  1. Hey, you know I respect your opinion here. But I think that you are ignoring the fact that he is, in fact, injured a lot. I believe that is because he is playing a more demanding position in the field now. His body type is not well suited for 3B. IMO he will produce in spurts, but his overall effectiveness will not resemble what it was when he was in his prime. If we could package him with another player to get Garza I would do that in a minute; Dempster would also help. I am not overestimating what Middlebrooks is likely to give us. It will probably not be like Youk in his prime, but it will almost certainly be better than the Youk since last ASB, warts and all. If we can get value for Youkilis now we ought to do it. I think that is what will end up happening, unless he makes some sort of dramatic offensive comeback that is consistent.
  2. Youk WAS an elite bat until his body started revolting against him. He has played well for just nine games in a row since his return. I responded to you with his statistics since last July, and they are dismal. Of course WMB will slump; they all do. Look at Gonzalez. He has been in a season long slump. I would prefer to go with youth and maximize what we can get (Dempster would be fine) for him now. We need more pitching more than his hitting, which really hasn't been good if you look at the last 10 months.
  3. We have to find a way to keep WMB in the lineup. And I haven't seen a link showing that he flunked his test at SS, just some talk here.
  4. This is only NINE GAMES in which Youkilis has played well. Very small sample size. Lets look at a bigger sample size. From the ASB until the end of the season last year his OPS was .660. This year, for the whole season, his OPS is just .724, including the games in which he has played well. Youkilis is most likely not going to be here next year; he is in the final year of his contract. Middlebrooks is our 3B of the future. Moving Youkilis NOW rather than waiting for him to slide back into the doldrums he has been in for really the past 10 months maximizes our return for him. We may miss out on a few productive months, but in the long run, its the smartest thing to do.......IMO, of course.
  5. Probably not. How many times did Gonzalez play RF before he got here? Or Youk in LF before he did that for the team? I admit that there will be a loss defensively, but I think that unless he is a total clod out there at 2B he is preferable to having to witness the futility of Nick Punto at the plate.
  6. Why isn't WMB playing second base instead of the useless oaf we had out there last night? Yes, its a loss defensively and there could be issues turning the double play, but do you guys really want to see any more of Nick Punto?
  7. Yup. Taking three games from Detroit is a good result from this series. It sucks that its June 1 and we are still in last place, but we are only three games or so out of first. The season is not over yet. If our pitching can continue to perform well we could compete for a playoff spot this year, not because our team is dominant, but because no one else's team is dominant either.
  8. And yet someone here, who is now on ignore (again), thinks I ought to be banned for even suggesting this. Its a legitimate option. Why did we trade for Melancon? Not so he could languish at Pawtucket while others at the ML level screw up. Our bullpen is actually performing fairly well, but it has a weak link. Shouldn't we correct that if we can? Do we really need THREE LH RP?
  9. Melancon has an ERA of .96 at Pawtucket in 18 2/3 innings of relief. Isn't it time he is given another chance and Moralass is given a ticket out of town?
  10. I think he has three total bases on this team. Why we still have him on the roster is explained only by stubborn stupidity on the part of our FO.
  11. This game is over, courtesy of Moralass, who does not belong on this team. He and Punto should be cut immediately. So, tomorrow is June 1, and we will still be in last place. Wonderful. Thanks Josh. Thanks Adrian. And a very special thanks to Moralass the Bum.
  12. We ought to text the Stiff congratulating him on making contact there. His act is really getting old.
  13. Sad thing is, we got this guy for exactly these situations. And he has royally sucked at it this year. So predictable. Popout. Option B.
  14. Great. Gonzalez up to choke again. K? Popout?
  15. At least Beckett gave us a chance to win, even though I expected better from him. Time to turn it over to the bullpen and try to get a couple of runs. If we can pull this out, the Tigers go home pissed from a losing streak and take on the Yankmees. Hopefully they will take out their frustrations on them.
  16. Wonderful. Moralass is up in the pen. He and Punto should be on the next bus out of town.
  17. 16 hits in five innings will do that. I think we need to get Atchison up in the pen right now.
  18. Beckett lucked out. Still in the game.
  19. I don't see anyone getting loose in the pen. Thats a mistake. More runs are on the way now.
  20. Yup. But the seven run rule is in effect. We get to seven and there are even odds of winning the game.
  21. Better get someone up in the pen. Beckett is dog meat tonite
  22. Seven hits now against Beckett. Guess he is due for a lemon.
  23. Beckett better settle down. We should be able to score runs off Scherzer and the Tigers pen, but we really should be putting these guys away early.
