    It's not like in video games where you just pick the player you want and get him. Devers wasn't a fit for the Twins in any way.

    Breslow for all the (some fair, lots not) criticism, has made a lot of very good decisions so far.

    I think you're about o have your heart broken, Kimmi. I don't want to see Duran going but I think it's inevitable. We badly need a 2nd starter. Crochet is nails. Gio and Bello appear to be locked in and hopefully that's who we have or near enough towards the end of the season, but it's far from a lock. After that, it's a lot of questions and huge ERA's. We need that extra pitcher and we have a lot of outfielders. Padres seem intent on getting Duran, so if we involved a 3rd team, I think it likely happens.

    I suspect this is probably very close to the truth. He let himself (and teammates) down hugely when he refused to play 1st when we really needed him to. To then offer to play there because 'they're the boss' in his first Giants press conference was just a final insult. We don't need to assume anything about how good a teammate Devers was towards the end. He showed us. I don't have any ill will towards him, but I don't particularly care if he does well either. He's the past and I'm rather glad that he is.

    I honestly have no idea why any of you waste time interacting with him. He's either a (successful) troll, or a condescending fool for whom it is impossible to see oneself as wrong about anything. Either way, he's a waste of time.

    Ridiculous! Jleave him where he is and trade your team back into balance!

    If the Padres really are this desperate for Duran, tell them it's De Vries or nobody. Then flip him in a package for pitching yourself,

    I must have watched that Rafaela walk off twenty times. It;s a game we should have (and would have 2 weeks ago) lost. O'Brien nailed the call, and the atmosphere was like a play off game. Take one of these last two games now and we're in a great place all of a sudden. The All Star break is coming just at the wrong time for us.

    This is a tragic way to support your team. *I better run to the forum to reverse jinx this, and if it happens the way I said anyway, I can tell everyone I knew it all along. It's every day/night, man.

    It is the only thing that makes sense to stop Toro playing every day

    Mayer is going to keep getting platooned. Which means Toro is going to start every day. Which really isn't good.

    Not a cat's chance in hell that Duran gets it done for Ryan. We'd have to tag on quite a bit more.

    And the balls to trade Devers. Whatever else you think of how we got there - that was a gutsy, put-my-job-on-the-line move.

    I've mentioned a few times - DD has been on record saying his starting pitchers aren't available. Now it could be a ploy to drive up price, either way - Duran isn't getting it done.

    As I've been at pains to point out - it looks incredibly light at infield and Romy would have to cover both Mayer and Toro against lefties in the same game! Something has to give.

    Interesting. Didn't realise you guys had it so tough right now. The Rays series is becoming larger in importance by the day.

    Yoshida/Toro split doesn't work as they're both better against right handed pitching. I agree though, a lot of my concern in this area would go away if Cora just started Mayer every day!

    Maybe that's where the disconnect is. I don't see Yoshida getting any time in left. Why would he? So he and Refsnyder will have to share DH (even if we do trade one of Duran or Abreu for pitching - which I feel is a certainty). We will soon have only 5 infielders, 2 of which are going to be platooning and Romy needs to platoon at two places against lefties..This is utterly obvious in its unsuitability to a team going for it, at least to me. But I've tried long enough to change your mind and it's not a big deal in the grand scheme of things. I'm off to post to Fred that Rafaela may be the most talented hitter we've had since Williams.

    Right but we dont want Toro playing full time against lefties or we lose what we're gaining. But Cora won't play Mayer against lefties either. How does he cover them both?

    It doesn't have to be him, though I'd rather him than what I've laid out. But we need to do something (if we're buyers).
