. 🤔
  16. Dumping Masa and/or Hicks is (I believe) eminently more difficult than you think it is. We already have a DH in waiting between the four outfielders we have. We're not going to trade Masa, Hicks, Duran/Abreu and sign Suarez. I know you like imagining scenarios where several trades and signings happens at once, and they're harmless of course, just as long we can agree it's mostly Cloud Cuckoo Land?
  17. No, I feel like it's more 1.8% possible ha! I think the only way we see Suarez #2 is if his market craters and we get him on a cheap one year deal and live with this strikeouts and D. And even then, we'd need to trade salary to make it happen. I just don't see any reasonable scenario where we get him and trade for another piece. They're going to roll with Mayer/Romy platoon at one of the position and enjoy the minuscule salary outlay.
  18. From what I've read and heard from the man himself, my feelings are that he would have. I think he just wanted to settle down somewhere in a city and not be shunted about with a young family. I really would have liked him back for his leadership and clubhouse glue, but I do like the Suarez contract immeasurably more. I might like it less when we're kicking the ball all around the diamond and running up the strike outs this year.
  19. Again, why are we signing Suarez if we're getting Batty or Paredes? It just isn't happening. Even if we got rid of Masa and saved $10m.
  20. I've no doubt. I can't imagine what the locker room was like in the following weeks after pulling that s***.
  21. The second one sounds like the kind of conversation I'd have lost three days to, so I lucked out!
  22. You're in dreamland man, We are not getting teams to take Hicks and Masa off us, unless we are still paying the majority of the money, and at that point we may as well keep Masa. I sure as hell don't want us binning off Abreu just so we can bring in Suarez.
  23. I wouldn't want him on our team that's for sure.
  24. Why would we add both? It's one or the other. I'm not using Abreu just to dump Hicks. He's far too good (and under control) to be using as an opportunity to salary dump and bring in inferior players.
  25. $2m is nothing. I'd rather just have his bat. I'm not sure I'd do your suggested deal there. If we can get it down further I start becoming interested though.
