  1. I think this contract is fair for Papi and it will allow him to retire in Boston. I think this is a deal the FO had to do. I think Papi is still a productive hitter and for PR purposes it is a positive move.
  2. Tori Hunter for two years at a reasonable amount could replace Ross in RF. He is good in the club house and has always hit well in Fenway. If the Sox are waiting for their kids to be ready Hunter could bridge the time. I have heard a lot in regards to Justin Upton, who I like as a player, but I think the asking price is going to be to high.
  3. Now that the Hot Stove season is underway things should get interesting. Sox are in need of starting pitching help. If a true number one is almost impossible to get then adding a quality middle of the order arm is a must. What does anyone think of Anibal Sanchez? He pitched pretty good in the playoffs and would be another quality arm without breaking the bank.
  4. We got to stop this Swisher thing, let it go. When the pressure of the playoffs are on he has never produced for the $pankees. His numbers are inflated by playing in Yankee Stadium and having the lineup around that he did. Just say NOOOOOOOO!
  5. Lovullo hire as bench coach is a positive. Has known Farrell for twenty years and is close to him and it seems that they have a good working relationship. Farrell has said the communication between him and Lovullo is good and if Lovullo disagrees with something that Farrell does he will voice his opinion. I think this is good because you don't want all yes men around you, and this is a positive for the Sox.
  6. Farrell gets the bench coach he wanted in Lovullo, so the communication should be 100% better then we saw last year. If the manager and the coaching staff is as big a story in 2013 as it was in 2012 then it will be another long summer. I think Rick Peterson is getting an interview for piching coach. He was with Baltimore last season and you see the improvement they had. You have heard a lot a different things about him and is methods over the years so I don't know where I stand on this yet. But having a coaching staff in place before Nov. 1 would be positive for the Sox.
  7. I agree you can't score runs if you aren't getting on base. OBP took us a long way in 2004 and 2007. Plus we had higher walks, thus we ran up the pitch count on the enemy pitchers forcing to use their bullpens more.
  8. It seems that the Tigers beating the $pankees is their World Series victory. As far as I am concerned they did their job.
  9. In the long term it is in the best interest if Rivera retires? What are Yankees fans pulling for? If Rivera plays one more season then Soriana leaves to close for another team.
  10. Angels aren't trading Trumbo so you can let that go. If Trout wasn't an Angel it would be Trumbo the young Angel HR hitter they would be talking about. I just can't see the Angels moving him.
  11. What does it say that the Jays picked Aviles over Bailey? An Bailey hasn't been given closer role for 2013 Farrell said he would compete for the job.
  12. How many people liked it when Tito was hired before the 2004 season? Based on his track record in Philly many thought he was the wrong guy for the job. I not saying that Farrell is going to have the success that Francona had, but I do think he has the respect of the players on day one.
  13. BV managing days are over. I can't see another team bringing him in to manage. He is like a three ring circus. He just doesn't know when to keep his yapper shut. There is not a bridge out there that he hasn't burned. Papi shutting down to get ready for 2013 makes sence. Now if he comes to camp out of shape and a fat a_ _ then I may change my mind.
  14. I like Price and his name has been mentioned as possibly being moved, but the Rays aren't trading him to someone inside their division. The only way he ever ends up in Boston or with the $pankees is as a FA and that would cost big $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.
  15. Guys the $pankees just got swept by the Tigers and are playing golf today. The Sox have a manager before Christmas. Spring training is one day closer. So you agree to disagree. Bottle the hate and save it for the $pankees.
  16. Tigers in Six.
  17. Don't hate Ozzie, hate the Marlins!
  18. How many days until pitcher and catchers?
  19. If true this would another positive for the Sox. First, many say that he has what it takes to be a good manager (That is what you need in a good bench coach). Second, he has a track record working with some of the younger Sox players. Finally and most important, he has a good working relationship with JF.
  20. I can see the Sox moving Lackey if he proves that he is healthy. So Lackey will start the season in the rotation. I think the Sox have to be looking for a top of the rotation starter. It would would be nice if it was a true number 1, but those are hard to come by and may have to settle for a middle of the rotation guy and hope that Lester returns to form.
  21. Listening to the press conference it comes off that Farrell is BC's guy. Its important that the manager and GM are on the same page in regards to the roster. If this is going to work the Sox have to fix the starting pitching and Farrell is a small step in the right direction. Now he has to bring in a pitching coach that he can work with. Last year there was a lack of communication and the starters struggled the whole season.
  22. If its two years at $25 million then that is about right value for Papi who when healthy is still one of the best DHs in the AL.
  23. It was obvious with no playing time in September that Aviles had no future in Boston and could get the manager the FO wanted. The move opens up a spot on the 40 man roster which will be needed when the Hot Stove starts. If Ciriaco is the utility infielder next season Aviles fills no need.
  24. Got to rebuild first. The Hot Stove should be interesting this year with both the Sox and the $panks being major players.
  25. I can see a Sox - Rangers trade being multiply players with Ellsbury and Andrus the center pieces.
