  1. I'm skeptical of that weight, as other sources (some from last year) list him from 195-210. Are you saying he put on 30 pounds in a year?
  2. The whole NFL is heartless if it's false!
  3. But I believe two years ago, he also plunked a guy in retaliation, even though getting tossed made him ineligible for a bonus. (As I recall, the Yanks paid him anyway). I give him a pass on other matters for that.
  4. Yes you have suggested that before. And all this scheme depends on to work is for the other 31 teams and the Players Union (with all their lawyers) not being as clever as your basic TalkSox poster. Why not save more millions by 'restructuring' Castillo's salary to pay him the minimum while slipping him $10million or so to be a scout?
  5. They can make trades dependent on passing a physical. couldn't a contract be written that way?
  6. But then, look at LAD--having to play all those extra games in October. Imagine the toll that takes on players and coaching staff. Even their fan base. So short-sighted on their part.
  7. Plus, of course, the fact that LAD has a shot at the WS this year, while John Henry celebrates not having to pay the luxury tax.
  8. OK. We'll forget the plantation analogy, and stick to your language: "boobs" "perverted" "soft" etc.
  9. It came from you calling professional athletes "soft" and "overpaid boobs." Those are your "simply stated words."
  10. I know it's crazy, but given that the RS have almost unlimited spending capacity, how about improving the team by signing good players? and keeping the good players you have? Then again, since I live near Portland, I'm thrilled that they get rid of dead-wood like Betts in order to 'improve the farm' and give us that double-A ball we deserve.
  11. So you define "softness" as "not following authority" or "exercising free agency." And "strength" as "following orders" and maybe the good old days of being essentially the property of an owner? That may be good ideology for plantation owners, or even the general of a standing army. But I don't think it should apply to modern businesses like sports. I agree with you that managing employees, teaching, coaching--all those things are more difficult now than they may have been 50 or 60 years ago.
  12. Really? I think COVID increased my sports watching! (although yes, it pretty much eliminated my sports participation). I was desperate--watching Metopera.org every night. Which was fine. But nothing compared to listening to Joe Castiglione's mellifluous voice or watching Eck on stage.
  13. Why? What's the point? You want good defense? This is part of good defense.
  14. Agreed. And it's up to the league to make the more egregious cases impossible. it would be a relatively simple matter to develop a way to communicate signs to pitcher/catcher -- (e.g., football calls in plays to the QB on every play without incident). Instead, they try an elaborate work-around (no clubhouse video, etc.) which relies largely on the honor system. ("Oh yes, I PROMISE no one at home or in the stands will EVER look at video to decipher signs ... We will NEVER have a guy with binoculars out in center field ... I promise I promise I promise ...")
  15. The first clause of this post is the most important. MLB is not conspiring to hurt one of its most popular teams. (The RS are perfectly capable of shooting themselves in the foot without help from the league.)
  16. Well, you better swear off sports, then. If you're talking paying taxes, then yes, cheating is a big deal. But sports? Meh. It occurs in all sports, at all levels, and on almost every play. As for Cora, he's the one guy in this whole mess who showed some integrity: manning up, taking the fall, and not throwing anyone under the bus.
  17. Not sure why this matters. I worked in LA for almost 40 years making (I imagine) about 1% of what these guys make. NOT ONCE did I worry about "LA taxes," or think "Gee, maybe I could bank another $300 a year by moving to Milwaukee or Detroit."
  18. A-rod was not going to the mound; he was just pissed for being hit. "The Captain" took a cheap shot. Catchers ordinarily just stand in the way if that happens.
  19. In part, The Captain thing (which is why I like Crawford so much for calling him out on it). Also the way RS fans go ga-ga over him: He's not Fisk, (but ok, maybe a cut about Sammy White). And particularly his reputation as a tough guy, for going after A-rod, while completely suited up in body armor.
  20. Oh my God. Anyone but (as Carl Crawford in his greatest contribution to the Sox, used to say) "The Captain"!
  21. So they have a manager candidate who is experienced, a WS winner, a proven track record with the team is loved by players, great with the media, knowledgeable about baseball and its history and one of the very few in the "drumbeat" scandal who did NOT throw anyone under the bus, but proved his integrity by not selling out former players ... and yet, there are those who think that what's more important than that is that Bloom get "his guy"? (Is Henry going to make sure he gets him cheap as well?)
  22. Well, let's hope your faith is rewarded. But unless CB spends up to and even over the salary cap next year, all of what is cited in his defense (building for the future, reloading the farm, stabilizing the RS, looking long term ... whatever)--all of that will be hogwash. His primary goal is to save ownership money. Period. Everything else (winning, having a good team, supporting popular players, etc.) is secondary.
  23. Damn. What has happened to JDM??
  24. OMG. Am I watching Little League? C'mon Chavis!!
  25. 100% agree.
