So the problem was when they extended the term to fly balls? where the notion that a batter can attempt to hit a fly out rather than, say, an off-the-wall double, is absurd. But equally absurd is the notion that a batter is rewarded for 'trying' to make an out w/ a bunt, or that the scorer is some mind-reader who can determine intent. (I believe there was a chapter in MONEYBALL critiquing the whole moral impetus behind the concept of 'sacrifice', no?).

Did Teddy have any bunts? Where the dumb-ass scoring rule is that if you TRY to get out while moving the runner up, it's a sacrifice, but if you TRY to get a hit while moving the runner up, it's an out. That is idiotic. (Why not, then, for sac flies? THAT doesn't count as a sac fly because CLEARLY he was trying to get a home run).

Totally agree. Wonder who was behind the hype? (Agents wanting more? Or owners wringing their hands about how unfairly they are treated and how impoverished they are? -- I suspect the latter.) (then again, maybe it was just bored fans making sh*t up!)

Well, I guess as far as kids' entertainment is concerned, I distinguish 'cheating' (which doesn't really bother me) from things like 'kidnapping teenagers for sex and photographing them' (proven or not), 'masturbating in public', 'S&M sessions with hookers', assaults over fantasy sports. But that's just me. (I should also add: 'filthy rich CEOs holding their customers in contempt while stealing more money from them')

Dude, he is 'not guilty', i.e., 'not proven to be guilty in a courtroom.' Does that mean he, McGuire, Tommy Pham, etc. are the guys you want your kids to idolize? Are those the guys whose athletic careers you want to follow and whom you want to cheer for?
