  1. Jenson, Jerry Casales, George Scott, Rice, Schiraldi, JBJ, Devers
  2. (Once again, my rapier-like wit, honed on irony, blunted by the whetstone of the world.)
  3. I don't know. I don't think things are quite that clear yet. But that's just my opinion.
  4. (I was actually responding to your very words: "Dissing Henry is not winning me over in any way". Which I and I assume others would interpret to imply: 'there are arguments that COULD win me over')
  5. As for winning someone over, NO ONE in the history of sports boards or social media generally, has ever advanced an argument that changed anyone's mind about anything, nor has anyone advanced an argument that was intended to do that.
  6. 5GGOF75 wasn't being ironic? (This discussion is way beyond my pay grade. I mean, resetting is nice, just like making out to no particular purpose was nice in high school--although I don't remember thinking WOW! in four years, I might be doing the same thing again.) I just hope one day to have an owner or GM who thinks: damn, I want to win and entertain my fan base: THEREFORE I will find and sign the best players I can.)
  7. I hear Tebow is available.
  8. Not if you're a sailor!!
  9. I hear the Dodgers are pretty good. (But then, you can't really expect small market teams like Boston to compete.)
  10. yeah, why would we want the inconvenience of fans?
  11. That would be SOCIALISM!!!!
  12. Correct.
  13. That's what I hoped for too. But when the power goes out here, the roar from generators is everywhere. (These things could be made quieter--look at cars! But everyone seems to be of the opinion that since their neighbor's generator is loud, their own must be louder.)
  14. I've got one. But they aren't quite as easy and convenient as one might think. E.g., you can't really leave it running 24/7--you'll burn up propane uselessly, and unless you have a soundproof bedroom, you'll get no sleep. (But it's a lot better than not having one, and surely a lot better than a portable gas one.)
  15. Harpswell (or I will be there in a month or so).
  16. Cool! What about water? I suppose if you live on Sebago, you can just lug it or pump it (surreptitiously) from the lake. I cut my own wood too, but since I don't winter there anymore, a couple of cords of spruce and birch blowdowns usually does it.
  17. Sure. Because you need a well pump to run water. Gravity kept the compost from flying upward into my butt! 35 years in Maine? Pah! That means you're an outsider. I have more than 70, and I still don't qualify as a local. (Where in Maine, btw?)
  18. I have one too. That's how I heat my house. But it doesn't do a thing for light or hot water.
  19. Without power for a day??? Whiners! You need to move to Maine, home of 10-15 day power outages. That's why I bit the bullet for a generator (which is not a great solution, by the way, but better than having to crap in the compost heap for a week or more.)
  20. Oh yeah. I'm sure one of those players to be named later will be a Varitek or an Ortiz. But why aim low? There's an equal chance that they'll be a Ted Williams or Babe Ruth.
  21. 700hitter heard what he said to season ticket holders like himself, and then he did not do what he said he would do. It's splitting hairs to claim that wasn't a lie.
  22. I'm with you! And I'm sure his thinking (as a good soldier) was: "This is all for the good of the team. How are we ever going to hire all those prospects once we get rid of Mookie unless we get season ticket holders to pay up BEFORE we do that?"
  23. Well, that's the problem, no? Bloom apologists place responsibility on Henry; Henry apologists put that on Bloom; fantasy sports enthusiasts blame the market ... By the way, I hear the Stones are touring through your city. Now, Mick and Keith won't be there--you know, we don't trust their ability to continue much longer, and they're really way way more than our company can afford--but don't worry, we've got some great up and coming musicians (well, maybe not 'great', but 'good' or certainly at least 'average'). Tix going for $150-$2500. See you there.
  24. Oh I agree. I hated Price, and the Eck incident was a major part of it (although he somewhat redeemed himself by helping out the minor leaguers in the LAD organization last year). But you (oops, not YOU personally!) cannot argue "pitching is our priority" and then get rid of someone like that.
  25. But then again, if the biggest need was pitching, why would you pay half your ace's salary to play for someone else? The biggest need in the minds of Bloom/Henry was to save money. Everything else (fan support, 'watchable' team, championship runs--which would be my priorities ... in that order) was secondary.
