  1. The book could effect his relationship with current players on the Guardians. I think a lot of ball players take the if it happens in the club house it stays in the club house very seriously.
  2. I agree! I loved what Wakefield did for the Sox, but I was never confident on what was going on when he was pitching. With a knuckle ball pitcher things can go bad quickly. Now Wright is suppose to throw a harder knuckle ball like Dickey, and you never know. There are so few of them that they give hitters a hard time. With that said if Wright is pitching big innings in 2013 then a lot went wrong for the Sox.
  3. I agree that if the 2013 version of the Sox blows up then they will start bringing the kids up and get what they can for some of the older pieces. If the 2013 version competes then that is great, and if they tank and the kids get to play I can live with that. Either way it beats the crap that we watched in 2012.
  4. Its a minor league deal and he has to produce in the spring to make the trip north with the Sox. I agree they can do as many of these minor league deals and if they get lucky with one who can help them win some games this summer then that is a positive. Overbay won't hurt you with the glove, but can he still help with the bat?
  5. Youk gave his all to the Sox while he was in Boston, but he is in decline and is no longer an all-star player. The best days for Youk are behind him so I can't get mad at him for taking some of that $pankee $$$$$.
  6. Best case for Lackey is that he is healthy and he can pitch close to where he was at with the Angels. If he is the 5th starter then that would be a positive for the Sox. Sox need as many positives with their SP that they can get to be competitive in the AL where I see at least 6 teams on paper better then us.
  7. Most people are picking the Sox for 4th or 5th in their division. If that is the case then winning 90 can not happen since we play the teams in our division so much. Even if we finish in 3rd place winning 90 would be very tough. Thats just the math. We can hope that one or two of the teams picked above us blow up and have season like the 2012 Sox. It would be fun to see the $panks go through that. The bottom line the Sox have to have a lot of things go right to sniff 90 wins.
  8. Lohse is a NL pitcher and I agree he would not fair well in the AL East.
  9. Seems like Pedro is willing to pass his knowledge on. It can't hurt that the current Sox hear from guys who won in Boston.
  10. Stanton now has come out and said he wants to play on the left coast in the future. Sounds like he doesn't want anything to do with Boston and New York and is a warm weather guy.
  11. I agree, if Tazawa merits being in Boston when the Sox come north then he should be. Can still see Sox moving pieces in the bullpen to fill other needs or bring back more youth.
  12. If a guy isn't comfortable or happy in the place he is playing are you really going to get the best production out of him. To me when J-Upton put the Sox on a list of no-trade locations it was him saying he is fearful of what could happen when he fails to live up to his potential. FO is wise to not touch this guy and the boat load of $$$$ he would ask for.
  13. Bourn still in FA limbo because of the draft pick the signing team would have to give up. The players union can't be happy what the new FA rules have done to some of their players.
  14. Don't know if Pedro will have an impact on the Sox pitching, but I don't see were it would hurt them at all. He has a lot of knowledge on what it takes to be a dominate pitching and if he can pass any of that on it is a plus. There are a lot of pitchers that have outstanding stuff, the great ones also have great stuff above the neck.
  15. I have a feeling that Victorino is going to surprise some people. He is not going to hit a lot of homers, but he is a huge upgrade with the glove in RF and is going to hit for average and steal some bases for the Sox. Something Crawford was suppose to do, but never did. Unlike Crawford Victorino has proven he can play in a big market.
  16. The Uptons are loaded with potential and have all the tools, but not sure they are super baseball players. J-Upton didn't want to come to Boston (On no trade list) so that tells me he doesn't have what it takes to play on the big stage in Boston. Not worth the Sox unloading top prospects out of the system. I don't know the Braves system so I can't really judge what the DBacks got back in the trade. I think they were pissed off that he killed the trade with the Mariners so they got what was the best possible package.
  17. The Sweeney signing is to replace Kalish in the competition with Nava for the left handed platoon in LF with Gomes getting most of the LF righty ABs. Its sad, but I think Kalish may never get a chance because of the injuries.
  18. If Breslow continues to pitch like he has the past few seasons then he will be worth the contract. Good lefties out of the pen are hard to come by and are important for a team's bullpen success.
  19. I kind of like the idea of Cano in the National League. I can't see the $panks letting him walk though. Other then in the playoffs last year he has been the Spankees most consistent hitter the past few seasons. If that huge ARod contract becomes the reason for Cano moving on then I love the contract ARod has that will allow to start collecting Social Security when it finally runs out. Talk about a problem!
  20. He is to St. Louis what Teddy Ballgame is to Boston. When you think of great all time Cardinals the list starts below Musial. RIP.
  21. If game calling by the catchers is a big part of the pitchers struggles then I can see Ross catching more then most of would have guessed. Napoli is not going to be mistaken for a gold glove catcher and the Sox got him for his bat so the more he catches the more a chance that his hip problem could revisit the Sox in 2013. I got to believe that Napoli taking the one year deal and dropping the 3 for $39 deal makes the hip a future problem if he catches too much.
  22. I love Pedroia and he is the heart of the team, but he has had injuries the last few years so I wouldn't be rushing around extending him at a crazy amount of $$$$$. When the current contract is close to the end reward him if he is deserving. He plays the game hard which is what you love about this guy, but his career will be shorten because of that.
  23. Reddick will hit 20-25 HR again. He hit 32 playing half of his games in Oakland. Plus he is a solid defensive outfielder. He kind of made the Bailey trade a bit one sided. Salty is still a trading chip for the Sox. Because of injuries that come with the position a team may have a need for him and may be willing to give up more during the season.
  24. Earl just got into an argument at the Pearly Gates. He was of the great characters in baseball. RIP.
  25. I think the major off season moves have been completed. If BC does anything else it will be depth SP and a lefty hitting 1B - OF. I think there plan is to compete with the roster in place, but it blows up you are going to start seeing the promotion of some of the Sox youth.
