  1. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ $pankee way to build a team. Carma would allow ARod to get a ruling that would lesson his suspension to 50 games and he returns at some point in the 2014 season.
  2. Their SP sucks and they can only improve it by signing FAs because they have nothing in value to trade for any front line pitching.
  3. ESPN is reporting Ellsbury pulled a Damon and signed with the $pankees for Crawford $$$$. Unless the $panks are full of #@it that would mean that Cano is done in NY. I wouldn't put it pass them that their reaction to a Sox championship is to try to buy another one for themselves.
  4. This is the new norm for the Sox. High $$$$ for low years, and when the kids are ready plug them in. I'm okay with this deal. Both A.J. and Ross are better handling a staff then Salty and I think they will put up numbers north of what Salty did in 2013.
  5. This is so not a Cardinal move. I thought they would go after Drew before Perralta. Perralta brings so much baggage with him and it looks like they over paid to get him.
  6. For most teams Cano would be an upgrade at 2B, but the $$$$ and years he is asking for eliminates most of those teams. $pankees know this and are allowing Cano to try to create his own market. I think they know he wants to stay and he will end up back with them. Ellsbury makes no cense for them because they already have Gardner in CF.
  7. Amen! That luxury tax pledge was a bunch of BS! I thought the $pankees had high minor league catching prospects. I guess that too was a bunch of BS. I never saw a team that so over rated their prospects. 5/85 to a 30 year old catcher who is coming off a season in which he was hurt. If healthy it is a huge upgrade at the catcher position. If last years injury is the start of a catcher breaking down then this will be another contract that the $panks will be wishing they didn't have in a couple of seasons.
  8. Do the Sox extend Lester this off season or do they wait? I think the FO extends Lester and he leads the staff for another five years.
  9. Reds didn't get a lot of offence from Hanigan last year. Though it would be an upgrade with the D, I think this is a Plan C in case the catching market dries up quickly. As soon as McCann signs the rest of the FA catchers will quickly follow and if the Sox can't grab someone then Hanigan would become an option.
  10. You don't see where the Sox see Carp is an option to play 1B full time. I could see if some team over paid for Nap and he walked where the Sox might platoon Carp with a right handed 1B like a Hart. The Sox got so much production out of the LF platoon I could see a Plan B platoon being an option at 1B. Still think Plan A is resigning Nap.
  11. Fielder trade is a positive for the Sox. It makes one less team that would be after Nap. Is not hearing anything a good thing or a bad thing? Naps solid D makes the strikeouts easier to deal with so I can't see why the Sox would shut the door. Unless the years he is asking for is out of the Sox way of doing things now. Right handed power is in short supply and Naps bat would be missed.
  12. Kemp has a lot of $$$$$ left for six more seasons. I can't see the Sox getting involved in this unless the Dodgers eat a lot of salary. If they were going to invest that much in a CF why not just keep Ellsbury. The Sox are just kicking tires here. Still see them signing a right handed CF with a solid glove to platoon with JBJ.
  13. The $pankees would love this if the Sox did this. Why wouldn't the Sox FO take another run at it? The Sox will continue to operate like they did last season.
  14. Has been a really slow start to the hot stove. I think most fans would love to have Ellsbury back, but we all know the chance of that is very slim. Unless everyone has misread the market Ellsbury will not be back in Boston.
  15. Hart is an Arizona guy. From what I have read I don't think he wants to play on the east coast. His right handed power would be interesting in Fenway. How is his D and does he strike out as much as Nap?
  16. $310 million is a joke! Cano will stay with the $pankees because no one else is going to pay him anything close to what he is asking for. I hope they do give him a ten year contract which turn into another Arod contract.
  17. I have heard that the Sox have a multi-year offer to Nap, and he has said he wants to see what is out there. The Sox in turn have quickly become interested in Carlos Beltron. A Sox signing of him would end Naps stay in Boston. It is amusing to see both sides find a way to use signing elsewhere, or signing someone else against each other.
  18. With the SP depth the Sox currently have I can't see them bidding for Tanaka. After the Sox signed Dice-K they had 100 million invested in him. Can't see them doing that again.
  19. His low cost and versatility will keep him in Boston. If JBJ works out and Nap comes back then Nava again platoons in LF with Gomes . If Nap leaves Nava could play 1B and the Sox could get a corner OF bat. Beltron rumors have been out the pass few days. Could be the FO letting Nap know that they are looking elsewhere. Because if Beltron signs then Nap is done in Boston.
  20. Nava's versatility and low cost makes him very important to the Sox. Can play LF, RF and 1B and switch hits so I don't see the Sox moving him.
  21. I'm prepared that Ellsbury is leaving, and would be surprised if he comes back. He has been on two championship teams and now will probably looking for the biggest pay day possible. If Seattle is the front runner then they also have an added plus that Ellsbury is from Oregon. I think JBJ will be given every opportunity to win the CF position. Defensively he is on par with Ellsbury, but he isn't a lead off hitter with tons of speed.
  22. Read something today with Pedrioa saying he wanted to talk to Ellsbury when he gets back to Arizona. I got the idea from the article that Ellsbury likes his situation in Boston and the players he was playing with. It would have to take a hometown discount and its a long shot, but Ellsbury coming back is not off the table. Granted it is probably less then 5% chance, but who knows stranger things have happened.
  23. With the possible loss of Ellsbury, Victorino's role with the Sox may become even larger. At worst he is your RF in April, or he could be in center if JBJ still is not ready or if the Sox make a play for a big corner outfielder bat.
  24. What? I still don't understanding NL fans wanting to see a pitcher bat and strikeout 9 out of ten times. How many pitchers get hurt either hitting or running the bases? Just adopt the DH and get with the times.
  25. Sox biggest needs with their everyday players is at 1B and at catcher. Unless some blows him away with a crazy offer I think Napoli will be back. Because of his power numbers from the right side and his ability to play 1B effectively I think the Sox are comfortable bringing him back. Catching is a little different. The two names I'm hearing are McCann and Ruiz. McCann / Ross worked well together in Atlanta and McCann would be an upgrade defensively. Ruiz would be a bridge signing until the Sox think either Vazquez or Swihart are ready for the show. Salty is still a long shot, but I think he gets a bigger offer else where then the Sox are willing to pay. Depth starting pitchers and bullpen arms are also needed.
