  1. The production from the outfield is a major problem. The only power is Gomes and he only plays against lefties. We have gotten little to nothing from Bradley, Sizemore, Nava and Victorino. I don't see anything in the system that will help. A power bat that plays the outfield is a major need, but what is available?
  2. It was the pitching that kept the Sox in it before the losing streak started. Now besides not hitting, they have stopped pitching. The bullpen that was very good early has been over used and now is starting to get pounded. The current state of the Sox is looking pretty bleak. I guess it starts with the starting pitching. They need to give the Sox length so the bullpen is not over taxed. This will return the Sox to the team we saw in the beginning of the season. The hitting, or I should say the lack of hitting, is a major concern. You have older players hurt or under performing, and younger players that are struggling.
  3. I think last year was the best you are going to see from Victorino. This is what happens to players that speed is what makes them productive players. The 39 million invested in him did bring a title. I like Victorino, but I think he is done.
  4. Not for anything, but Bogaerts has started hitting the ball better after the Sox resigned Drew.
  5. Amen !!!! They can not take last years title away. Last year is an example when everything went right, and this year is in reverse following "Murphy's Law". Because of last year this is a little easier to take. The one ray of hope is that the Jays are the only team in the AL East playing good ball and not bitten by the injury bug. If things continue to go south start playing the kids.
  6. Just think of the reaction if we hadn't won a championship in 86 years. Too early to be in PANIC MODE. I usually use July 4th as the date to judge what is working and what is not. Need to relax or you won't make it to September. It is a long season and as.
  7. A Nava not hitting is worthless to the Sox. JBJ not hitting still gives you above defense in CF. I still think that once it warms up a lot of the Sox hitters will pick it up. JBJ included. He is not going to put up Ellsbury numbers this season, or maybe ever, but he still can hit enough to keep his glove on the field.
  8. The $panks paid all of that $$$$$ for Ellsbury and are still only one game better then the Sox as of May 17. An as good of a start that Ellsbury has had he still can't pitch. The $panks have one starter that they know will give them a good outing every time out. The baseball season is so long that to be going into panic mode in May is just crazy. Lets see where things are at on July the 4th.
  9. As long as the GB column doesn't go north of 5 games it is to early to panic. The AL East will be won by the team that can get their starting pitching right the quickest. The Sox have health on their side, as both the Rays and $panks starting pitching has been hit hard by injuries. An I would take the Sox rotation over the O's and the Jays any day.
  10. As of May 17th the Sox are only 2 and a half games out of first in the AL East. Both the Rays and $panks have huge holes in their starting rotations and the O's and Jays SP is questionable. The Sox are one of three teams that have used only three starters so far this season. Both Buchholtz and Doubrount have looked okay at times. So I say stand pat, and as the weather improves as May turns to June I think the SP will be okay.
  11. The Sox paid good $$$$$ for 2011 and 2012 getting nothing in return. Lackey should honor his contract.
  12. Didn't Farrell win a championship his first year? He may have input in the decision making, but BC makes the final decisions. It is only the middle of May, the Sox are only 2 and a half out, the weather has been terrible this spring for the hitters, and looking what has happened to starting pitchers in the AL East I think it is way to early to panic. If the Sox SP stays healthy and the bats warm up as the weather gets better the Sox will be fine.
  13. I hope this isn't the reason the Sox don't sign Lester. Owens is the real deal, but he is still a few years away. Lester is an ace for the next few seasons.
  14. If the $pankees really thought this guy was the answer they would not have signed McCann long term. They would have done what the Sox did and sign a vet short term to hold the place. They will build him up to be the best thing since sliced cheese and trade him for other pieces like they did "Fat Boy" (Montero).
  15. A lot of Tommy John's happening this spring. That is why you can never have enough pitching.
  16. Holt has looked pretty good. If you could trust him to back up at short you would have to think about keeping him over Herrera. WMB has to come back and supply some power to a lineup that has lacked it. If he is not hitting homers he is no good to us.
  17. He is one of many who is not hitting. The pitching has been pretty good, so that has to count for something. As far as walks, not going to see many. It is so opposite the Sox approach.
  18. Through the first few weeks of the season all of the AL East teams are all bunched up. It will come down to pitching and who can stay the healthiest.
  19. Sox will get another shot at him this week. This time without the "dirt".
  20. Mujica has looked better the last couple of appearances. Badenhop is a different story. I would rather see Workman. For the most part the bullpen has been really good.
  21. Victorino and WMB should be back this week so decisions are going to have to be made. I hope the cold bats are because of the cold weather because no one is hitting. The Sox record is what it is because of the pitching. Anyone with options should be worried.
  22. Anyone who doesn't see that the $pankees have no budget isn't realistic. They talked a good game this off season, but when all was said and done we saw what they did with their spending like a drunk sailor.
  23. Crazy ending last night! The Sox got lucky as a usually good O's D threw the game away. Should be an emotional day at Fenway today.
  24. It was funny watching the $pankees dodge the questions or make up some story ... "it was dirt" was a good one. Now if Pineda gets rocked his next start then the questions will be asked. If your doing, please make an attempt to cover it up. The guy was a mess with the stuff and then by the 5th it was gone.
  25. Lester has looked good so far and I think the Sox will get the contract done before he cab test the market.
