  1. Well yes. But as a fan, I would much rather watch the RS fail to win a championship with expensive great players than watch them lose with crappy inexpensive ones.
  2. I agree entirely (esp. with the qualification in sentence 1). But he didn't get those rings by modelling his business after cash-strapped franchises or by cutting payroll.
  3. Again, why? Just bec. it's difficult to win with a smaller payroll, why is that better from a fan's point of view? (Note that we're ttalking about self-imposed frugality, not necessary frugality, as say Pittsburg faces). Surely you wouldn't be in favor of any other kind of deliberate handicapping--e.g., how about playing with a 20-man roster, or fielding a team with no one over 170 pounds. That too would give the opponent an advantage and it would be 'satisfying' I suppose to beat them. But again, why?
  4. Oh well. It's in the past. We're ALL glad we don't have to watch an MVP players perform--day after day after day--same old. It's MUCH more interesting watching how the unpredictable market affects some billionaire's bank account. Now THAT's entertainment.
  5. Why wouldn't you be happy beating up on thte Yankees with a team that costs as much as their team? The purpose is to beat the Yankees, not to pretend tto make a moral point by keeping John Henry's wallet bulging.
  6. Also making the final catch. Has either Chavis or Lin played OF before?
  7. Wow. A guy who can hit at a major league level!!! (The mere fact that RS fans see that as a cause for celebration pretty much shows how far the have fallen).
  8. So much more fun following "assets", wondering if they will make it from double-A to triple-A over the next five years (if there are minor leagues at all), than watching some stiff like Mookie Betts play. I mean, who follows tennis to see, say, Serena Williams or N. Djokovic, instead of all those competing in qualifying rounds?
  9. Perhaps one indication of how far the RS have fallen is that its most ardent fans are now seriously discussing draft order (you know, like they do in the mid-west somewhere or on boards of tanking NBA teams.)
  10. Totally agree. I also do not understand K's definition of the "winning team" Bloom put together. A winning team is a team that wins. This team does not.
  11. It's not? Maybe I don't remember clearly, but did he not get rid of one of the best hitters in the league?
  12. Ah, thanks. I still don't think I'll be starting my celebration on the great PTBNL's we have coming!
  13. Wasn't he released by Twins and signed by RS? He wasn't a PTBNL was he?
  14. Just curious: are there any PTBNL's who have made a significant contribution to their new club?
  15. Wow. Another "Player to be named later"!!!! Bloom and Henry CLEANED UP!!
  16. I don't think we need to ask why ANYONE is out of sorts this summer!
  17. So the RS organization is supposed to model itself after the Marlins?
  18. You're right. But during that long long time, Dodger fans will be watching the greatest player in the league, while we will be rejoicing about being under the salary cap.
  19. That's Darwin, who is my best buddy ... except for the fact that, of course, he doesn't give a crap about me.
  20. Yup. Agree totally. (And if we are EXTREMELY lucky, after two or three crappy seasons, the RS will be back, or nearly back, to where they were before J. Henry's bank account became more important than the quality of the team.)
  21. As I've often said, a three-year-old Hyundai at $500 is a better value than a 2018 Porsche at 75K. But which one wins the race?
  22. I believe it was our failure to fall to our knees in awe of his insights.
  23. Can we dedicate this season to C. Bloom and J. Henry's bank account?
  24. How's The Process working out in Philadelphia?
