  1. I agree you can't score runs if you aren't getting on base. OBP took us a long way in 2004 and 2007. Plus we had higher walks, thus we ran up the pitch count on the enemy pitchers forcing to use their bullpens more.
  2. It seems that the Tigers beating the $pankees is their World Series victory. As far as I am concerned they did their job.
  3. In the long term it is in the best interest if Rivera retires? What are Yankees fans pulling for? If Rivera plays one more season then Soriana leaves to close for another team.
  4. Angels aren't trading Trumbo so you can let that go. If Trout wasn't an Angel it would be Trumbo the young Angel HR hitter they would be talking about. I just can't see the Angels moving him.
  5. What does it say that the Jays picked Aviles over Bailey? An Bailey hasn't been given closer role for 2013 Farrell said he would compete for the job.
  6. How many people liked it when Tito was hired before the 2004 season? Based on his track record in Philly many thought he was the wrong guy for the job. I not saying that Farrell is going to have the success that Francona had, but I do think he has the respect of the players on day one.
  7. BV managing days are over. I can't see another team bringing him in to manage. He is like a three ring circus. He just doesn't know when to keep his yapper shut. There is not a bridge out there that he hasn't burned. Papi shutting down to get ready for 2013 makes sence. Now if he comes to camp out of shape and a fat a_ _ then I may change my mind.
  8. I like Price and his name has been mentioned as possibly being moved, but the Rays aren't trading him to someone inside their division. The only way he ever ends up in Boston or with the $pankees is as a FA and that would cost big $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.
  9. Guys the $pankees just got swept by the Tigers and are playing golf today. The Sox have a manager before Christmas. Spring training is one day closer. So you agree to disagree. Bottle the hate and save it for the $pankees.
  10. Tigers in Six.
  11. Don't hate Ozzie, hate the Marlins!
  12. How many days until pitcher and catchers?
  13. If true this would another positive for the Sox. First, many say that he has what it takes to be a good manager (That is what you need in a good bench coach). Second, he has a track record working with some of the younger Sox players. Finally and most important, he has a good working relationship with JF.
  14. I can see the Sox moving Lackey if he proves that he is healthy. So Lackey will start the season in the rotation. I think the Sox have to be looking for a top of the rotation starter. It would would be nice if it was a true number 1, but those are hard to come by and may have to settle for a middle of the rotation guy and hope that Lester returns to form.
  15. Listening to the press conference it comes off that Farrell is BC's guy. Its important that the manager and GM are on the same page in regards to the roster. If this is going to work the Sox have to fix the starting pitching and Farrell is a small step in the right direction. Now he has to bring in a pitching coach that he can work with. Last year there was a lack of communication and the starters struggled the whole season.
  16. If its two years at $25 million then that is about right value for Papi who when healthy is still one of the best DHs in the AL.
  17. It was obvious with no playing time in September that Aviles had no future in Boston and could get the manager the FO wanted. The move opens up a spot on the 40 man roster which will be needed when the Hot Stove starts. If Ciriaco is the utility infielder next season Aviles fills no need.
  18. Got to rebuild first. The Hot Stove should be interesting this year with both the Sox and the $panks being major players.
  19. I can see a Sox - Rangers trade being multiply players with Ellsbury and Andrus the center pieces.
  20. Those names have been mentioned before when the Sox and Rangers have been talking about trades. I don't know if I'd do a straight up trade. It would have to involve more players to equalize the value.
  21. $pankees are looking old with a lot of $$$$ invested in players that were hurt or did not produce during the playoffs. The Daily News had several articles on this subject in today's paper. They have 12 players who played significant roles this season that are 35 or older. That is a major problem.
  22. We need to say NO to this Swisher thing. The guy can't hit in the clutch and his stats are helped out during the regular season by having so many bats around him and hitting at Yankee Stadium. Drew is staying with the A's, they just traded Pennigton away. Lind is a 1B-DH kind of a player, and he is not the player coming back to us. I love Youk to death, but that ship has sailed and his body is breaking down and he isn't the hitter the Sox need in the middle of the lineup. I do believe the FO has the resources to make us competitive next season, but do they have the smarts?
  23. FO must have some unwritten rule that any player the Sox get as compensation must have the last name of Carpenter. This is AAA player at best. Overall, the Sox don't give away any of their future and have a manager under contract for 2013. Just remember when Tito became the new manager before 2004 he had a losing record as manager with the Phillies.
  24. Also, if Adam Lind is the player coming back (managers can't get traded even up for a player) then that is an interesting player for the Sox. Even if the Sox don't plan on keeping him he becomes another trading chip. If true this move for Farrell can turn out positive. The Sox have a manager in place (one that seems to have the respect of the vets) before the end of October and didn't have to give away any parts of the future.
  25. With both the Sox and the Yanks having a lot of questions unanswered going into 2013 it should be a really interesting HOT STOVE this off season. The WS can't get over fast enough so the interesting off season can get started.
