  1. No way we should tamper with Aceves' fine performance as closer. One potentially ruined pitcher is enough.
  2. Not quite. We can decide what WE think ought to be done. The upcoming decision by the FO will serve for me, at least, as a barometer of just how stubborn and stupid they are. Keep Bard in the rotation and they win the Clay Buchholz Moron of the Year Award. DL him in preparation for a return to the pen and its a step in the right direction. I hope its not too late. This decision should not have taken this long.
  3. OK... I am outta here. This one has been over since the second inning. Won the series here. Goal: win the next one too.
  4. Atchison is this year's Hideki Okajima.
  5. Maybe we could somehow stretch Padilla out a bit so he could assume a SP role at the end of the season. Bard is a failure and possibly facing the beginning of the end of his career. We could send Padilla down and bring up Melancon to see if that will work out. Alternatively, make a trade to get Garza to replace Bard or Doubront, when he reaches his innings limit.
  6. Its almost as if the Red Sox just lost all the wind in their sails after witnessing Daniel Bard laying an egg. The look flat as hell. They better get it back together for the next series.
  7. Punto bumm... On the subject of DiceK: he can get more ready at Fenway Park. We can no longer afford Daniel Bard in the rotation. We will still need another SP to replace Doubront when he reaches his innings limit, and I don't really want to see Cook in that role. Someone of higher quality perhaps.
  8. I guess my point is that we will probably finish in the top three in runs scored and OPS this year. I don't think there will be any shortage of runs for the Red Sox this year, just like the last two years. If we want the results of 2010 and 2011 to be different in 2012 that difference has to be in pitching, especially in starting pitching. There is lots of room to improve over the performances of our last two years. If we discard the first several weeks of the season and finish in the top five in the AL in ERA we should be fine in terms of making the playoffs. Below that, we are in trouble, just like the past two years.
  9. Hey-at least we won the series against the Jays. Thats what we really needed to accomplish here. Lets do it against the Orioles too...keep winning series.
  10. I hope you are right SFF. This just cannot continue. And the DL is a good place to start trying to regain his form. Lets hope he is not another Joba case.
  11. Nick, we both know that our FO is too stubborn and too stupid to see what is now clear to every single poster here today. The chance of Bard returning home to the pen is near zero.
  12. I was not accusing you of trying to use injuries as an excuse. Some here have done that, but I never bought that. In fact, I am really not disagreeing with what you wrote about that. I think that you CAN almost bash your way into the playoffs, but you need SOME pitching too. Last year is an example. We led the AL in runs scored and OPS, but still missed the playoffs because of mediocre to poor pitching. The year before we were second in OPS and runs scored, but again, our pitching sucked and we missed the playoffs. Its out pitching that will determine if we make the playoffs or not this year, once again.
  13. Well, the game is now over. I am calling it. Its really a no brainer. Maybe a game like this is what is needed to force the FO to take Bard out of the rotation. Frankly, I think it is going to be a while before he is going to be effective again, if he ever is.
  14. Pointless. The game is just about over. Let Bard stay in there until the sixth inning. Thats what he wanted, right?
  15. I am talking about experiencing failure and losing your confidence. I think he has the mental toughness of silly putty. And I am talking about what happened to Chamberlain in NY. You remember that fiasco, right? In 2008 he was a very good RP with an ERA of 2.60. The next year they made him a SP and he sucked; ERA: 4.75. So they put him back in the pen in 2010 and he still sucked: ERA: 4.40. That could easily happen to Barf....I mean Bard.
  16. Its really not predictable. Even odds.
  17. How much longer is Cherries going to allow Bard to embarass himself as a SP? Its gotta end soon you would think. He had his chance; he blew it.
  18. Bard shits his pants. This is no starting pitcher. Good thing this game is gravy if we win it.
  19. Bard about to walk the bases loaded. And he wonders why V takes him out of games so soon.
  20. Bard had to open his big mouth about wanting to be left in games longer-then he walks the first guy he faces. All talk Bard.
