  1. I agree. The teams are pretty close and the difference could come down to which team gets more out of their returning starter.
  2. The Sox have used the bench and platoon in other areas to get some production from everyone on the roster. Enough players have been hot at the same time that it has off set those players who were struggling at the time. Once again it has been a team effort is why the Sox are second in the league in runs scored.
  3. Berry is a depth OF with some speed that got some playing time last season with the Tigers. Can't see him getting any quality time and may be used as a pitch runner.
  4. If the season ended today and the Sox needed a fourth SP in the playoffs he would be the guy. Dempster is struggling right now and no one knows about Buchholtz.
  5. Even when Bogaerts had some pitches in AB where he was fooled he came back and made some solid comtact. Some young players you can see they are over matched by big league pitching, and he hasn't so far. Middlebrooks has to be willing to take the walks. He still is swinging at to many pitches that are not strikes. Major league pitchers aren't stupid, if they can get someone out with out throwing strikes they will.
  6. If the Sox want to play in October it will because of their SP. The Rays SP isn't going anywhere so the Sox have to match it.
  7. I'll take the April and May Lester in September and October. It may be needed more then we think because we don't know what we will get out of Buchholtz. I think much like the Sox winning has been a team effort the improved SP is a team effort with both the coaching staff and Salty getting some of the credit. Plus the pitchers still have to throw the ball so a lot is on them. I'll take the SP we got on the west coast trip for the rest of the season.
  8. The Sox started their 16 road games out of 19 games up one game on the Rays and finished it one game up on the Rays. They finish the season with 18 of their 30 games at home. They have more off days then the teams behind them which will allow them to set up their rotation to better matchup who they are playing. The SP on the west coast trip pitched much better and that is going to be needed because you know the Rays pitching is not going away.
  9. The kid doesn't look lost with the bat and had some nice swings last night including two hits. He made all of the plays at SS and looks like he belongs. Being the Sunday night ESPN game you know all eyes in baseball were on him and he performed like he belongs.
  10. Do the Sox play him today in game two of the Dodger series? After last nights offensive failure the Sox now face back to back lefties and is Bogaerts going to play against either?
  11. An the streak of not winning two in a role continues. Last nights loss to LA was hard to watch from the offensive perspective. The Sox wasted another great outing by Lackey. They get two lefties the last two games of the series. Teams are going to start lining up as many lefties against the Sox that they can. The team needs to pick it a little and start stringing some Ws together.
  12. Some of these players (A-Fraud and Braun) have been babied their whole lives and think they can do as they please because they are above everything. The cheating is one thing, but to lie about it is what really sticks people the wrong way. Thus A-Fraud and Braun catch more of the heat.
  13. I think the biggest additions for AL East teams will be players coming back from injuries. It might come down to who gets more out of their returning SP. The Sox and Buchholtz, or the Rays and Moore.
  14. Yaz is the reason I am a Sox fan. I didn't see Williams play, but grew up watching Yaz. Happy b-day!
  15. No way the Braves come out of the NL. It is amazing that they are where they are if you look at their team. Players they have lost to injuries, or players that have not produced. The Dodgers and their SP come out of the NL. Love to see the Sox (The heart says), but the head says Tigers to come out of the AL.
  16. I don't know if you can point to just one player as the MVP. You can make a case for a handful of Sox, but they really have won as a team. That is probably why they have been winning, because they don't have a single player carrying them and it has been a team effort.
  17. Amen! Thoughts of the $pankees somehow making the playoffs, or even worse winning the division is something that causes me to lose sleep. Can't thing of a worse thing to have happen to end the 2013 baseball season.
  18. Guys the Sox won big yesterday! Middlebrooks was a big part of that. We should be happy!
  19. No Nap has not been worth $13 million this year. There is nothing worse then an unproductive AB that ends in a K. He will have the Sox single season strikeout record if he continues at the pace he is on. I have no confidence in him to come through in a big spot.
  20. We catch a break by not having to face Greike or Kershaw, or a hot Dodger team not getting to hit against a struggling Dempster. If the Sox can return home from the west coast having gone 4-2 that would be great. Tuesday's lost though is still stinging.
  21. No that was just Manny being Manny. With A-Fraud its that he continued to do them after he came out after the first time and said he only did it for a few years and judge him moving forward. Well moving forward it looks like he continued with them. That is him looking at everyone in the eye and lying. I don't trust a word that comes out of his mouth. My take on it is if his lips are moving he is lying.
  22. If he was closer to 30 HRs you could live with the Ks. Now he is dealing with this foot problem, and the hip is still a concern long term. The one year contract is going to work out great for the Sox. Nap won't return in 2014 unless he has a September like he had in April and May. If he does come back it will be another one year contract the Sox will offer.
  23. With a little luck Bogaerts gets his first hit and RBI, and maybe changes the outcome of the game. If the pitcher doesn't deflect the ball its a hit and possibly allows the Sox a big inning early.
  24. Does it bother anyone that the $panks are only 6 and a half games out? They play the Sox 7 more times, Rays 6 and the O's the 7. Mix in 7 more games with the Jays, 3 with the wrong colored Sox, 3 with the Giants, and finish the year with 3 with the Astros. If they win every series with the teams ahead of them (which they can), and destroy the bottom feeders left on their schedule they can still win the East. If they do win every series with the teams above them, and the rest of their schedule they will pound they could still win around 92-94 games which could be enough to win the east. I'm concerned.
  25. Creating depth at a position in the minors allows you make trades to fill wholes that you may have. At the time Marrero ceiling might have looked high and being a plus defensive SS raises his value as well. If Bogaerts takes off he becomes a trading chip like Iggy was. If Bogaerts out grows the position then you have another solid defensive SS.
