    I agree. The D-Backs are going to ask for too much for a player that has not lived up to his potential.

    I love Pedria, but the way he plays the game all out he has had to deal with injuries the past few seasons. I don't see Pedria changing the way he plays so he might not last to far into his 30s. With that said he might not have enough numbers to put him in the HOF.

    You get the felling that the FO is using this Napoli mess as a distraction for the fan base to cover up that the SP is still looking a little weak. Because you know as sone as this Napoli contract is straightened out then the focus goes back on the SP. It does sound like this thing is coming to a head though. Hopefully, next week the Napoli mess is done.

    The new news on Napoli is the Sox trying to make it a one year deal with an option for a second based on ABs. Does Napoli have any other options, but to take the Sox deal. You would think if someone else was going to jump in they would have aleady done so. If he does take the deal is he coming to ST pissed off that the Sox FO messed with him. Between the hip thing and this mess that has been going on for weeks the Sox have to walk away from this thing. Maybe BC is keeping it on table as leverage for a trade with another team for a 1B (Morse).

    I agree not much wiigle room left with the 2013 payroll. Any team trading for Ellsbury is going to want to extend his contract before agreeing to take him in a trade. An you know Borus is not going to let that happen. If a team does take him with extending him then the return the Sox get isn't going to be that great. So if Ellsbury has a good year he walks and will be in high demand. It will be tough for the Sox to get fair value with any trade of Ellsbury.

    Well if Swisher puts up numbers like he did in NY with a weaker lineup around him in Cleveland, then me and many GMs in baseball will be proven wrong and I will be the first to admit it.

    If you look at the payroll (If Napoli and his $13 million finally signs) for 2013 and you include the arbitation raises the Sox are not going to invest to much more for 2013. I can see the depth signings happening, but major $$$$ being added at this point, don't think its in the FO's plan.

    Hopefully, Kalish is finally healthy. If he continues to struggle with health issues then he may lose his chance to make it in Boston. Just like Iglesias is running out of time, I feel Kalish could be in that same boat. I always saw him as a Trot Nixon type of a player. Won't hurt you with the bat, has a good glove, and will play hard every day. At some point a player has to prove they can stay healthy and be productive. I think his time is running out. If he doesn't have a good spring I can see him being passed by Brentz on the depth chart.

    The fact that teams weren't willing to lose that draft pick proves that they questioned his ability to put up the numbers away from NY and that lineup. If teams really felt that the numbers he put up in NY could put up anywhere then more teams would have been after him. Come on a switch hitter that can play 1B and the OF (Though not to well). You don't think more teams would have jumped at the chance to get him. There is nothing wrong with Cleveland, but if it wasn't for Minnesota they would my pick to finish last in the Central in 2013.

    If you don't include injuries into the mix then baseball's long 162 game season seperates the good from the bad teams in baseball. Teams weak spots are exposed (Sox starting pitching in 2012) over the course of the season.

    That is why he was in such high demand on the FA market? For him to end up in Cleveland means that a lot of teams thought he was a product of NY and their stacked lineup.

    Unless there is a major trade before spring training the Sox starting pitching is here. The Sox go into the spring with Lester, Buchholtz, Dempster, Lackey and Doubront penciled in as their rotation. They have Morales and Aceves on the 40 man in case of injuries. If this rotation craps out and the Sox explode then you will start seeing the Websters and Dela Rosas as the Sox will look toward 2014 and beyond. For the Sox to be better and compete in 2013 then we need to hope that more of the ifs turn out positively then negatively. That in its self is a big IF!

    I do believe that watching a game at Fenway is on a lot of bucket lists for baseball fans around the world. Just think of all of the baseball history that has happened there.

    If the bullpen lives up to its potential then 6 innings and 3 ER from the starters will add up to a lot of wins. If the starters can consistently get the Sox into the 7th inning then Sox bullpen won't be over used and I think it has a chance to be really good. With that said there are still a lot of ifs. If the starters can do that. If the bullpen does pitch to their potential.

    He currently is the only 1B on the 40 man roster. I said it before and I'll say it again Gomez is a depth player at AAA who can fill in for injuries. This Napoli thing is puzzling, and the Sox don't want to give up the draft pick by signing LaRoche. I hope the 2013 1B is not on the roster right now.

    I agree with the idea behind the 2013 set up of Ellsbury and Drew holding spots that could be filled by JBJ and Bogaerts in 2014. The same can be said about Dempster and Lackey holding spots for Webster, Barnes, and De La Roza. As far as a Stanton trade, a lot of the younger players mentioned above would be going to Miami. How much of the system are you willing to give up to get Stanton?

    If the Napoli signing craps out, and it takes another month for this to happen then you could be going into spring training with M Gomez as your first baseman. That would be another huge question that the Sox would have. Gomez is a adventure at 1B, and how would he hit in Boston over a full season? He was signed by the Sox as a depth player and I'm not sold on him as the every day 1B.

    I don't think the Sox go after Lohse or Marcum unless a trade involving another starter happens. Both of them are not depth pitchers and would be targeted to start the season in the rotation. The only FA that the Sox will go after now is someone that will start the season in AAA like Cook did last year. If the season turns into a bridge year you could see Webster or De La Rosa some time in 2013. I think if all are healthy the Sox rotation to start 2013 is: Lester Buchholtz Dempster Doubrount Lackey That is a rotation with a whole lot of questions.

    Remember these short term deals this off season allow the Sox to continue to bring their youth along slowly. They might have given some of these guys big $$$$, but they kept the years short. Most of youth are targeted to join the show in 2013 or 2014. The hope is most of them reach their potential and the Sox will have a contending team for years. The FO then can target FA who fill holes that the system could not. A successful system also allows for trades for key pieces.

    Day 27 of the Napoli thing. This is getting old real fast. The time this thing is settled the Sox could still be without a 1B. They need production from that position (power).

    If the Sox get innings from their starters the bullpen could be good. If the bullpen is not over used early on it has a chance to be a strength for them. If the starters consistenly don't go deep into the game then the bullpen will be over used and it will explode like it did last year. Once again the 2013 season rest in the arms of the SPs. I like the potential of the pen.

    Thank you Cleveland for signing Swisher. If Victorino hits for average in the long run the Sox will be alright in RF. His defense in the OF is way better then Swisher. He is a top of the order guy who can get on base, steal them, and score runs. You lose some power, but I think the D will make up for a lot of that.

    Sox will only compete in the AL East if they get consistent SP in 2013. Lester and Buchholtz have to be top of the rotation starters that are more consistent. Doubront has to make the next step, and Lackey needs to be the Lackey of the Angel years. An Dempster needs to eat innings and have success in the AL. There are a lot of ifs here . . . but the Sox will only be as good as these guys.

    As of today, M Gomez is the only 1B on the 40 man roster. The whole Napoli thing is a problem for the Sox. The team remains in limbo at 1B as this thing drags on. The longer they wait to make a decision on this the less options they have. LaRoche's name came up again, he is a solid Defensive 1B but there is the whole draft pick thing to think of. Are there any other 1B out there to trade for? We do have exter RP and C to trade if that could bring back a 1B.
