    His ERA is about 4.5 now. Pretty mediocre. But he leads the league in run support. He is going to need it tonite.

    He stunk for nearly a year. He was not turning it around at all, and he had a propensity to end up on the DL. Furthermore, there is no room for him on this team. There was a better player, potentially at least, waiting in the wings. They had to get rid of him for whatever they could get in return, even if it was nothing. Youkilis' contribution to this franchise was huge. And its over. Its been over for him for a year, almost. His time was up; he had his chance to turn it around and failed to do so. I wish him well.

    If you are "all in on Middlebrooks", where was Youkilis going to play? Left field?

    None of it. No one knows what causes inflammatory bowel disease, though as I recall there is a genetic component to it and I believe its associated with psychiatric disorders. But there is no cause and effect: just because someone is nervous it does not predispose people to IBD.

    Youkilis was not going to come back here next year. That has to be factored into the equation. AND his presence was blocking a better player. There was simply no room for him here any more. We might lose in the short term, but this was a necessary move.

    We were lucky to get anyone at all for Youkilis. Unless he can somehow turn it around (he has stunk since last July) he is finished. We got a fair deal for him.
