I love it when position players pitch. What are you supposed to do in a 15-1 blowout? Pretend to 'jes' keep grinding'? The way, you pretend that flipping the bat after a HR is an insult of some sort?

They could fix that EASILY, if they just changed the rule (to accord w/ the way the play has been called for 150 years). If the runner makes contact w/ the base and is OVER the base completing the slide, he is considered safe. That's how umpires see it; that's how players make that play; and that's how it should continue to be called. Replay was invented to correct errors, not to manufacture them by micromanaging plays like this.

Another good one. When the hurricanes come, I watch it religiously. (although given the uncertainty, I just choose the least catastrophic path in order to feel better about what is about to happen!)

Yeah, I get that, although I think hurricane path prediction is better than you suggest. Have you ever tried out the website "Windy"? "Windy" gives a fantastic view of what's going on (you're right, precipitation is a lot trickier to predict. I'm a sailor, so all I really care about is wind. If it rains, big whoop.)

That is, I think, exactly right. I don't play fantasy sports, and don't understand why anyone does. (Don't explain it! I'm not saying I'm right; I'm just saying it's among things I don't want to bother to care about.). But that is very likely why I am opposed to 'complete rebuild', trading away popular players, and despise 'tanking' in any form.

Problem is that the HOF also serves as the "History of Baseball" museum. And 'history' is no longer considered to be about the 1%ers, any more than regular history is about kings and queens. Not really sure how MLB should negotiate these conflicting demands, but certainly keeping players like Barry Bonds, Clemens and Rose [whom I despise!] out answers nothing.

Exactly. I have never forgiven Curt Gowdy, in a game with the RS (rarely) ahead by a run, talking about his wife planting petunias. Then, an inning later, as the opposing team hit a walk-off 3-run homer, BRIEFLY (which almost never happened with Gowdy!) losing his composure and saying "Oh no and it's gone!" (Why are my brain cells tied up with crap like this instead of focusing on where I left my glasses?)

Those who set ticket prices are given one principal charge: Set the prices such that you maximize gate revenue. They would make the exact same calculations whether player payroll is $300million or 10cents.

Exactly what would you like them to talk about after a 1-1 pitch in the dirt of a 7-1 game in the 6th inning? dWAR? FanGraphs ratings? the trade deadline? launch angles? ...

Come on. You know enough about the economics of baseball to know that ticket prices are determined by formulae that have nothing whatsoever to do with player salaries. It's silly to imagine that if they paid players 1/10 as much as they do, then suddenly $6 box seats would be available the day of the game and hot dogs would cost a quarter.

I know I know. RS only up 9 in the 9th. Call me a Pollyanna, but I don't think they're out of it yet. I think they can still win this one.

You'll have to ask that question of ownership, or of that apparently significant portion of the fan-base who are fine with losing the best player in the league along w/ anyone else whose dWAR or FanGraphs rating isn't up to snuff.

I must not have been clear. I specifically noted (or tried to!) that I was not arguing against free agency. The 'out-sourcing' comparison I meant was to the modern trading away or failing to retain veteran players because one could get the same or similar production more cheaply.
