  1. None of the players the Sox gave up in the trade were going to play major roles for them in 2013. Hopefully, Hanrahan has the success as closer in Boston that he did in Pittsburgh. He is an upgrade over Melcanon (only player in trade who had a major league role in 2012) in the bullpen so the trade inproves the bullpen without weakening any other part of the team.
  2. Reports I've read is a 2 for 4 trade. Not all of the names are coming out. The Sox get Hanrahan for Pimentel and Sands. Melancon name is being mentioned, but haven't seen where his name and the other players are mentioned. I think is an upgrade to the pen.
  3. Cubs made his dream come true.
  4. I guess we have to be prepared for the worst, and hope for the best. On paper the Sox are out of the playoffs, but it would be nice if they are playing meaningful games in September.
  5. I think Lester is still a young lefty and you can't give up on him. There is a fine line between being effective and getting rocked. Lester is not that far removed from having success, and if he is not hurt then you got to hope he has a bounce back year. The bottom line the Sox don't compete unless Lester has some success in 2013.
  6. Very little noise about Napoli and the issues. I think Napoli got hurt getting his physical and the FO doesn't know how to break the news to the Nation. If he has a potential long term problem, I think the Sox have to take a pass and move on.
  7. How would Hanrahan do in Boston? Sometimes small market NL stats don't fly in Boston. We went though that last year with Melancon. I think Hanrahan has better stuff, but its still a unknown what he would be able to do under the bright lights of Boston.
  8. Sox probably over paid for Drew, but its for only one year. His numbers last year are off because an injury he was recovering from. Its probably his job heading into spring, and it would take a hell of a spring by Iglesias to take the starting job back. Ciriaco comes off the bench and Iggy starts the year at AAA. This will be his last year to prove to the FO he can hit.
  9. Long term success comes with teams that consistently have solid drafts and have minor league systems that can mold them into productive major leaguers.
  10. It just won't look right with Youk in pinstrips and no facial hair. Say it isn't so.
  11. Other then Drew you haven't heard the Sox interested in any SS. I think they give Iglesias a shot in the spring. May even give him a couple of months at the begining of 2013.
  12. Brentz's stock has gone up over the last year. A signing of Swisher now would probably block him. Swisher is going to want more then the 3 years at 13 million. I think we may see him (Brentz) some time next season.
  13. So far it looks like they are going with their youth. All FA signings are short term contracts, and no top prospect were moved. It would be nice if they could be competitive why we wait for the kids to arrive. I don't want to go through another season like 2012.
  14. Ellsbury probably staying the season with the Sox. No team is going to give equal value for him since it is his walk year and Borus is his agent. Borus will take him to FA and look for big $$$ and length. The Sox will hopefully get a big year out of him at least. If they weren't going to resign him they probably should have moved him after his big 2011 season when they probably could have gotten some top prospects.
  15. With are luck LaRoche would resign with Nats before we get this Napoli contract settled one way or the other. It seems the FO is always a step behind on every player they claim they have an interest in.
  16. After his quick start post trade to White Sox, Youk's numbers tailed off. The W-Sox not bringing him back says to me that two teams think he is done as a every day player. If the $panks run him out there every day he will get injuried, and there will be a decline in his production.
  17. Plus he has had some success in the AL, unlike Dempster.
  18. I always wanted LaRoche over Napoli. He gives you the offence, but also has a solid glove.
  19. Swisher's value went up with Hamilton signing with the Angels. Teams looking for RF with some pop will target Swisher. He is looking for more then three years, and I hope that means the Sox stay clear. I rather bring Ross back then Swisher. Sox do probably need a OF that can play 1B, but Swisher isn't that guy.
  20. Weaver, Wilson and Hanson at the top of the rotation. I think the SP they do have and the lineup they can field daily gets them into the playoffs.
  21. Watch this Napoli thing go on for weeks with the agreement finally falling apart, and the Sox in need of a 1B again.
  22. Based on off season moves and barring major injuries I think the Jays, Tigers, and Angels will fill three of the five playoff spots in the AL. The Sox meanwhile are still looking up at a lot of other AL teams who on paper have a better chance of making the playoffs. 2013 has bridge written all over it. It will be another long season, unless the Sox start bringing up the future in late summer.
  23. Not sure about Dempster in the AL East. He has a history of pitching a lot of innings, but if that comes with a high ERA in the AL then it could be a problem. There are rumors going around that the Jays are after Dickey. Its looking more and more based on off season moves within the division that the Sox are looking up at the rest of the teams in the division. 2013 has bridge written all over it. Based on all moves so far this off season the Sox are waiting for the youth.
  24. If we didn't need starting pitching so badly it would be Lackey.
  25. It would be sweet if De LaRosa worked out and was a top of the rotation SP that threw heat. Add him to Barnes and possibly Webster and those are some good young arms. I wish they were all ready this year then we wouldn't have to over pay for a SP. If they all were ready you would think one of the three would have a solid spring and be the number 5.
